5761 Tasting Notes
I hate overnight testing. It took my forever to fall asleep earlier, and then my other halfs stupid friend started texting him just after i fell asleep..which wouldn’t normally be a problem but his phone sound was on so i got woken up. Just waiting for the go ahead so that i can test and then head back to bed for a few more hours of sleep. One of these weekends i’ll get to actually sleep in both days.
Made a cup of this because my throat wanted tea but i wanted something light that i didn’t have to think to about while brewing. Love the creamy good ness of this one even after several bags :)
Another tea from my recent RiverTea order. I have to say, this one is quite nice. The coconut flavouring isn’t overwhelming – instead it’s mostly a juicy sort of “tropical” tasting tea. The rooibos used in this blend isn’t that overly strong woodsy sort of rooibos so that makes me a happy camper. Overall, this is pretty tasty, though next time i think i want to try it as a cold brew!
On a side note, i wish the bags RiverTeas came in were a bit thicker. I’ve had to double bag the flavoured teas i received from them because the smell was seeping out of the bag and the cardboard “tin.”
Yay for getting used to the new Steepster changes. I think overall, with a few tweaks here and there, the improvements will be well worth the short term pain. It also means i’m likely to become OCD about adding flavours and such to the teas that i log lol Ah well, it’s a good thing, right? :) Still enjoy this one, though i’m fine with only drinking it once a year for a few cups. That’s all i need of this one in the long term.
Watching fringe, eating butter tarts from the tea festival, trying out a few more of my Dr. Who fan blends so i know what i like and don’t. This one is a bit better than the other two, which is giving me confidence in my order of how i figured i’d like these blends heh. So far, i’ve been pretty spot on in terms of things. Again, not a fan of adagio’s black base but this is a decent enough cinnamon tea with a few other things going on. It’s not IN YOUR FACE cinnamon like i think it was david’s tea – glitter n’ gold…this one is much more subdued and you can still taste the tea.
also…OMG AAAH NEW TEA FORMAT FOR LOGGING JUST MADE MY HEAD EXPLODE WHEN I GOT TO THE DASHBOARD…. i can’t comment on my own tasting note anymore so i’m editing…
Another from the Doctor Who sampler. This one also has blergamot in it, but it’s presence is subdued by the fruity bits in here that are going on. It makes it a much easier cup to drink for sure. I think this one might be one of those teas that is best brewed cold (or hot then cooled) with a little sweetner added to it to soften the tartness from the fruity bits :)
River Song, you suck. Blergamot! yuck. I figured i would start with the teas in my pack that i knew i would be less enthusiastic about, but still hopeful. This is blergamot.
I’m cheating and removing this from my cupboard because i know i won’t drink the rest of it. Instead i’ll parcel it out to share with swap friends who want to try it or (looking at cavocorax), want more :)
also in terms of flavour…this really just tastes like an EG to me..that’s maybe just a little creamier? maybe?
finally home and organised from the tea festival today. I have to say, i think i did pretty good today. I may have spent 50$ but only 20 of that way on tea..and that got me a lot of tea :) I also picked up some tarts, some jam, bought lunch etc.. and got to sample a ton of stuff, which of course i have zero recollection of. :) this was the tea i brought with me to the festival to make sure i had something to drink besides all the samples they had :)
it’s January 31. My goal at the end of December was to get to 150 by the end of this month. I was also trying to stick to a budget of 50$. I am currently sitting at 172 teas, having spent basically 175$.
I think for February, i’m going to aim for 150 again, and though i’ve budgeted 50$, i suspect my spending will be closer to 100$.
I’m off to the Toronto Tea Festival tomorrow, so there will be more added to my stash, but it’ll hopefully just be smaller sizes. Tonight, I’ve emptied my entire cupboard, puerh and all on to the dining room table so that i can reorganise my cupboard when i get home tomorrow. it’s much smaller looking than it was a year ago, so i can live with that. :)
sample sipdown! I know Roswell Strange will be happy that someone else is joining her tasting notes on this one. The other half of this sample will be off to Cavocorax as well so that she can try it out.
I have to say that on the whole i am really enjoying River Teas. I think they have a good thing going here, and their service and packaging are excellent. So far, their teas are falling on the upper average side for me, which means that they will likely find themselves in and out of my cupboard :) None of the teas that i’ve tried yet from them have been BAD, which is great in my books :)
This tea? Well i have to say that i was intrigued by the peppercorns in this blend. It’s not often you see that in a rooibos blend. This tea needs more cherry! I brewed this for about 5 mins, which brought out the hibiscus and rooibos taste a little much. I think 4 mins would be the sweet spot here. Because there seems to be so much going on in some of the blends from RiverTea, i think that it might be tough to get everything in to the sample sizes in the right quantity. I’d be interested in trying a normal order of this one out in the future. overall though, i think this one shows promise :) it’s cherry and tart and tasty.
