Persian Palace from Sloane Tea Company
56

I had a sample of this today while visiting the sloane pop up shop for their RIDICULOUS SALE. As far as the guy i talked to remember, this happens maybe once every couple of years. sooooo self imposed may ban is out the window so i’m going to try and aim for mid june, and if i can make it through mid june, i’ll kick it all the way to my birthday in mid july….or 10 days before that so that Us orders have time to arrive before my bday lol

This one wasn’t too bad, though it wasn’t as exciting as i hope it would be. there was some astringency that i didn’t like to it but mostly there wasn’t much happening with flavour. Compared to some of the other sloane blends, this is much inferior. The cardamon was nicely done..but it wasn’t too exciting.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake from Della Terra Teas
85

Had a cup of this with dinner. Still a delicious cake like tea that is nice when I want a super sweet indulgent cup of sweetness. Again, nothing I’d ever want to drink every day but every so often its a nice tea to curb my sweet cravings and keep me on track in my eating well and staying away from sweets. ;)

Apple Strudel Pistachio from Cuppa'T Specialty Teas
78

thank you lala for this one. I swear it smells and tastes VERY much like another tea that i’ve had though i can’t seem to recall which one it was. This is a really nice apple-y sort of strudel tea. I just wish i could remember which tea it reminds me of. I am really enjoying this one on this super cold, gross afternoon of hail, rain, wind and minor sleep deprivation from last night haha time to make cookies!

Héritage Gourmand - Macaron from Mariage Frères
66

sipdown! thus beating my “goal” for this weekend of getting to 290. 289! and there’s still a few more hours left in the day….though maybe not too many since i am beat! release weekend = no sleep and we needed up having to roll back at the last minute so pretty much it was an all nighter for no reason. Now to see if we have to do it again in may or we bundle it into the june release. ugh.

final verdict no this tea? I’m not a fan. there’s a bitterness that i can’t seem to get rid of no matter how i steep it. It’s not a BAD tea but when i think about mousse au chocolat…there is no comparison for me! Still though, thanks so much shmiracles for this sample since i do love trying mariage teas! and even though it’s not the most amazing it was still a treat! :)

Butterscotch from Simpli-special

forgot that i had this one last night as well. another sipdown but to be honest i recall nothing about it last night beyond wanting sleep. lol

Honeybush Chocolate Cake from Nothing But Tea
70

sipdown! Thanks kittylovestea I managed to get this one to work out on my second attempt. This is a pretty decent cakelike honeybush and i’m quite enjoying my cup. It’s nothing i feel the need to restock but i am happy to have tried this one, especially now that i got it to work better :)

Coconut Mango Colada from Tea Forte
81

backlog! sample sipdown. I had this last night as well near the end of it..just before i got to take my nap between 3:30 and 5 lol I’m super glad that lala sent this my way as it’s not something i would have picked up because of the coconut even though the mango would have tempted me. Verdict after this second bag? Delicious! For sure something i could keep around at work for a bagged tea in a pinch :) thanks lala!

Earl Grey from Tazo

Backlog from last night – sample sipdown from kittylovestea I had a couple bagged teas to try last night. early grey and i? we don’t get along because of that bergamot stuff :P While it wasn’t anything delicious, there was a small part of me that can see how this might be pretty tasty as a latte. still though? not a winner simply because it’s not my kinda tea :) nice to cross it off my list though!

Shui Xian Wuyi Oolong from Verdant Tea
79

Another backlog from last night. I REALLY enjoyed this one cold last night. Without sugar, it was a dark roasty oolong that had a slight hint of vanilla. With a little sweetener the vanilla notes popped out more. Either way it was a tasty cold cup of tea last night!

Mango Sunrise from Yumchaa
67

backlog and sipdown! Made a large batch of this cold brew the other day and had it last night. I much prefer this as a cold brew than a hot one as the flavours became slightly more enhanced. Thank you again Hallieod for letting me try this one!

Fili from Custom-Adagio Teas
57

backlog Sipdown! thanks terri! I had this last night while testing – it’s not something i love with that familiar weird adagio taste i don’t like but for whatever reason i kept drinking it. None of the tastes really popped with this one – it seemed to boil down to just a meh cup of tea. Oh well, can’t win them all! :)

Southern Pecan from A Southern Season
66

thank you kittylovestea for this one. Overall not a bad little blend. It’s nothing magical but it’s a smooth blend that isn’t overly sweet but has a really pleasant nutty taste, though it does remind me more of hazelnut than pecan (similar to what kitty found) Happy to have tried this one

Toffee from Le Palais des Thes
88

Had this one last nigh to compare against caramel toffee from Damman. End of story they are both pretty delicious!

Caramel-Toffee from Dammann Freres
87

Backlog and sipdown from last night. I wanted to compare this one against the toffee from palais de the’s toffee. Sadly i don’t recall much in terms of comparing the two since it was a super late night. I have a vague recollection that the damman freres version was slightly smoother and more about the black base, while the palais version was more about the flavour, with the base taking a bit more of a background. Either way both are delicious so it would likely come down more to which i could get my hands on here in canada more easily :)

Kili from Adagio Custom Blends
59

thank you terri for this one! I’m not sure if it was the steeping or something i did but this tastes mostly just like a slightly spicy vanilla black. However, i am a-ok with that because it’s pretty tasty! it still has that weird black taste that all adagio blends seem to have that i dislike but it’s not objectionable in this blend because of the vanilla :) Thanks terri!

Black Forest from Simpli-special
63

sipdown! thank you kittylovestea i played with this one a little more today to see if i could improve upon the taste. Sadly it really is just more like a smooth black tea with a bit of flavour that doesn’t speak to me. I added a splash of sweetener and milk which helped a little but i’m sure this isn’t what kitty has experienced with this tea. ah well! at least i tried!

Carrot Cake Cupcake Green Rooibos from Simpson & Vail
67

sipdown! thank you fiddling for sending some of this for me to try. There are a number of S&V blends out there that i enjoy and some that are a bit more on the “miss” side. this one falls somewhere in the middle for me. It doesn’t come across as overly cupcakelike but there is that “something” there that reminds me of how carrot cake tastes. That combination of icing mixed with the spices that go in to carrot cakes. It’s why my other half loves carrot cake…with cream cheese icing! I don’t think i’ll restock this, but not because i don’t like it…simply because there are other teas out there that i prefer. thanks again fiddling!

Raspberry from Murchie's Tea & Coffee
68

sample sipdown! thank you cavocorax for sending me this along with a few other teas to try from murchies. This is decent enough blend, though i’m not sure it’s as “raspberry” as i want it to be. The black base in this is fairly smooth and blends well with the flavour.
Thanks again cavo!

Flowery Pineapple Oolong from Butiki Teas
85

oh man. this is a sipdown, though i never put it into my cupboard because i knew i was going to be trying it shortly after i received it. I asked stacy for a sample of this one in my last order because of the other pineapple oolong that i recently tried and found not so bad from lupicia. I wanted to see how stacy’s version would hold up against that one.

If you had any doubts? hers was of course so much better. First off, the aroma of this dry is like straight up pineapple. that delicious magical wonderful smell that comes from a ripe amazing pineapple. When i brewed this, it was just as divine. Forget that this is an oolong. I generally dislike oolongs but i am loving this tea. I may actually order a small bag to have when i need some fruity goodness. I actually really wish i had more of this to try as a cold brew, since this pineapple flavour is really authentic. mmmmmmmmm! delicious! seriously! love it! thank you stacy!

Edit: uh the pineapple pieces in this? totally delicious if you eat them out of the basket lol

Gui Fei Oolong from Butiki Teas
76

sipdown! I’ve been drinking this over the course of the afternoon just to give it a final run through. What i have come to decide is that while i do enjoy this one a lot, it’s not my favourite dark roasty oolong. I may pick it up from time to time but it’s not one that i need to have in my cupboard all the time. There’s a dryness to this tea that is interesting, and i really like the woodiness of the tea.

Tippy Orthodox GFOP Assam (TA40) from Upton Tea Imports
68

Bumping up the rating on this one a little as it was nearly as bitter as the first time i had it. pretty sure i just over steeped it the first time. A decent assam but given all the others i have, I don’t think i’ll restock this once its finished. Not a bad tea but nothing special that warrants a permanent spot in the cupboard.

The Naughty Vicar from The London Tea Room
78

thank you terriharplady I think i prefer this black currant version to the Harney’s version that i’ve had. This one has a little stronger flavour, the addition of a bit of vanilla and it smells wonderful! the black base doesn’t overwhelm the black currant flavour and there’s no astringency here to ruin anything. I have a bit left so i might try cold brewing this to see what that does to this one :)

Momoko from Lupicia
10

sipdown! (fair warning, i’m aiming for at least 290 by the end of the weekend, and this puts me at 301)

this is NOT the tea for me. I don’t mind the peach taste so much but behind the vanilla taste there’s a floral taste that makes me want to cry. It smells delicious! and i really like how the vanilla is in with the peach, but that floral thing going on makes this a NO tea. this might be a really nice tea for someone who enjoys more floral green teas… rating reflects my dislike for floral things…ick.

Lingonberry Green from Ambessa (by Harney & Sons)
58

sipdown! heh thanks to fiddling for this one. I wanted to try this one in the event that i loved it and needed to pick up a tin of it since it is available locally at chapters. I love the choco-nut ambessa, but as this one is green, i wasn’t to sure how i’d feel about it. Also, i’ve never had a lingonberry before so yay for new things!

As it turns out, this is a little too “green” for me. It might be interesting as a cold brew but hot, it’s very much a green grassy tea with a hint of a fruity taste that i can’t place, which i assume is the lingonberry. Not a bad tea but nothing i’d kill to have in my cupboard. Thanks again fiddling! appreciate the share!

Bio

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
