drank Orchard Spice by Verdant Tea
4861 tasting notes

SIPDOWN! I’m working on putting a box together for a tea friend down under, so I’ve been saving my verdant samples to keep them fresh as long as possible. Today i’m starting to put the box together so i can finally work on these samples – saving the other half for the tea swap! The instructions call for a tablespon per 8oz so i took lot less and steeped it in less water as well.

I want to try this again at a later date as i think this will be a nice fall tea. There’s a hint of spice in this one that is comforting this cooler morning. I’m not picking up the white tea notes, but i generally have trouble with those. I’m going to hold off rating this for when i get a chance to try a bit more, but this is for sure a tea i’d try again from verdant!

Just ordered this from verdant and am pretty excited!

Cavocorax

I wanted to grab a sample of this with my last order, but had to restrain myself. It sounds good.

Sil

OMGsrsly

drank Kenyan Black by Justea

Justea sent these samples out to help out with part of their crowdfunding. They’re doing great things, so take a moment to check out their website! I opted to try this one first, though they were kind enough to send 2 others to me. Before trying their flavoured teas, i wanted to take a moment to enjot the straight black that they sent, since i believe it’s the base of their teas.

This is not a malty tea like others i’ve tried, but there is a good deal of body here to hold my attention. There is some astringency to this, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for a morning cup of tea.

I drink my teas straight, but i can see this being a great morning tea with a little milk and sugar. Overall, a great first impression from Justea!

SIPDOWN! (221) I have really enjoyed this offering from our BBB Box. Not only is it great to try new teas but also new companies. This has been a wonderful tea, that has me wanting to try other offerings from this company. I’m sure i’ll get around to it once i get my cupboard more in control lol

SIPDOWN! Current cupboard at 223 (222 with this one down). Working from home today so i am going to aim for 215 today so that maybe by the weekend i can hit 200 again before “someone” shares a few teas with me, as she is likely to do.

I have enjoyed this offering from bayswater. I’m slightly torn as i’m not sure that i love it enough to keep it stocked on a permanent basis but i think i would order this occasionally just to have from time to time. I have a few other teas from the same company so we’ll see how they stack up. I like to support canadian companies, so any that i can add to my list is nice. Overall though, this has a really pleasant base and the flavouring is really creamy and nice.

another backlog from last night – had another bit of this one, though it wasnt as tasty as the first time. That might be because i left it a little long. Luckily i have a bit more to land on a final decision on this one :)

drank Peppermint Patty by Butiki Teas

Backlog from last night. I keep forgetting about this tea in the evening as i took my part of the joint order and put it in another bag. I had this last night as one of my two last teas before bed. This might be one of my favourite mint chocolate blends – especially since it’s not in the usual black base.

Oooh! getting a sample of this one and am really excited. I’m glad it makes a good before-bed tea.

Sil

it’s good.. not sure if you use brew baskets or what, but i usually dunk them a couple times before pulling them out to make sure the chocolate bits and what not are all melted and moving about

keychange

Yup, brewing baskets all the way. Good iea.

My matcha was composed of the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Distinctive
This was one of the flavours I picked up as part of a buy 3, get one free pack. I’ve tried the raspberry truffle from red leaf before but i really didn’t like it. I had hoped it was the chocolate flavouring in that one that set me off, so i decided to give this one a shot since i do love raspberries!
I have to say, when opening this up, it smelled so much like that weird artificial smelling raspberry flavour. I sighed a little and hoped for the best. Since this was raspberry & cream, i figured that i’d start this off as a hot latte.
First sip? It’s a little bitter and not quite as raspberry like as I want it to be. So for the first time ever, i added a tiny bit of sugar to my matcha latte. WOAH! did that pop everything into place! It brought out the raspberry taste and seemed to let it blend in better with the milk. I’ll have to remember that for some of my other lattes as i make them this fall. Lots of flavours to try from redleaf! Given my experiences with raspberry trufle – i highly recommend trying this one first, and then if you really need that chocolate taste, add some chocolate matcha or something to this on it’s own…or maybe a chocolate milk latte….hmmm now there’s a thought!

drank Mint Chocolate Matcha by Red Leaf Tea

Backlogging review on Red Leaf’s matcha – Mint Chocolate
My matcha was composed of the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Distinctive
Those who know me, know that i am a HUGE fan of mint chocolate. Jr. Mints are my movie treat of choice in terms of chocolate. This was one of the flavours i picked up as part of a buy 3, get one free pack. As a result, i opted for the distinctive level of flavouring as i’ve had some bad luck with robust on fruit flavours that i bought with it.
This is a great matcha for lattes! I really like how the chocolate and mint are blended together. I wasn’t as much a fan of the belgian chocolate matcha, so i was happy to find that the chocolate flavouring in this one is fairly smooth and lacks that weird artificial, fake chocolate sort of taste. I don’t know that i would drink this without milk, as i find the creaminess in the milk helps to really bring out the minty chocolate goodness. My only complaint? This is a matcha i want to drink in Robust flavouring! I found that every time i had it, i wanted just a bit more intense flavouring. So this WILL likely be a re-order but in Robust flavouring! Thanks Red leaf!

drank White Strawberry Sassafras by Tealux

great Canadian travelling tea box

This one smelled too much like rootbeer not to try it. Verdict? This is a pretty decent cup of rootbeer tasting tea. What i’m not really getting, and maybe it’s the sample i pulled out, is the strawberry. Overall not a bad tasting tea but i’m knocking a bit off the rating for not having much in the way of strawberry.

Dexter

I love how we all experience teas differently. I thought this had lots of strawberry. :))

Sil

haha yeah

Great Canadian Traveling Tea Box

um..no. I tried this hoping for something a little different…and i suppose that’s what i got. I can taste the basil in this one, but it really isn’t the juicy sort of fruity tea i was hoping for.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
