mmmmm now this? this is an oolong i can get behind. This is dark and beautiful and there’s a woody, almost smokey but not quite flavour going on here. Yep, this is not your every day oolong, this is one for me! :)
1768 Tasting Notes
i needed a break from flavoured teas so i pulled out a couple of oolongs that i’d ordered (willingly) from Stacy. This is the first one. Although it’s a darker oolong it has taste that i associate with the oolongs that i don’t like. it’s less present in this tea than in others so i’m not overly frowning but i feel like this could be so much better without taste lol. Still though, not a bad little oolong and i’ll likey do a couple of resteeps just to see if the flavour changes enough for me to really enjoy it.
Another one from Ysaurella though I’ll likely need to review this again soon since i managed to drink the entire cup before i thought about taking notes :) There is a bit of spiciness to this one that is quite enjoyable. Mixed with the citrus it is a smooth and delicious flavour. I really liked how smooth this one was. Looking forward to trying the tea i picked up from B&B even more now.
mmmm… I received this one in a swap with Ysaurella I am really enjoying this one. I’m not sure if it’s the sample that i received but i’m not getting as much of the cherry notes as others. I really like the smoothness of this tea – the base blends really nicely with the flavours. i really like the spices in this tea. Now that I’ve been sitting with this tea for a bit, the cherry comes out at the end of the sip in the after taste. it lingers in my mouth, blending with the spices in sips that come after.
Thank you so much for this Ysaurella
Thank you Courtney! for this surprise sample :) This is a really nice blend – it’s also a sipdown because i’m going to pass along the rest to my friend who’s joining us over the weekend. She’s new to this whole tea thing so i’m trying to give her a bag full of 1-2 cup samples so that she can learn more about what she likes/dislikes.
As for me? I am really enjoying this one. I may toss the leaves into a cold brew to see how this tastes cold. It might be one of the few david’s teas i think about stocking in the summer.
Thanks again Courtney!
Thanks to the lovely Courtney for this sample. Yet another David’s tea that I haven’t tried so it was happy to receive it from her as a surprise :) once i read the ingredients I was a little wary but i’ll drink nearly anythin…at least once :) Not crazy about this one, though that’s to bee expected as floral teas and I are very hit and miss. Still though, not nearly as bad as i thought it might end up being. The floral is just a bit too much for me, even if there’s a peach? after taste that’s happening that i do enjoy.
Thank you so much for this new tea experience courtney!
Work from home day! It may not amount to much in the way of sipdowns but it will let me sit and enjoy my new samples from steepster folks! Looking forward to it. Figured that I’d start the day out with a solid black that I really enjoy.
soooooo tired. I’m about ready for bed but wait, whta’s that? oh yes i’m on another meeting with China that makes it once again clear that they’re lost without me there. sigh not sure what the hell i’m going to do to move this project forward but let me tell you 10-midnight are NOT my best hours. nope. not at all.
Lala sent this my way in our swap. I don’t recall whether or not I asked for this one, but i’m always happy to try new teas! I was a little worried when i read that this had lavender in it, but surprisingly it’s not OMG IN YOUR FACE lavender. So that’s good. :) it wouldn’t be my first choice in a tea but overall it’s not too shabby.
Thanks Lala!
SIPDOWN!
FML i’m working from home tomorrow just so i can have a tea drinking day before the weekend. lol yes… i cheat! :) Really love this tea and will totally need to pick more up once i drink a few more.
I tried this as a cold brew because of the smell. It smells like it would be a divine cold brew! Instead what i got was a fantastic smelling amazing citrusy that tastes a little like your average every day tea….cold. ah well it’s not bad, but man it smells amazing in comparison to the actual brew.
sipdown! This has been in my cupboard for a bit and i keep forgetting about it, mostly because i’m not sure how i feel about “instant tea.” Overall though, this isn’t half bad. It reminds me of how i used to think red rose orange pekoe tasted with milk. Only now that tastes horrible and this doesn’t. if that makes any sense. lol Thanks to Azzrian for sending this to me waaaay back when i was just starting out with this whole tea thing lol
mmmm not too shabby a blend though i think i still prefer the majesteas version. Still haven’t bothered with a side by side comparison yet. someday soon though as this one is almost all done. almost. not quite. darn it!
SIPDOWN! however…back up to 168! haha Thanks to a couple swaps arriving today i am now back up to trying to get back to 150. Not that i mind terribly since i am looking forward to my swap teas but i was sooooo close haha.
Still enjoying this one, though i think i prefer florence
SIPDOWN! Oh yeah baby! 155 and it’s only tuesday! I still have until saturday to see if i can hustle my ass down to 150 hahaha. I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve to help with this so here’s hoping. Of course i’m also contemplating another order too but you know..what the hell haha
love this one, now i just need to decide whether i want to keep it around all year or savour it and bring it back to my cupboard in the fall. decisions, decisions…
oh man soooo tired today. I think i’m going to be gulping down even more tea and possibly a coffee if this keeps up. I can’t seem to get going today and the day is nearly half over! I’m glad to be having some of this today since i have 2 packages of this in my cupboard. It’s for sure a tea that I can see drinking throughout the year as it’s not really “eggnog” to me, rather it’s just a delicious creamy tea. It’s a lighter tea as well, as is cantaloupe and cream but still a delicious “desserty” tea that I can get behind.
oh man… i haven’t had this one in a long time! Going through some of my new-er teas today only because i really want to place another order with Stacy but can’t do that until i get through some of the new-er teas i ordered from her recently. Not that i’ve done that today since i’ve had both teas that i’m drinking this morning already. haha
I do enjoy this one, though i have to say premium tawainese assam and laoshan black are still more favourite of mine than this one. but i’d never turn this one down :)
So i figured i’d try this again tonight since it’s cold and dreary outside AND i wanted something that was non caffeinated. While this isn’t a terrible blend overall, it’s just not what i want in a chai. Maybe it’s te anise but there’s something in this one that just makes me want to sneeze (or the black pepper?) I tried to add a bit of milk to it to see if that changed how i felt about it and it turns out…not so much.
Another sample from the lovely lala :) not sure what drove me to ask for a coconut sample but I did! And it’s not too shabby. I couldn’t a lot of this but a cup or two every other month would be acceptable lol
Thanks again lala
SIPDOWN!
And i totally deserve brownie points from Kittenna for this once because…the lovely lala sent me enough of a sample for 2 cups of this delight and i’m choosing to have a “normal person cup” so that I can tuck away the other cup for kittenna to try because it was also on her list of teas to order to try! This likely needs to be brewed as a green, or closer to it than a black. i think at the higher temps it would just become bitter and you’d miss out on the delightful fruity flavours.
I would like to try this iced some time because i think it would be a fantastic iced brew. The smell of this one just makes me happy. I don’t get much coconut, rather the guava is like HEEEEYO! lookit me!
Thank you again Lala for this one!
oh yeah baby! Sipdown! come to mama 155, come to mama! lol I steeped this one a little too long today but that made the re-steep much more pleasant. This is a pretty decent plummy tea, though the spice is slightly overwhelming in the first steep. This might be the one tea i’ve had where i generally prefer the second steep.
grrrr i’m watching you steepster! Stop eating my tasting notes!
long story short mid morning tea, delicious, need to order more but drinking this as i’m sooooo close to a sipdown! haha
is it? could it be? yes it is! SIPDOWN! The best part of this sipdown? Nothing says GOOD MORNING! like a cup of this malty, chocolate delicious black tea with a homemade mocha brownie first thing in the morning. Oh yea ladies and germs, i’m breaking all the rule and eating a delicious delicious brownie. with tea. and said brownie has coffee in it. and it’s sooooooo gooooooodd with this particular tea. HAPPY MORNING!
mmmmmmm I haven’t had this in a while so i sunck some from my friends stash since she’s given me the go ahead to start drinking it since she doesn’t anticipate getting to it before it goes bad. I’ve forgotten how sweet this one is. It’s still delicious and wonderful but man it’s sweet lol.
Sip down! Put your mind to something and you can do it! Managed to get myself to under 160 this weekend so now I just have to aim for 9 more before Saturday :) I think I can I think I can! Hahaha even if I don’t manage I’m still pretty proud of myself for getting it this low after how high it was when I got back from china. And! For the most part I haven’t made too many orders in march, which was also a mini goal of mine.
Anyway this was a really interesting blend to have and it was nice to try out the Amoda tea box. I may just need to pick it up again now that my cupboard is a little more manageable.
