Another one from tonight…while testing. i guess…i’m underwhelmed but the most recent blends. I’m glad February is on it’s way so that maybe that will redeem things a little. This one was alright, but even though it’s up on the website, it won’t make the cut for me this time…not like the others that i’ve picked up once they were made official blends. :)

I’ve never found Tulsi to be particularly desirable. I tried to like it, but it just doesn’t do anything for me.

totally ok with the tulsi in this one…not a fan of the oolong :)sadly my tasting note on this is lacking because work distracted me with testing. both the teas i was drinking ended up cooling off a bunch, so i didn’t get to drink them when i really wanted to. I’m sending the rest of this to terri because she likes oolongs and’cause she likes to try out the blends boxes as well.

Terri HarpLady

I like the name of this one! I’ll look forward to trying it, even with the Tulsi in it. :)
Regarding Tulsi, I don’t hate it, it’s just boring. Hopefully the Oolong will help it out. What else is in this?

Sil

uh…stuff… :)

sipdown 11! booyah!

testing for work AGAIn tonight, and i’ll be doing it AGAIN next week and the week after. best part about tonight’s testing was that it was smooth sailing until i got on the line to start my testing. The whole thing broke within 30 secs lol soooo good times hahaha

Since i’ve been falling asleep for most of today, i’m trying to get a few more teas in since i’m nearing the end of my easily sipdownable teas. This is only mildy concerning since i’m contemplating 3 orders that would add about 15 more teas to my cupboard haha

I picked this one up in my last order and it’s “alright” now that i’m a little more experienced in the puerh department, and have a better sense of what i like/don’t like..this is on the end of average for me. It’s not bad, but it’s pretty much just an ok time. IE. if i need 50 cents more in an order, this will be going in! haha

…and that would be sipdown 10.

I’m not sure what to make of this one. It’s sort of like an average cup of stuff going on. It doesn’t knock my socks off, it doesn’t wow me…but i don’t hate it. It just sort of reminds me of a bunch of the recent verdant blends. Rest of this is off to Terri so that she can try the blends as well. I just wish this had more OOMPH or something…

Hey, my son Leif bought ‘Cards Against Humanity’, & Drew, Leif, & I played it the other night. That is the most hilarious game I’ve ever played, I laughed with tears streaming down my face almost the whole time we were playing. I thought of you!

Sil

yay! glad you had fun!

I took this one out with me for a walk earlier in the afternoon for a break from the keemuns i’d been sampling. I like this one better with it’s other formulation so i’ll have to keep my eye out for Verdant to go back to the other version and pick some up for fall. Still though, the version with goji berries is about an 85 for me, so still a solid tea when looking for a little chai in my life :)

I had this in the afternoon since i REALLY need to drink up some of my smaller puerh samples instead of accumulating them all. I still think that while i could live with having most of Mandala’s puerhs in my cupboard, there are a few that i MUST have…and this isnt’ one of them. it’s delicious, but not something that i’ll be wishing for often, now that it’s gone.

The first few steeps were a middle of the road brew that was smooth and delicious, while also not being out of this world. Later steeps brought out hints of woodsy vanilla. I’ll have to see if i can cold brew the rest of this over night just to see how it fares after a number of steeps hot brewed :)

Farewell my blend, until we meet again. I think in the grand scheme of things i prefer my original blend to the final, final version but not by a lot. I am happy with the creation of this one as stacy is a masterful blender! I feel like this makes me want to come up with another sort of custom blend though… hmmmm deicions, decisions…

Sil

haha stacy was working on a caramel pear a while back

Kamyria

Uh oh… a caramel pear pecan… I don’t think I could resist.

Butiki Teas

The caramel pear was not working out, though that was because I wanted to make it a poached pear and it kept tasting like fresh pear.

Butiki Teas

Oooh, I think I just gave myself an idea of how to fix it.

Sil

um… i can take fresh pears with caramel…just saying…

Butiki Teas

Haha. Meh, fresh pears

Sil

just for that i think i should make you, make me, a fresh pear tea :P

Butiki Teas

Well, that would be on your taste buds :P

Yep….this one is my favourite of the Teavivre Keemun’s though on the flip side, runner up was the grade 2 version because of the smokier factor of it…so price wise they sort of even each other out haha. Glad i had the chance to try several cups of each and compare the versions. :)

That also gives me sipdowns 5 and 6 for today

VariaTEA

I am also at 6 sipdowns today. Yay for sipdowns!!

Sil

i figure i’ll probably hit 10 today then anything tomorrow is bonus haha

looseTman

Your highest rated TeaVivre tea. Have you had a chance to do a side-by-side comparison with their Premium Keemun Hao Ya?

Sil

I have. I prefer this one by far. I actually don’t mind grade 2 – but it’s smokier than the rest so you have to be in the mood for that, though far less smokier than say their lapsang.

This is the most second most expensive keemun in teavivres arsenal and i think it might be the one i like least. Which, of course suits me just fine lol. The aroma of this one reminds me of taiwain teas that have that “juicy” sort of aroma.

Drinking this along, side grade 2 – it’s clear that grade 2 has much more smoke than this one. I think, the level of smoke lessens as you go up the ranks. While this one isn’t bad, drinking it next to the grade 2, i prefer the grade 2 for it’s seemingly smoother brew and smokier notes. Can’t wait to compare these to what i think will be my favourite from teavivre!

What do you think is your favourite?

K S

This was my first exposure to smoke. Scared me senseless for a time. Now I love experiencing different levels and layers of smoke.

Sil

The organic superfine is likely going to be my favourite :)

looseTman

Sil,
FWIW, TeaVivre’s current prices:
– Premium Keemun Hao Ya 100g (3.5oz) = $15.90
– Organic Superfine Keemun Fragrant 100g (3.5oz) = $21.90

Sil

i see what i did there…wasn’t paying attention to 50g vs 100 :)

looseTman

Wow, I’m surprised that their Premium Keemun Hao Ya was the lowest-rated of the four TeaVivre Keemun teas you tasted. I’ve found it to be a very enjoyable breakfast tea. I’m sure the organic certification adds to the cost of this Keemun compared to the two less expensive ones that are not organic.
I’ve been following your comparison with great interest as I’m only familiar with their Premium Keemun and have wondered how these four teas compare. To date, I’ve enjoyed nearly 1,700g of it. Perhaps our different impressions are due to brewing methods? From your tasting notes It looks like you prefer 212*F and a 3-minute steep. What quantity of water and tea do you use?

looseTman

Sil,
Have you tried the following brewing parameters for Premium Keemun Hao Ya Black Tea?
8oz / 2tsp (8g) / 3 steeps: rinse,1m,2m,3m
http://www.teavivre.com/info/recommend-brewing-guide/#black

Sil

negative looseTman – i have enough issues getting around to drinking my puerhs with multiple short steeps, that when it comes to black teas i just want to be able to drink them western style with possible resteeps as long as the first. i’ll try that next time i pick up a few samples packs :)

looseTman

The above parameters are TeaVivre’s western style brewing recommendations. With 194*F and shorter steeps, you’ll notice a smoother cup. More leaf provides a richer flavor, fuller body, and 3 steeps.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
