drank Melange du Cap by Le Palais des Thes

forgot that i really like this one. Cacao and vanilla…so nommy in a herbal and very little rooibos taste, and certainly none of that woodsy stuff. I need to pull this out more often especially in winter because of that creamy taste.

drank Mojito Marmalade by Tea Forte
7171 tasting notes

i think i’ve finally come to the conclusion that i really only seem to like mojitos in alcohol form, while on vacation. lol any other time of year or form, they just aren’t my thing. Maybe it’s because the mint to “whatever other flavour” just never seems as balanced as in a real drink. at least now i know. no more mojito teas.

Nicole

Yeah, I generally like alcohol better than alcohol flavored things. :)

Sil

hahahahaha

mrmopar

I agree with Nicole..

OMGsrsly

I’m scared of the mint in this one. The tea is sitting on the counter, taunting me.

Sil

there’s a lot of mint

Fjellrev

Ha! I never had the actual drink before, but I did recently finish a mojito-flavoured lip balm and really enjoyed it.

drank Apricot Amaretto by Tea Forte
7171 tasting notes

another from omgsrsly. this one’s not bad but it’s not knock your socks off, which is i think where i landed the last time i tried a few of these tea forte things. It’s amaretto and there’s a slight apricot note in here which makes it more enjoyable for me, but not enough to want to have this around all the time. A nice tea to try and then move on:)

the rest of this is off to omgsrsly because she asked for it bwahahahaha. in more ways than one ;) i added some cream and maple syrup to this cup and it made it a more palatable cup of tea but still just a smokey tea. The chestnuts aren’t anywhere to be found and i did pull in a well balanced teaspoon of things. oh well. a decent cup, just not what i wanted it to be.

OMGsrsly

Uhh, thanks? I think? Here’s hoping it’s not loads, or else Bear With Me and CrowKettle will get to share in the love as well. :D

Sil

naw was a small sample pack

OMGsrsly

:) Phew.

drank Kiwi Lime Ginger by Tea Forte
7171 tasting notes

this one smells like ass. Honestly. Dry it was sort of ginger, lime…not so much kiwi….steeped, i was getting this weird tangy smell with an underlying ginger taste..sort of. Not a fan of this one. I tried to drink it but ended up having to not finish the cup because it was just wrong. :) sorry omgsrsly! haha

__Morgana__

Smells like ass. LOL. If the asses around me smelled like ginger and lime that would be an improvement. ;-)

Sil

hahahahahaha

OMGsrsly

LOL. Oh well.

Fjellrev

Haha oh god.

BAD dexter. Ok good, wonderful, awesome, amazing dexter really, but crap. Now i understand the love. She sent me a sample of this one, and i’ve been saving it for a day when i really wanted a delicious tea that i was 90% sure wouldn’t let me down. So today…i pulled this one out. the dry leaf smells wonderful and let me tell you, drinking this one. YUM! I know it’s an oolong, but it’s totally worth it. Cherry, Chocolate, coffee latte like delicious drink of yum. Of course now i want to place an order. bah! thanks dex!! hahaha i think.

drank Maple Cheesecake Ti Kwan Yin by 52teas
7171 tasting notes

i finished this one and now i’m sad. But i needed it today – super migraine courtesy of that time of the month while working from home = need some good tea. while i have no issues with 52 teas, through no fault of their own, the dollar has tanked and shipping sucks, so this is one of the few teas i can see myself reordering someday if things work out. Most of the other teas are good, but not worthy enough of dealing with shitty currency exchanges :( maybe this year i could win the lottery. anyway…this tea – sublime. I adore the maple cheesecake oolongyness of this tea. Even the second steeps, is still pretty tasty. win!

Evol Ving Ness

Today the dollar was 69 cents. A very sad day for our cross-border tea lustings.

Sil

we haven’t crossed the 70 cent mark yet – not sure where you saw 69 cents. lowest it’s been in the month is 71 cents

Sil

BOC…er bank of canada has said the following: we would look for the Canadian dollar to only bottom out in late spring at around the 70 cent level, before making a mild recovery to around 73 cents by late-2016. And, that’s assuming oil prices steady and edge higher in the second half of next year.

Evol Ving Ness

I was about to go through a purchase in US funds on paypal and that is the exchange rate that was being given today on card purchases.
.

Evol Ving Ness

I did not end up making that purchase.

Sil

aaaah paypal – that makes sense, their rates are typically not in our favor.

Sil

on the upside, more incentive NOT to buy tea? :)

Evol Ving Ness

Or teaware.

Evol Ving Ness

No.more. tea.shopping. This month has already been outrageous.

tigress_al

:(. So sad and not cool

OMGsrsly

You can be on the not-buying-tea-savings-plan as well then, Evol. :) It was indeed terrible through Paypal. :/

Evol Ving Ness

I am on the not-buying-tea-savings-plan, with the exception of my subscriptions. I predict that my savings will finance a trip to allow the Canadian dollar to suffer pitted against the Euro.

Evol Ving Ness

Oh wait—that sounds like a tea-buying trip.

OMGsrsly

I think what I’ll do, instead of pressing that “buy” button on the carts, is transfer the money into savings and see what kind of trouble I can get myself into. :D

OMGsrsly

Lol. But it’ll be a fancy tea buying trip. And imagine what you’ll be able to eat and drink while you’re there. :D

Sil

mmm like my trip to paris…. so nice

Evol Ving Ness

We have just managed to turn the weak Canadian dollar and the poor and sad state of cross-border tea shopping into a bright and happy story. Hurray!

drank Combray by August Uncommon Tea
7171 tasting notes

I picked this one up even though it’s a green tea because i love vanilla teas, and i love cardamom. August uncommon has fantastic customer service. I highly recommend folks give them a shot. My only beef? Give me actual steeping paramters for how YOU think the tea tastes best. Nearly all their teas have the water temp but then they all say 5 mins “longer is stronger” Well yes, i know this. Do they really mean ALL their teas should be steeped at 5 mins? I suspect not, but that’s the way it seems, though the way it’s worded makes me think not. Especially since all the teas have it, and there are no steeping paramters on the website except to say: “Once the water has been poured over the tea, cover the mug, and set a timer for 5 minutes. A shorter infusion will result in milder tea and a longer infusion leads to stronger tea. Use a timer so that your tea will always taste the way you like it.”

anyway, i digress…. I steeped this one for 2.5 mins and i think it wasn’t long enough. I can taste the vanilla and the cardamom but it’s not coming through very well. Still a smooth blend and i can taste the potential, but this wasn’t quite it. I’ll have to play with it a bit more before rating it.

dexter sent this one to me and i am a fan. as this tea cools it builds in the malty, chocolate flavour that i am a fan of. I haven’t actually had a tea this intense in a while for both those flavour profiles at the same time so this has been a rare treat. Glad i have another cup of this to enjoy later on. Maybe for new year’s :)

Christina / BooksandTea

I remember her talking about this one. I haven’t ordered from Han Xiang myself though, since they don’t do smaller sizes.

Sil

Just need to do joint orders…once everyone gets to where they want to be ordering again hahaha

Sil

must just be you. shows 11.82 to me

yyz

I’m just being an enabler but the Tea is currently 50% off on the mobile application ( New Years day)

Dexter

It’s showing 6.26 on the regular site again too (says 2 days left) :))

Sil

hahahaha it totally is now… 5.91. However… it’s 2016 and i am officially on hiatus while my other half and i try to recoup funds he spent last year on things. sigh and i haven’t weighed my cupboard yet…

Sil

@dex – so weird we both see different prices…

Dexter

It’s 5.91 + 0.36 shipping = 6.26

Sil

hahaha so it is. i’m a little tired. Our hike also made sarah tired, not just rental dog.

Sil

so tired she referred to herself as herself and not sil. hahaha

Dexter

Pssst – Sil you might want to take a look at the “take it away” thread….

dexter sent this one to me – always interesting to try new things from companies. This one reminds me of an oolong. Little semi rolled balls and that familiar roasted oolongy taste. However, in this form, it’s not bad. the tea is smooth and tasty. Nothing i need to keep in my cupboard but i’ll enjoy my next cup when i have it :)

Dexter

Agreed – a little oolong ish – I found it to be really fruity if steeped western with a lower temp, quite a bit of leaf and a fairly long steep. Didn’t really love it at first but it’s growing on me. :))

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
