6066 Tasting Notes
I think it was Helena that had this today and put the thought in my head…if not her then someone else. I haven’t had this in a while so it was nice to pull it out and enjoy it again. Similar to straight LB but the added oolong and cocoa nibs make it just a little different :) PLus i like the rice even if sometimes they remind me of things you DON’T want in your tea..or food. haha. Nice to revisit this one :)
Another one from missB! I felt like i was making cupboard headway today but then 12 teas arrived today from dexter so i’m back to square one lol oh well, that’s half the fun! And i have given myself until the end of the month to try and get down to 150 so i think i’m still more than fine :)
I like this one quite a bit. It doesn’t have that woodsy rooibos going on and there is a creamy amaretto like taste that i can get behind. The flavour isn’t overly strong but i only steeped it for 4 mins or so, so it could likely brew for longer. Looks like darlene may do rooibos well haha thanks missb!
mmmmm thank you missb! another almond flavoured tea that i quite like, though i’m not sure this surpasses the others from Damman freres that i love. Another smooth tea with a base that i enjoy. I don’t really get the blood orange taste that is supposedly in this one, so maybe thats why it seems similar to the other DF almond teas that i’ve had. However, still a pleasant tea :)
i asked missB to send me a couple to teas from the assam tea company as i’d never heard of them before and their website comes across as being quite extensive. This is one i would have picked up for myself so it was nice to receive. The dry aroma of this one is vanilla! and more vanilla! however, upon brewing the tea the ginger makes itself known. the taste of this tea is more like a sweet vanilla with a bit of something that cuts through it. It’s not the kind of ginger that i love – there’s a sweetness here that isn’t not the familiar spicy ginger i adore. However, it’s still a good blend. I’d be interested in seeing how this company does a straight vanilla black! overall a good first tea as an introduction to this company :) thanks missb!
another tea from MIssB I brewed this without looking at what i was getting into in terms of flavours because i wanted to to be surprised. It smells like a fruity mint….some essence of a black base there.
tasting the tea is like drinking a minty concoction that is tempered by a fruity background. I wouldn’t call it raspberry, though the fruit does sort of pop out at the end of the sip. Mostly though, this is a mint tea. It suits me just fine though as i do not count myself among the haters of mint ;) I for sure could get through a whole tin of this, though it wouldn’t be with any speed as mint is not always the first taste i want. Over all though, quite a nice tea even if it doesn’t remind me of any cake i’ve ever had :)
soooo i figured while i’m enjoying a puerh, i’d take the opportunity to have a few of the flavoured teas missB sent me as a contrast against the straight puerh deliciousness.
Dry this one smells like grapes…sweet grapes. As it brewed, the scent became more floral, which of course worried me. However, drinking this, there is not floral to be found. It’s not quite a grape tea…i suppose if you used your imagination a bit, this could be like a weak icewine. It’s not a bad little tea and certainly better than the last icewine tea that i tried. This one actually comes closer to feeling like an icewine. My only complaint? Darlene’s teas tend to have a bit of a film to them that rest on top of the water. Thanks for this one missb! i’ll enjoy this cup :)
I’m sipping on this one over the course of the morning to give it a full run through of as many steepings as possible. Gracebtlb sent this my way and i’ve been looking forward to trying it.
First couple steeps have been earthy with a hint of almond.
Edit: as this progresses the tea is becoming slightly sweet. I’m not getting the cherry flavours that grace mentioned but i am really enjoying this.
(more to come later)
thank you cavocorax for sending this one my way. I struggle with roasty oolongs. There’s something about SOME of them that i dislike, while others i love. I dislike the aroma from this one in dry form. However, as a brewed tea, the flavour that i don’t like in roasty oolong isn’t present. There’s an earthiness to this that is rather pleasant and if nothing else, this is a smooth brew.
While it’s well known that i’m not a huge fan of oolongs, this is one that i like a bunch. The strawberry cuts the oolongy taste out of the picture and makes it a refreshingly delicious cup of tea. It’s never something i’ll want all the time, but i for sure want this in my cupboard every now and then. I love that the strawberry isn’t overwhelmingly present and it’s not the least bit artificial. great tea teavivre!
sipdown! another tasty tea for this morning. I suspect the afternoon will be busy so i want to make sure i get a bunch of liquid in me before that happens. That way i can always toss some water in front of myself if it’s busy as it’s a bit more no fuss than tea haha. I like this one, but it’s not a restock for me. Maybe an occasional purchase as a sample just to rotate it through my cupboard but it just doesn’t wow me like some of the other teas i have. Nothing wrong with it – it’s delicious and i enjoy every last drop that i have but it’s just not a staple :)
