drank Golden Orange by Tea Moments
5241 tasting notes

Received this in a swap with kittylovestea but haven’t had a chance to play with it much. I suspect that it might be a little old, hence the flavours being muted. I can see how this might be a really great black orange tea. I like that this isn’t chocolate orange :) It also smells fantastic! Thanks for sharing this one with me kitty!

drank Sweet Cinnamon Puerh by Verdant Tea
5241 tasting notes

Sample sipdown….here’s hoping i can get like 20 done today haha.

This has been an enjoyable cup to drink this morning, but nothing that I feel the need to keep in my cupboard permanently. The cinnamon blends really nicely with the mint but the mint doesn’t overpower. It hangs out in the background adding a bit of depth to the blend. I wish the puerh was a little more present but over all this wasn’t a bad little experience. I’ll stick to sichuan caravan and Laoshan chai though as blends from verdant for now heh

When you do so many sip downs, do you use a steeper of sorts or make your own baggies?

Brew baskets. Always. Regardless. I have 4? Finums, usually two the go at all times

Wow. That’s crazy! I just have the one, but I wash it out like crazy all the time!

Terri HarpLady

LOL, I have 2 finums, & a variety of other crappy baskets

don’t ask how many Kittenna has hahaha

Cavo – Upton had a great sale on them so i picked up extra. It means i can always have 2 cups of tea on the go @ home it also saves me time in the morning when i’m brewing tea for two travel mugs.
2 meds, 2 larges haha

Hahah. Well I don’t have room for that in my new kitchen! :P But I use the brew baskets for my timolino as well if I’m making tea to go. So I can make 3 teas at a time then.

Terri HarpLady

I’ve been thinking I should get both of my sons their own finnum for the Holidaze this year. That way my baskets don’t get contaminated with the flavors of their teas.

I have separate brewbaskets for that reason too terri…one for straight teas and one for flavoured. At least as far as my travel mugs go :) blue for flavoured, black for black haha

I have a steeper, 3 baskets, and 2 small tea pots. Right now I have a basket and a tea pot in the fridge for second steeps!

omg…oh yeah. I have uh cold brewing thingies too lol

Terri HarpLady

Yup…I also have 4 teapots, each with their own basket, I didn’t count those, LOL

ick. do not like. this was a free sample included in my last upton order and i am not a fan. There’s something about the balance of the spices that just doesn’t work for me. Maybe this would work better brewed in milk, but as a straight tea, i’m not a fan.

sample sipdown! grrrr terri!

This one is a teabag i’ve been wanting to try for a while now because so many people on steepster seem to be drinking it. This isn’t too bad, though i can see it being a little more creamy and delicious like with a big of milk. Though i’m too lazy to add some tonight haha. There’s a good amount of ginger and spice in this one, and as far as teabags go, not too bad.

It’s a nice cheap alternative to some of those gingerbread teas out there. I double-bag it and add milk. :P

Sample sipdown..also known as the many reason i’m going to kill terri lol

My cupboard tonight went from 205 to 273. Of that, 58 are above and beyond the teas i was expecting to receive from verdant and the BBB Box. So expect a hell of a lot of sipdowns from me in the near future as i focus on getting through the two giant ziploc bags of tea samples lol

This one had potential, but then it fell flat. There is too much rooibos taste and not enough pineapple and mango.

drank Random Steepings by Various Artists
5241 tasting notes

Tea tastings @tao leaf tea today

Jin Jun Mei – not worth the price (80$/50g) for my taste buds. I nice tea, but um..yeah no.

Ancient Tree Pu-er – not a bad little puerh but i prefer the ones from mandala that i’ve had. There was a lingering earthy taste to this one. That being said, i would drink this again for sure!

Loose Whitemoon 2010 – Reasonably nice white puerh, though nothing that made me sit up and need it in my cupboard NAO!

En shi yu lu – green tea, slightly astringent but also sweet with a flavour that reminded me of spinach.

Aijiao – oolong and not with the usual roasty type flavour that i find hard to swallow HA! This is an oolong similar to a wuyi without actually being one..so terri you might like this one!

I was looking at their site earlier and was going to order some samples. Sounds like I might wait since you weren’t blown away. I’ll save my money for Yezi :-)

I’m going to place a small order with them that i’ll likely add to our BBB Box so yes, save your money and try out a few first. I LOVE the one tea i tried today….but i’ve reviewed it before so it wasn’t in this list haha

drank Silver Needle by Tao Tea Leaf
5241 tasting notes

I think? this is one of the teas i tried today at tao’s moon cake festival tea tasting thing. On the whole, while it’s a nice silver needle, there just really isn’t much room in my cupboard for white teas unless they blow my mind. this one did not.

Another interesting tea from Taiwan tea crafts. This tea still has some of the juiciness as the others I’ve had today but much less so. Instead there’s a more….earthy? Note in here. But yet not. Something about this one leaves a hint of that sort of black base that reminds me of….Ceylon? Or not. I’m having trouble qualifying this one. Hmmmm….

mmmmm man. I really am loving these teas from taiwan tea crafts. They all seem to be of that juicy variety (the non aged, blacks anyway) which is great to have in my cupboard. While i love the malty dark teas like LB and others, sometimes it’s enjoyable to have the other variety when you need a taste of sunshine in your mouth :) This one has almost savory? notes in the background which help offset the juiciness a little while still being a fantastic cup of tea.

ok I see, TTC are juicy teas without any astringency :)

Terri HarpLady

I’ve really enjoyed them too. They all have a sweet fruitiness!

ooooeee! man this is a tasty, tasty cup of tea this morning on a VERY rainy saturday. I have a bunch of things i’m trying to accomplish today in the real world so that I can check out the moon cake tasting at tao leaf tea today.

This is a juicy, delicious tea that i’m am likely going to be ordering more of this weekend. I have a couple more to try from taiwan tea crafts and then let the orders begin!

Edit: really enjoying the resteeps of this one too, though they take on a darker vibe….as the juiciness fades to the back. Still delicious though.

see you there!! :P

Omg, there’s a moon cake tasting today? Too bad I didn’t know about it. Dayum!

Terri HarpLady

I’m jealous! I wanna go!
I did a sipdown on this tea a few days ago, just never got around to posting it. I think my most favorite of the TTC teas was Assam 154 (or one of the assams, anyway, LOL). But they were all tasty!

Nxtdoor – doh. Next time i’ll make sure to poke you and let you know. I sort of decided last minute to go.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
