drank Vanilla Honeybush by Steam Tea House

This is more like a softer version of honeybush…..there is a distinct vanilla taste exactly, but it’s not insanely honeybush like either. Appreciate the sample omgsrsly. I find that the steam teas are an interesting group of teas. Ive been enjoying the few that we’re sent my way :)

thanks kittenna!

Well it appears that this is a tea i can get behind from culinary teas. It still wouldn’t be a staple, but at least i can get behind this one more than any of the others. There’s a creamy, buttery taste to this one and the base isn’t as harsh as the other teas i tried. It smells wonderful as well, just like a delicious caramel. hmmmm

thanks kittenna!

another sample from kittenna! this one i had better luck with. it smells a little like those strawberry shortcake dolls…slightly artificial but not bad smelling. the taste is more like a green strawberry tea and not so very “shortcake-y” However, in comparison to the last two disasters for me, this is loads better. Still though, the base has a bitterness to it that i really don’t care for. oh well, better to sample than have purchased :)

sample from kittenna I’m pretty sure i dislike the base of culinary teas or something. This was another one that i couldn’t handle. the taste that was left in my mouth after i spit it out was decent, but the first impression left much to be desired. I’m steeping these fairly lightly too, so not too sure what’s going on. I appreciate the taste though Kittenna!

Yeah, I totally agree. When I first joined Steepster I placed a huge order of flavored teas with CT all excited and was mostly disappointed. I think IIRC Ceylon tends to be the base for most of her flavored blends, and it was precisely the thing I wasn’t digging about any of them. It’s like the flavor applied over the tea base doesn’t “stick” well with the tea.

I did find much later that all of the flavored teas I tried from CT were salvageable cold steeped, esp. Peaches and Cream.

drank Maple Tea by Culinary Teas

thanks kittenna this is pretty nasty. While i realise i accidentally let this cool down, i pretty much took a sip and spat it out. Not sure if it’s contaminated or something but it was bitter, astringent and not delicious at all :( ah well, can’t win them all!

I love the honesty. “Thanks” followed by " it’s nasty!"

Sil

Lol well I appreciate her giving me a try :) This is just icky though.

Sipdown! (see terri, i AM trying even though i don’t normally achieve sipdowns through my work teas…) The last lonely cup of this one will also be going to a random swap partner to try out. I prefer the assams to this one, but the one reason i had wanted to try this was because i had tried a similar tea via butiki. Now, i can’t recall how that one tasted but impressions are good.
While it was nice to have this one, i feel like i’m better off not keeping it as a staple in my cupboard because there are others i prefer more. This is a tasty treat that i like, but it’s more of a rotate in from time to time sort of tea :)

You’re only 5 teas more than me now!

Sil

….until I pick up my order tomorrow at the post office. I’m really 20 more than you. Might catch up for Friday!

Terri HarpLady

Yeah, but when I get my box from you I’ll be totally screwed! LOL

Sil

naw it’s not nearly as full of teas as the one you sent lol

sipdown! I tucked this into my travel mug today because it was very nearly a sipdown AND i wanted something lighter and refreshing today. Lighter while still clearly being a black tea. I have enough left for a cup, but i’m choosing to pass that on to a random tea swapping friend to share the Taiwan Tea Crafts love. :) This has been a delicious time drinking this one and #154…so not sure which i love more :)

TastyBrew

I haven’t had any of their teas. Are they worth trying out?

Sil

Yes. But I can send you a sample of 1-2 to try! I’ll put them in the box before I send it this weekend.

TastyBrew

Sweet! Thanks!!!

Terri HarpLady

They are very nice. I’m also really on the fence about 147 & 154…I feel that if we really place that order (lol) I want both.

Sip down……this, As a latte is perfect for me. It’s not too sweet and it’s got that delicious creaminess from the milk, with the hazelnut and vanilla flavour mixing in. So good. I just can’t drink it straight or it’s too sweet for me. Latte style and I’m so good. Thanks cavocorax

sigh Apparently i didn’t add this one to my cupboard, though i swear i did. So um yay sipdown..but this does nothing for my cupboard count. So Terri, if i haven’t missed anything else in my cupboard i’m at 271…except tomorrow i’ll be adding 15? teas to my cupboard sigh so you might as well consider me as being at 285ish lol I really should do a swap to help get some of the larger quantities of tea that i have out of my cupboard BUT that also means a bunch of samples will come in…which is both good and bad and good and bad lol

oh first world problems, how i hate you haha

This tea has a nasty gross smell that i cannot handle. But i managed a couple sips of the tea and i actually love it a lot. But i can’t get past the smell of the oiliness of the tea. I figured out, by reading the comments that it’s likely something to do with the coconut because it smelled familiar, even though i don’t like it.

I might try cold brewing a little of it just to see if that produces a brew that i can tolerate the smell on haha. Oh well, still nice to have tried this :) thanks terri!

Dinosara

My dissertation gets turned in tomorrow… wanna swap? Of course that will blow up my cupboard, which I’ve worked so hard on, haha.

Sil

i was planning on hitting the post office this weekend so sure lol

Dinosara

Haha ok I will PM you.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
