5930 Tasting Notes

Since i’m trying to get through my verdant reserve teas, I knew i had to open this one to try it finally. I’ve been holding off because LB is one of my favourite teas and i wanted to have this to savor. Turns out? This tastes very similar to my memory of LB. I may have to do a comparison in the near future, because i don’t see them as being much different. Still delicious to drink but nothing incredible or over the top.

I had this one tonight – we went out to visit friends who had a baby about a month ago. He is adorable! I have pretty much not accomplished any sipdowns this weekend, which is a sad, sad, thing since i know i’ll be picking up a couple teas at winners/holt’s tomorrow simply because the opportunity to pick up french teas are far and few between here in canada. While that means an increase in cupboard size, i’ve been pretty good about not buying teas recently. I still love this tea, and i’m sure that once it’s gone, i’ll find some way of restocking it :)

cteresa

If you get the chance, try Mariage Freres´ American breakfast – it hits a few of the same spots Wedding Imperial does (chocolatey! malty! caramelly) but is IMO even better and far easier to brew right.

JustJames

i’ve added this one to my list….. maybe dependent on marks after exams, assuming i don’t behave to badly in between, lol.

Sil

Cteresa – hmmm I don’t think that one is at holts but I’ll keep it in mind. I was going to pick up French breakfast to try

cteresa

French Breakfast is on my shopping list. When I was fussing around all the World Breakfast samples, it was the the only real contender to my choice – second pick for sure (Parisian Breakfast was not for me). But American Breakfast was even more wow-ish chocolatey. I am quite in love with it, and sort of replaced definetely Wedding Imperial in my affections!

Sil

well if i can find a way to get american breakfast in canada i will do so! otherwise it’ll go on my shopping list for someday when i get to go to france…

Terri HarpLady

I’m really enjoying this conversation! As a lover of breakfast blends (when they are good, anyway), I want to try all of these, when I get the chance.

Terri HarpLady

Sil, although I can’t go with you in body, I’ll be with you in spirit when you go shopping today, :)
If you should see a tin of Pleine Lune, please grab it for me! I recall that I really enjoyed that one!

Sil

Will do Terri!

thank cavocorax I realised that i hadn’t tried this yet so today is the day! I love me some doctor who but i dislike most earl grey’s heh This isn’t a bad earl grey. It’s got a mildness to it that i like though it’ll never be a favourite. Thanks for sharing though Cavo! It’s pretty decent.

Cavocorax

Glad it was tolerable. :P It wouldn’t normally be one I’d need a tin of, but…. TARDIS! :O So I get extra enjoyment for thinking fandom feels!

Oh. I just remembered the exteneded trailer for the DW special came out this weekend! BRB.

Cavocorax

Ok, that was great. I missed 10. Those two will be brilliant together.

Sil

I’m refraining from watching…I only just finished up the snowmen

Cavocorax

Ok, well I’ll be careful not to say anything more to you about it until you catch up. >__>

Cavocorax

(which I realize may be months from now – no pressure)

Sil

haha yeah maybe…i’ve torn between wanting to watch them all NAAAAOO and wanting to savor them

Having another round of this in an effort to drink down my verdant reserve teas. I don’t love this one. It’s a decent enough oolong but nothing amazing for my particular taste buds! I may need to pass the rest of this on to my tea sister terri since she loves it more :)

Terri HarpLady

I’d go for that! :)

mmm…another tea from the BBB Box from Tastybrew!

This is very similar in profile to LB. I may need to do a comparison just to drink them side by side. I am a fan!

This is from the last trip of the BBB Box between myself, Terri and Tastybrew. Since the next round is on it’s way i need to get cracking on drinking the tea from that other round! I could swear that i’ve had this before but either i’m imagining things or steepster ate my note.

this is a really nice brew. I think i’d like to try this gaiwan style. It’s a little weak than what i like, but the notes in this are really interesting. Similar to what terri mentioned, there’s a bit of a peppery taste, but not to the point of being spicy/hot. Looking forward to drinking more of this!

i had this one to end the evening yesterday. My other half and i went for a walk in the evening, and had dinner out while trying to get a start on talking about this whole wedding thing. I think there’s likely a part of me that does really want a whole wedding/reception etc, but given that we would really like to buy a house in the near-ish future, have kids etc… it’ll likely be a small ceremony at city hall or something and then just a party, no dinner. we can do it all over again in 10 years or something with a big shebang haha

gmathis

Word of wisdom from an old fuddy-duddy: planning the lifetime together is far more important than planning the wedding :)

Nicole

Nothin’ wrong with simple. :) The important thing is you two, not the stage sets. :)

Sil

haha oh for sure. the practical side of me says, go to city hall and then have a potluck dinner with friends coming over to spend the evening :)

Sil

then you’d have good, food, good conversation…what else do you need? :)

Terri HarpLady

LOL, I was gonna suggest the potluck idea! GMTA!
As a person who usually plays at least one wedding a week, my advice is keep it simple & save your money for other things. It’s amazing what young couple blow their money on, & it adds nothing to the actual meaning of the moment. In the end, everybody ends up in debt. I’ve been told I’m too sensible, LOL. Every year Tony & I do a new year’s day brunch at my house, inviting both of our kids (my 4, his 2). If we ever actually tie the knot, we’re gonna do it on New Years day while we have everyone in one place.

Sil

Yeah I don’t care about flowers And that sort of thing….I really just want music to dance to and someone taking pictures so that I don’t have to, since it’s usually me doing it

ashmanra

Hubby and I got married one Sunday afternoon. We were going to just have us and the pastor right after service but some ladies in the church said they wanted to make punch and serve nuts and cake squares, my mother bought me a skirt and blouse, and the pastor announced that anyone who wanted to stay for the wedding could. No expense, no planning, no invitations. LOL! But it took, and we have had 27 years together so far!

Sil

that’s awesome ash :)

Terri HarpLady

Yup! Congrats!

I seriously can’t believe that i haven’t logged (and probably also tried) this yet. This.is. delicious. But only if i add my typical maple syrup that i love adding to smokier teas. It’s a little too much smoke for me without it, but all i really want to do with this one is cook with it now. My other half and i have a number of recipes that we’ve made for smokey tea cooking and this would be perfect for a couple of them. Glad i opted to try and get through my reserve teas this weekend!

sipdown! This is pretty meh. I can’t drink it hot, but once it cools with a splash of sugar, it’s much better. I still think there are better out there, and i don’t really want to drink tea for “pop” flavour at the end of the day. heh

drank Aussie Wattle Breakfast by T2
5930 tasting notes

thank you Alice This was one of the teas that Alice sent my way in our swap. I opted to try this one first out of the bunch she sent me because it was a nice small sample – i suspect this is how T2 sends samples with their orders. I’ve also never had wattleseed ever.

I really like this Alice! It’s an interesting blend that reminds me almost of waffles, though i’m not entirely sure if that’s because wattle and waffle look similar or it’s from the cinnamon and wattle seed. There’s a baked good sort of quality about this while still holding on to it’s black tea base. It’s not baked good like brioche for example..it’s that hint of bread like goodness. Overall quite pleased with this one! thanks alice!

Courtney

Waffles, yum!

alice

Woo good to know. I almost bought a whole box so I could try it myself but then the sales person offered to give me a take home sample so I went with that. Maybe I should buy a box. It looks to me like they use an Australian black tea base too.

T2 were bought out by unilever about a month ago so they might find their way to the US soon, who knows!

alice

Oops forgot that you are in Canada and not the US, they might turn up in Canada too who knows. They are an interesting brand with really sleek packaging and stores. I could see them being popular internationally.

Sil

Even if they managed to expand to the US that would be good enough :)

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
