6338 Tasting Notes
sipdown 11! booyah!
testing for work AGAIn tonight, and i’ll be doing it AGAIN next week and the week after. best part about tonight’s testing was that it was smooth sailing until i got on the line to start my testing. The whole thing broke within 30 secs lol soooo good times hahaha
Since i’ve been falling asleep for most of today, i’m trying to get a few more teas in since i’m nearing the end of my easily sipdownable teas. This is only mildy concerning since i’m contemplating 3 orders that would add about 15 more teas to my cupboard haha
I picked this one up in my last order and it’s “alright” now that i’m a little more experienced in the puerh department, and have a better sense of what i like/don’t like..this is on the end of average for me. It’s not bad, but it’s pretty much just an ok time. IE. if i need 50 cents more in an order, this will be going in! haha
…and that would be sipdown 10.
I’m not sure what to make of this one. It’s sort of like an average cup of stuff going on. It doesn’t knock my socks off, it doesn’t wow me…but i don’t hate it. It just sort of reminds me of a bunch of the recent verdant blends. Rest of this is off to Terri so that she can try the blends as well. I just wish this had more OOMPH or something…
I took this one out with me for a walk earlier in the afternoon for a break from the keemuns i’d been sampling. I like this one better with it’s other formulation so i’ll have to keep my eye out for Verdant to go back to the other version and pick some up for fall. Still though, the version with goji berries is about an 85 for me, so still a solid tea when looking for a little chai in my life :)
I had this in the afternoon since i REALLY need to drink up some of my smaller puerh samples instead of accumulating them all. I still think that while i could live with having most of Mandala’s puerhs in my cupboard, there are a few that i MUST have…and this isnt’ one of them. it’s delicious, but not something that i’ll be wishing for often, now that it’s gone.
The first few steeps were a middle of the road brew that was smooth and delicious, while also not being out of this world. Later steeps brought out hints of woodsy vanilla. I’ll have to see if i can cold brew the rest of this over night just to see how it fares after a number of steeps hot brewed :)
Farewell my blend, until we meet again. I think in the grand scheme of things i prefer my original blend to the final, final version but not by a lot. I am happy with the creation of this one as stacy is a masterful blender! I feel like this makes me want to come up with another sort of custom blend though… hmmmm deicions, decisions…
Yep….this one is my favourite of the Teavivre Keemun’s though on the flip side, runner up was the grade 2 version because of the smokier factor of it…so price wise they sort of even each other out haha. Glad i had the chance to try several cups of each and compare the versions. :)
That also gives me sipdowns 5 and 6 for today
This is the most second most expensive keemun in teavivres arsenal and i think it might be the one i like least. Which, of course suits me just fine lol. The aroma of this one reminds me of taiwain teas that have that “juicy” sort of aroma.
Drinking this along, side grade 2 – it’s clear that grade 2 has much more smoke than this one. I think, the level of smoke lessens as you go up the ranks. While this one isn’t bad, drinking it next to the grade 2, i prefer the grade 2 for it’s seemingly smoother brew and smokier notes. Can’t wait to compare these to what i think will be my favourite from teavivre!
In terms of the keemuns from teavivre, this is second from the bottom, just above the grade 2 that they sell. I prefer this one to grade 2, though not because it is more keemun-like to me, but because there is more malt and a sort of cocao note that’s in here as well. I also prefer the aroma of this one brewed, since the grade 2 didn’t smell like much of anything to me haha There’s a note in here that bites towards the end, which will likely be the reason i prefer the organic version but we’ll see…
Edit: after a few variations of trying this one and that one against one another, i think i’ve come to the conclusion that i actually like Grade 2 and the Organic version the best…
I’m going to try and get to my Teavivre Keemuns today. In order of price per 100g this one is at cheapest and so far, my least favourite :) This is a sort of malty, kind of astringent brew. It’s not a bad tea, but if i only had to have ONE keemun in my cupboard, it wouldn’t be this one. There’s a hint of smokiness hanging out in the background, but nothing that anyone who didn’t like smoke, should have a problem with.
I may edit this later as i use the other half of my sample pack to compare against at least one other version from teavivre.
Edit: i think this one is actually more smoky than i imagine it to be because i’ve gotten used to that level of smoke in my tea and love it, especially with maple.
(also sipdown 4 for today)
