sample sipdown! I know Roswell Strange will be happy that someone else is joining her tasting notes on this one. The other half of this sample will be off to Cavocorax as well so that she can try it out.

I have to say that on the whole i am really enjoying River Teas. I think they have a good thing going here, and their service and packaging are excellent. So far, their teas are falling on the upper average side for me, which means that they will likely find themselves in and out of my cupboard :) None of the teas that i’ve tried yet from them have been BAD, which is great in my books :)

This tea? Well i have to say that i was intrigued by the peppercorns in this blend. It’s not often you see that in a rooibos blend. This tea needs more cherry! I brewed this for about 5 mins, which brought out the hibiscus and rooibos taste a little much. I think 4 mins would be the sweet spot here. Because there seems to be so much going on in some of the blends from RiverTea, i think that it might be tough to get everything in to the sample sizes in the right quantity. I’d be interested in trying a normal order of this one out in the future. overall though, i think this one shows promise :) it’s cherry and tart and tasty.

Yay more RiverTea tasting notes! I’m crossing my fingers that my order comes today.

Sil

heh there will be more…oh so many more.

Another sample sipdown since the other half of this one is going to visit Cavocorax :) This is a pretty tasty black tea, and it makes me excited to try the assam from River Tea. There’s no bitterness in this cup, and while there isn’t any malt or sweetness either, it’s a good solid cup of black tea. I enjoyed it a lot this evening – it’s a good decent cup!

drank Granny's Cake by RiverTea

I had this again tonight since it’s an easy sipdown AND i want to go through my cupboard yet again this weekend to organise and clean things up. I desperately need to get things back in order since i have a ton of new teas from Dec/January that need other things to clear out so i can drink them haha.

Second time around this is a more tasty tea. I got more of the spicy flavour this time around, though i think i’ve figured out that it’s the chocolate i don’t like so much. I still feel there’s too much going on in this cup for me to REALLY enjoy it, but it’s a much tastier cup this time :)

Fjellrev

I’ve been doing the same, going through and seeing what’s older so I can work on those.

This sounds like a black-based version of Tea Desire’s Granny’s Spice Cake or whatever.

Terri HarpLady

I really need to go through my tea collection, drink up all the older/smaller quantities, & start really narrowing down my collection.

Sil

Yeah Terri….I haven’t had a weekend to do any of that so I did it last night… Still kind of a mess so I need to set aside some things to drink over the week or something

My other morning tea, which i sorely needed given how insane my week has been. I just need a day to breath and that just doesn’t seem to be happening lately. I also decided that i’m just going to drink and enjoy my teas and wave goodbye when favourites leave haha. :) Still one of my fav chocolate teas. Dark chocolate mousse indulgence.

BrewTEAlly Sweet

Drool drool and drool some more!
Wow how have I never heard of this before

Sil

haha

BrewTEAlly Sweet

Where did you find this????

Sil

i did a swap with shmiracles, and then made my parents go get me another tin when they were in france haha

BrewTEAlly Sweet

Aw shoot! Worlds away!

Terri HarpLady

Yeah, if they go to france again, I want a tin too :)

MissB

I so wish there was an easier/cheaper way to get these to us tea fiends. There’s a French bakery here that will order it for me, however they want $35/100g.

OMGsrsly

Oh, is that the patisserie downtown? Have you been in, or just contacted them?

MissB

I’ve been in it, and they’ve got a lot of Mariage Frères in tins for sale, as well as just to drink in-store for a cup. They’ll order it in whenever they order another batch of tea, it just may take a while is all.

BrewTEAlly Sweet

Omg you’ve found a loophole!!!! :D

OMGsrsly

Ooo. I need to visit, maybe get some tea there. :) OH! Maybe this weekend since I’m downtown a lot. I could go for a walk/tea break.

MissB

They have a lot in stock, or did when I was there about a month ago. Only sell it in full tins though, or as a cup of hot tea to take with you. Ah, the chai that I can’t spell, Marco Polo, something Rouge all come to mind. All $35/100g. I’m blanking out on the name, but you know where I mean, right? There are way too many French patisseries in downtown Vancouver. This one is big, gorgeous, open a bit later, and just a few blocks up from Burrard Station.

BrewTEAlly Sweet

Take me to Vancouver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMGsrsly

I think I know which one. Across from the art gallery? Faubourg or something? $35/100g is super steep for the basics, tho. Wow.

MissB

Faubourg, that’s it! Yep, which is why I balked at grabbing anything when they told me the prices.

mmmm tasty, delicious morning tea. I had this again this morning because i can stop hoarding it as i have another couple ounces from black friday. :) i quite enjoy having this one.

Courtney

I finished off my package last week, and even with another on the way, I crave it.

Sil

heh i think i don’t quite crave it all the time because i have so many TTC teas which are similar in profile.

Courtney

I think it’s partly not having it at my disposal haha.

My RiverTea order arrived today. SUPER fun to get in the mail! Grand total is 176 now before the weekend….

I needed to try at least one tonight so i opted for this one, mostly because it was in the database already haha. I have to say first that all the teas smell delicious…no really SOOO good. I’m especially looking forward to the orange puerh i picked up cause man that one is like fresh naval oranges or something. just wow.

So this tea. I don’t like it. I don’t dislike it either though. To me, this tea is trying to be too much. It’s not strongly chocolatey, it’s not really spicy, it’s sweet but not overly. In the grand scheme of things, this was a tea i drank without paying much attention to it because it was neither a BAD tasting tea, nor a Great tasting tea. I’m going to try this one again and see how it goes. I have a sneaking suspicion that i’m going to much prefer Rivertea’s puerh/Fruit and Rooibos blends..but that’s just my guess :) Either way still a really positive experience with this company :)

Roswell Strange

Could you taste the anise?

Sil

not really, but i’m not sure my 2 tsps had much of it in there heh

TheTeaFairy

Yay! Finally :-)
Aww, Love your new cute little face!!

Roswell Strange

I went snooping in your cupboard to see what you ended up getting as samples (because you told me which you got in larger amounts) – yay for someone else trying Pret a Portea! Also, bad idea because I saw tons of things I want to try D:

Sil

Haha sharing is caring happy to share my teas :)

MissB

Terri HarpLady

Did you sip it up through your trunk???

Terri HarpLady

Sil

drank Laoshan Village Chai by Verdant Tea

my other morning tea, though i had a bit of honey and milk in it today since sometimes you just have to do that, with chai :) still a delicious cup of yum, though i prefer the version without goji berries!

keychange

A chai with goji berries…I’ve never heard of that before!

Sil

verdant changes their formulation for winter/summer. it’s still tasty but not the original i fell in love with

keychange

Oh that’s right-I forgot they had summer and winter blends!

Fjellrev

Oh yeah, I forgot they did that with this one. Mine had the goji in it, and I personally loved it. Didn’t really notice them amongst all the spice flavours!

Morning tea! i figured that i should really get around to trying the rest of my F&M teas since my parents are headed to london in a few weeks and are already asking me what i’d like them to bring back. Not that i need more tea but it’s an “easy” solution to things.

I sort of cheated with this one today and added a splash of maple syrup..so i’ll have to rate this later when i have it straight but so far, this is a decent cup that i quite enjoyed!

Yvonne

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, Sil :)
If you want tea London’s definitely the place to go – I’d ask for tons if I were you!

keychange

Omg, so jealous that you have tea transporters from London! Please let me know if you’d like me to likewise “help you” take advantage of your parents! ;) ;)

Sil

keychange – is there something you’re after that you really want to try?
Yvonne – i actually really want to go to FRANCE (not that i haven’t already been multiple times, but not since i fell in love with tea) London is for Dr who and the BBC hahaha

keychange

London is also a great place for MF, although didn’t you say there’s mf in Canada also? I’m going to break into my mf teas very soon, and then I’m thinking I might want to do a little restockeroo of some of them. And I’m in the market to try a few f and m teas also…how posh LOL

MissB

I’ve told my eldest that one day we will sit in some lovely high end tea shoppe in France, sipping tea, just because we can. (And then I’ll buy up so much tea I’ll have to ship it back home separately, however that’s a whole other conversation!)

Sil

Keychange – i’m happy to do a swap with you sometime so you can try some of the french teas in my cupboard. :)

MissB…me! me! take me!

Yvonne

I could probably fit in some luggage if you ever decided to take me along :D This way we can all go and save on plane tickets!

Sil

haha i dunno how you’d get back though yvonne…the second suitcase will be full of tea :)

keychange

How thoughtful, Sil! I actually have a few French teas, thanks to justjames, although I’m not sure how easily they can be found in London—so far I’ve tried a few from mf and df. Would they be able to get me some mf? Will you be getting some mf also? and we can totally swap. There’s nothing in my cupboard you can’t have :D

I keep forgetting this is a herbal and that’s half of why i picked up 4oz of this…because i love it and it’s missing the tea! :) I had a giant mug of this to make up for neglecting it while taking a wonderful bath tonight. While this IS similar in profile to vanilla citrus spice in some ways, it’s also got a bit of a kick to it that makes it different enough to make me happy and tasty enough to satisfy me..or something like that. Maybe the woozle ate my thought.

Yvonne

I’m determined to get my hands on this one one day.

Sil

Good luck :)

Fjellrev

Verdant is determined to get your order, Yvonne. :D

Cavocorax

Hey Yvonne – you can log into Verdant’s website and sign up to their loyalty program. If you keep at it long enough you can earn a $10 coupon. It’s well worth it, and for us Canadians, it makes a Verdant order much easier to justify. Also, at $40 they have free shipping to Canada.

Yvonne

Ahhhh thank you so much Cavo! ♥
And Verdant will eventually get my order, they can count on that!

Courtney

They upped it to $49! I just placed an order last week.

MissB

They did up it, I also ordered. :$ I’m excited to get my first Verdant order.. I think my only complaint is that I see all you folks trying amazing teas from them that I’d love to try, however many are sold out or unavailable. Boo.

Cavocorax

Yeah. I hear you MissB! I’m sitting on my coupon!
That sucks about the shipping, but I guess it makes sense. $50 is more the standard.

Terri HarpLady

I’ll have to get some more of this on my next Verdant order

OMGsrsly

What?! That really sucks. I had $40 to do an order with them, $50 is pushing it. I’ll have to check what’s in stock Monday, and maybe get CrowKettle some stuff too.

Courtney

I was a little thrown too OMGsrsly. It doesn’t seem like a lot but I also had $40 planned and I wasn’t keen to spend that extra bit.

keychange

Just popping into say that tea while taking a bath sounds like a vacation in your bathroom. Perfect!

Sil

missb – is there anything in my cupboard that they don’t carry anymore that you want to try? if so, let me know.

KEYCHANGE! where you been! :)

Cavocorax

Taking a tea bath, obviously. A very LONG bath. With several cups of tea consumed

Sil

hahahaha

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
