4840 Tasting Notes
Thank you*nxtdoor* for sending me this sample. I’m not overly a fan of green teas but I do like fruity teas, so I was looking forward to trying this one out. Al in all not a bad fruity sencha. It’s a pretty tea to look at in leaf form and it smells lovely. I’m a fan of teh lack of floral notes in the brew as well. I think ill try cold brewing the last bit of my sample to see how that works out. I’m hoping it’ll make the fruity flavours pop a bit more.
Backlog from yesterday. For those of you not aware of the random weather going on – we had flash floods last night in toronto which meant it was a bit of crap shoot getting home luckily i had this tea with me. sooo delicious! i’m super glad that my parents were able to pick up more for me while they were in paris and thank you again ysaurella for sharing it with me so that i would know that i loved it :)
So I’m indulging a bit…I took his out of the cupboard to try this morning. It’s one of 8 teas that Terri and I shared on my half of the world. This one was picked because it smelled the least like Stacy’s mountain black that is out of stock until August.
Colour me impressed with this one! It’s a little lighter feeling than I expected, but I think that’s because I was a bit light in both my tea and my steeping time. I’m playing these ones by ear so that’s to be expected. This is not your usual malty Assam. Instead there are chocolate notes and jam?? Something fruity like in any case. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it is delicious! I’m now looking forward to trying the rest of these from Taiwan tea crafts even more!
Another Kally tea that I need to work on (let’s not talk about the 2 I have that I haven’t even tried…) tonight, I do not like this one. I’m not sure if I steeped it too long or what but its a sour unlikeable cup of tea. Ill try again tomorrow maybe, or as a cold brew and see if this is better, since I clearly didn’t mind it at one point according to my tasting note….
I realized today that even though I have some teas nearing sipdowns, I have some old-er teas that I should work on drinking or just figure out that I should pass them on ASAP. Kally teas are the oldest in my cupboard if I’m remembering right, though when I say “old” they’re still within 8 months or so. I’m working on not only reducing my cupboard size but getting down to a smaller group of teas of which I keep maybe2oz at most if I drink them weekly. That way I’m drinking them when they’re fresh and sending more time enjoying all the teas I have.
I still like this one, though it wasn’t my favourite Kally tea. It’s not a tea that ages super well, so it’s become a bit milder, which isn’t a bad tug. Over all though, still an enjoyable up of tea.
mmmmm sipping on a cup of this today after being out in the downpour. We walked to the grocery store in the rain and after getting back. this is exactly the tea i wanted. It’s not cold outside but it offered that spicey warmth to warm me up from the cool rain and coming in to dry off. I added a bit of milk and sweetner to this and it is delicious! i like the slightly citrus edge that is in this chai without being overpowering. For sure one of top chai teas.
I pulled this one out of the cupboard today to give it another try. I have to say, i’m not sure if it’s the age or just what i was in the mood for but it’s tastier than i remember it being. I think i’d like to try this cold at some point as well so see how it fares as an iced tea since i do like fruity iced teas. Even though there are a few flowers in here, it’s not enough to make the blend floral….which is a HUGE plus for me.
another tea from nxtdoor This one smells like harney and sons black currant tea but much more intense. I brewed this as a hot brew and after tasting it, knew that i’d prefer this cooled down. So i tossed it in the fridge and once it was cooled added a small splash of sugar to this. delicious! i actually prefer this one to H&S since it’s even more black curranty. thanks for sharing nxt door! Going to try the last of my sample as a straight cold brew i think.
I had a bit more of this tonight while relaxing with my other half after some much required running around today. We got to sit and watch some Hannibal so that was nice. :) My opinion hasn’t changed much on this…it’s decent but not out of this world and i might as well make other teas cold brewed since i’ve got lots in the house rather than buying these packs :) Still though…maybe an option for when i get my cupboard back down.
