5068 Tasting Notes

I know i’ve had this one before, but apparently my tasting note is gone. Another tea i was drinking in an effort to try and drink my reserve club teas that I’ve been hoarding. While i don’t generally want anything to do with green oolongs, this is a relatively decent green oolong. It’s lacking that weird oolongy taste that i hate and there’s a sweetness to this that is quite delicious!

In the first steepings there were those floral notes…waiting to come out, which they did more so in the later steepings. It’s those later steepings i really didn’t like. too floral and vegetal for my tastes. If every steep tasted like the first one, i’d be golden haha. As such, I think i will pass the rest of this on to a tea friend to try out :) especially since there aren’t very many reviews of this one on steepster

Sipdown! had a few cups of this tonight while i bounce between doing work and trying to plan the wedding and get my life organised for this coming week haha. I can dig this tea…even if it is an oolong and not my usual cup of tea. Not sad to see if go though :) i’d drink this one over a lot of other oolongs though heh

sipdown! (back to 160) This is not the tea for me. It’s not a bad little puerh, but there’s a peat sort of taste hanging about this one that i don’t much enjoy. I like the format of this one, and the scent is really nice. As i sip it, i find that the initial sips are tasty, but it’s the after taste that i’m not a fan of. While not quite the mini tucho for me, i wouldn’t turn it down if it was offered to me in the future. There’s no fishiness to this one either, for those that are worried about that :)

Stephanie

I am thinking about trying some of their flavored mini-touchas

Sil

i’ll keep an eye out for your tasting notes. :) I think on the whole i prefer garet for all my puerh, though there are a few loose puerhs that teavivre has that are really nice. Mandala has made me spoiled though. Teavivre is good for my black teas though :)

Stephanie

I agree about Mandala’s puerhs being SO GOOD! :D

Yep…14g of this a year is about all i need before i get tired of it haha. Sipdown! I need to get at least 2 more in tonight because i bought tea today and i’m desperately trying to make sure i at least stay at 160. I’ve been so good and this weekend i was so bad. Only because it’s not often you can get “fancypants” tea to quote a friend haha. This one is a decent enough blend, but as i usually find with David’s tea…lacking in the tea department and not as flavourful as i want it to be!

I had this again today – western Style for a couple of steepings. I’ll likely save the the last bit that i have to try it gonfu style. Is it tasty? For sure! Is it much different from the mainstream version? Not that my tastebuds seem to think. :) Love it though!

thanks for sharing this one terri! In keeping with my attempt to get through my BBB Box teas and my verdant reserve teas, I took this one shopping with me. It was pretty tasty even in a travel mug! Looking forward to being able to try this one out with my gaiwan, maybe next weekend.

Terri HarpLady

Yay! You like it!! :)

Trying to get through at least tasting the last round of teas from our BBBBox before the next round gets here. I brewed this western style because i can’t manage two gonfu at once haha. This is a really juicy tea..there’s a hint of a taste that i’m not familiar with coming through…sort of yunnan ish but not quite. Over all this is really tasty, though i for sure need to try this gong fu style next!

My dearest tea sister terri sent this sample to me and since I have been bad and bought a bit of tea, i decided i needed a sipdown today. Since my non puerhs pretty much all have several cups to sip them down (or giant Sil sized cups) I opted to enjoy this one this morning while i get ready to go run some errands before coming back home to try and work.

Only on the first couple of steepings but this is a delicious puerh. It won’t be my all time favourite from Garret but it’s not fishy, it’s slightly earthy but not overwhelmingly so. I don’t get the cinnamon that terri did but like i said..initial steepings. more to come :)

Edit: later steepings are deeeelicious! though i cheated after a few and just went for a long 5 min steep heh

Garret

I really enjoy this ripe tea. Went through a phase where I was worried that I was going to drink it all myself and not have any to sell :)

But now I am just pretty much obsessed with the Noble Mark ripe and have been for a year now! First tea of the day 95% of the time.

Thanks for writing this up!!

And thanks for being an all around great person, too!!

Sil

haha your welcome. You and your wonderful teas make it easy though. Hands down my favourite puerhs so far on my tea journey, short though it has been so far..

Tea Sipper

Yeah, I have to work on some sipdowns, since I just bought MORE tea. ack.

Sil

haha yeah so did i tea sipper…so did i. The downside to finding out Fauchon, MF and Fortnum & Mason are around in canada because of the holidays!

Since i’m trying to get through my verdant reserve teas, I knew i had to open this one to try it finally. I’ve been holding off because LB is one of my favourite teas and i wanted to have this to savor. Turns out? This tastes very similar to my memory of LB. I may have to do a comparison in the near future, because i don’t see them as being much different. Still delicious to drink but nothing incredible or over the top.

drank Wedding Impérial by Mariage Frères

I had this one tonight – we went out to visit friends who had a baby about a month ago. He is adorable! I have pretty much not accomplished any sipdowns this weekend, which is a sad, sad, thing since i know i’ll be picking up a couple teas at winners/holt’s tomorrow simply because the opportunity to pick up french teas are far and few between here in canada. While that means an increase in cupboard size, i’ve been pretty good about not buying teas recently. I still love this tea, and i’m sure that once it’s gone, i’ll find some way of restocking it :)

cteresa

If you get the chance, try Mariage Freres´ American breakfast – it hits a few of the same spots Wedding Imperial does (chocolatey! malty! caramelly) but is IMO even better and far easier to brew right.

JustJames

i’ve added this one to my list….. maybe dependent on marks after exams, assuming i don’t behave to badly in between, lol.

Sil

Cteresa – hmmm I don’t think that one is at holts but I’ll keep it in mind. I was going to pick up French breakfast to try

cteresa

French Breakfast is on my shopping list. When I was fussing around all the World Breakfast samples, it was the the only real contender to my choice – second pick for sure (Parisian Breakfast was not for me). But American Breakfast was even more wow-ish chocolatey. I am quite in love with it, and sort of replaced definetely Wedding Imperial in my affections!

Sil

well if i can find a way to get american breakfast in canada i will do so! otherwise it’ll go on my shopping list for someday when i get to go to france…

Terri HarpLady

I’m really enjoying this conversation! As a lover of breakfast blends (when they are good, anyway), I want to try all of these, when I get the chance.

Terri HarpLady

Sil, although I can’t go with you in body, I’ll be with you in spirit when you go shopping today, :)
If you should see a tin of Pleine Lune, please grab it for me! I recall that I really enjoyed that one!

Sil

Will do Terri!

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
