drank Black Dragon Pearl by Teavana
4927 tasting notes

SIPDOWN! and backlog – another from yesterday. This one was not only packed in a travel mug for the drive home but i also shared a few of the steeps and re-steeps with my parents before i left. This is something i should have as a permanent fixture in my cupboard, or some variation of. I really like the chocolatey/malty taste of this one AND a little really does go a long way. Really appreciate the share tattooed_tea

Cavocorax

Mmmm. I need to decide which one I want to stock up on. It’s just a great tea! I could even brave teavana for it (while staying firm!)

Sil

Need to price compare. I really like the black dragon pearls i had from teavivre and i think they’re better priced? (that’s all in my head of course) and overall i DO feel better about giving teavivre my money :)

Nicole

Gotta try the black pearls from Mountain Tea… :)

Sil

oh that’s right! i have that on my list to get from you nicole lol

Dinosara

I currently have some of these that I got on sale but I prefer Teavivre’s

Sil

Good to know. I’m a bigger fan of NOT teavana than teavana. It’s just been a long time since I’ve had teavivre’s though I know I also really enjoyed those ones

Kittenna

Didn’t you have the pearls from Tealux as well?

Sil

yes! you’re right i did…but i don’t think i liked them as much as either teavivre or these

drank Orange & Cream by Della Terra Teas

long story short since this is a backlog….had this last night driving home from ottawa while watching the lightning storm happen around us in the car. Dark skies with lightning and no rain..it was really cool to watch the flashes of light and streaks across the evening sky :)

Kittenna

DId you ever get around to trying this as a cold-brew?! YUM.

Sil

nope but maybe i’ll do that tonight haha

Kittenna

Doooo ittt. I noticed in one of your posts you said you liked it best when steeped 8+ minutes. Since that obviously happens with cold brews, I’m thinking you’ll like it. I now need to dig out my samples of Lemon Chiffon (easily located) and Lemon/Lime Cream Tart (I have no idea where this one is) and see which is my favourite! I suspect I’ll end up choosing Lime Chiffon & Orange & Cream… unless lemon is really unique and amazing as a cold brew…. ramble ramble ramble.

Sil

just tossed lime and orange&cream into the fridge for a cold brew comparison tomorrow. I could do lemon as well but meh haha

drank Assam Superb Tea by Fortnum & Mason
4927 tasting notes

Had this earlier today from mom’s stash of tea. While its not a bad little cup, it was a little too bitter for me at 3mins. I likely won’t get another chance to have some but if I did I’d try 2.5 minutes with water just a little cooler, to see if that helps. I much prefer the breakfast tea I have from fortnums to this one but it was good to try.

Ysaurella

the F&M teas are generally very strong and malty. I recognize their qualities but maybe this is just not my kind of teas

Sil

I enjoy a few of their teas, but i’ve also had less than amazing experiences with some as well. I think they’re a hit and miss kind of company for me at least…

Spdown! Brought this one to Toronto with me for my morning cup just in case dad wouldn’t let me have any of his tea. Happy to have this one to kick off the morning.

drank Good Morning Sunshine by Butiki Teas

Having a cup of this today to start my morning with the parents. My parents are coffee drinkers in the morning so I’m on my own for tea. We’re off to watch Star Trek today before my other half and I will get back in the car to drive back to Toronto. It’s been really nice seeing my parents for this brief time :) especially since we’re not likely to see them again until Christmas.

TheTeaFairy

Oh, must be hard not seeing your parents for so long! So glad you were able to spend good and fun time with them :-)

Sil

thank you madam! we had a wonderful time :)

Had a cup of this last night with my parents since my dad has a collection of tea now but never wants to make tea. He seems to think there’s some sort of rules for drinking tea that he hasn’t mastered. So this weekend was about trying to show him that tea is just meant to be enjoyed. Rules be damned! Make it and enjoy it however you want. I made this one, and I’m not sure if dad enjoyed this, but mom went sneaking back to the pot to make a second and third cup for herself after I told her the leaves could be resteeped :) so this was a success for at least one of my parents to the point where she’s written down the name on her list. Heh.

Hallieod

Aww, your poor dad! It’s impressive that he’s buying it though – once you get him into the rules be damned mode all will be well!

Sil

lol well i had him drinking a few teas in the day we were there so that’s good

Fuzzy_Peachkin

Your Dad sounds like my Mom- She likes the idea of all the teas, but doesn’t want to brew them up herself. She’d rather have me do the work! :-)

Sil

haha yeah. i can’t be driving 5 hours to make tea though :) so they need to learn heh

Shelley_Lorraine

My parents live in the same town as I, so I see them often. I got my mother into drinking tea and she supposedly makes it daily when I am not there, but when I am. . .“hey, Shelley do I let the water boil for this one? Is this a green tea? Hojicha, that’s not hojicha, it says green tea on the can!” And for the 4th time I tell her yes, thats right, hojicha is a green tea. Then I have to wonder how it is that she brews tea when I am not there. sigh :)

Mmmmm another tea in the travel much yesterday. Mostly because this was a sipdown but I was fairly sure that my parents had managed to find more of this while in Paris. I was right – though the way my dad tells it, they had to go to 5 different shops and make the shop keepers dig through the back cupboards for it. But they succeeded. They picked up this one and wedding imperial for me, as well as a dragon well tea from another famous? Shop in Paris that specializes in Chinese tea. All I know currently is that it comes in the most interesting boxes and that I’d rather sneak my dads puerh and box lol but I 100% wil enjoy what they brought back. Dad also picked up mf’s most expensive? Or almost most expensive silver needle, which I haven’t yet tried :)

cteresa

Careful with Wedding Imperial – it is IMO a pretty fussy tea to brew up right (though weirdly, I got served it in a spa and they had nailed it perfectly there, much better than most of my attempts). Try water at 85 for 3 minutes, or at 90 for 2 first time.

And it sounds like great souvenirs from paris – that silver needle I am jealous of, do review!

Ysaurella

bravo :) now you need to come in person to visit Paris !

Sil

oh how i would love that! my other half has never been to paris and it’s been far too long since my last visit.

drank Premium Taiwanese Assam by Butiki Teas

Backlighting from yesterday as my other half and I opted to drive to Ottawa for basically the day. I took two mugs of tea in the car with me just in case and of course drank them both. I like how well this tea works in a travel mug. Even after a few hours when the tea gets a little cooler, it still tastes delicious!

drank Cookie Dough by DAVIDsTEA
4927 tasting notes

sipdown! thank you again for this sample courtney This is a really nice tea if you’re looking for a dessert tea. It really does remind me of the way that chocolate chip cookie dough smells, and the way that it tastes. There’s vanilla and almond and chocolate and even the dough like flavour is there. There’s a sweetness to this but there’s also the bitterness that you’d get from using semi sweet chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips. Overall a really nice tea if you’re in the mood for dessert! :)

Fuzzy_Peachkin

I just might have to try this the next time I’m in-store! :-)

Courtney

I was quite impressed with the way they got this one to taste. It wasn’t my favourite but it’s my fiance’s favourite for sure.

CHAroma

Ooh, I can’t wait to try my sample of this one!

drank Monkey-Picked Oolong by Teavana
4927 tasting notes

sipdown! thank you tattooed_Tea for this sample. There are green oolongs i like, those that i wish i could and then ones like this that are just never going to happen for me. This doesn’t have that green “oolong” taste that i have a hard time with, but there is a whole lot of floral-ness to this one that i just can’t stomach. It’s a fairly vegetal oolong as well, with that grassy taste hanging out in the background as well. Oh well, at least it’s another to knock off my list. I’ll try a resteep of this later on as well as a cold brew just to see if that changes how i feel about it.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
