the downside of being sick si that sometimes you fall asleep between cups of tea before logging them. soo forgive the crappy notes. I brewed this one up with the bai liu and i think this one was my preferred tea. i seem to recall chocolate/cocoa-y notes in this one and a deeper flavour that i really enjoyed. im’ glad i’m having such good experiences with these teas :) thanks again boychik!

boychik

You giving them very good ratings, I’m impressed.

Sil

haha yeah…i’d have to price them out and see where they fall in terms of some of my favourites from a value perspective but i can see rotating these in to my cupboard now and then a possibility. they’re quite enjoyable and slightly different than the other teas i’ve been drinking recently.

boychik

not cheap but quality teas. remember what JW said they have a distributor in Canada

boychik

if some sale would come all of a sudden, i wouldnt think twice. And you saw my cupboard(shhh not everything logged, found 2 boxes of unaccounted Verdant and samples, and swaps, and care packages(mostly shu or sheng))

Sil

agreed haha. i have a tea mule that i can send things to as well, so i don’t have to rely on canadian distribution lol

Joseph Wesley Black Tea

I’m happy to read you’ve been enjoying these teas. We actually just finished transferring the #3 to tea sachets (now called T1) and are getting set to replace the old #3 with another tea. I hope this doesn’t offend anyone’s sensibilities, but we found people were really enjoying this tea and that it worked in a tea sachet. Wanting a couple of options for cafes and restaurants, we decided this tea was most suitable for the dreaded tea sachet. If and when you are ready to order more tea, contact me and I’ll work out a deal for you and help figure out how to ship the teas to you. Thanks again, Cheers, Joe

boychik

What are you replacing it with , Mr. Wesley and should I get more of #3 ( I have nothing left) I don’t want sachets. Any promo ?

Joseph Wesley Black Tea

Boychik – because you asked, we’ll give you 25% off #3 until we run out (we have 9 canisters left – at least the last time I looked a day or two ago). Free shipping still applies to all orders over $40 (unless you’re ordering from Canada, in which case we’ll figure something out and I’ll get your teas sent from Windsor).

Joseph Wesley Black Tea

Simply type SayNoToBags when you checkout (there should be a prompt for a discount code). Feel free to pass along this discount code to anyone who might be interested. Thanks again, Joe

boychik

Thank you so much . It makes the deal sweeter. I’ll order first though ;) then l’ll share. I love to share and shared all your teas and spread the love.

thank you Angel of teavivre for sending me this tea. As most of you know, greens are not my go to tea. That being said, these teas from angel are almost enough to make me want to change my mind. :) This is a fabulous dragon well. it’s tangy and very much GREEN but without that overly vegetal taste that i dislike. there’s a buttery sweetness to this as well that i am loving! i drank more than a few cups of this today. I may need to see if a joint order is possible since i DO love these teas but i can’t get through a 100g bag fast enough to keep the freshness!

Cameron B.

I would definitely be up for that! I’ve heard so many good things about Teavivre but I haven’t tried anything from there yet. I don’t know which teas you’re interested in but I think I’d be willing to trust your judgment. :P

caile

You can buy this one in a 50g bag as well. :)

TheTeaFairy

(I told you before Sil…me think you are slowly leaving Dexter behind and joining forces with me to the “green side”, muahahaha!!!)

Sil

cameron – have to wait a while before i can pick up more teas sadly, but i’ll keep you in mind. heh teavivre has some incredible teas, and it seems like i am loving their green teas when it’s their blacks that are one of my go to places.

Sil

teafairy! NEVER!!

TheTeaFairy

Don’t forget I have Fairy powers….

Cameron B.

Sure thing, I’m in no hurry either so take your time. :)

Dexter

(green side = scary. It’s nice, warm, safe over here in my “dark” corner. Happy on the dark side….)

TheTeaFairy

(Haha! But Dexter, It’s a lot more fun when you play on both sides!!)

whatshesaid

I’m with you guys on the dark side….haha. But so far I’ve actually enjoyed the green tea from Teavivre!

TheTeaFairy

whatshesaid, that’s how the transition starts….

boychik

it may sound strange but i started to appreciate green or white teas after trying some good sheng

Sil

to be fair i do like green teas, i just don’t crave them like i do black teas…so if i buy too many of them, they end up losing their freshness…which is part of my operation to get to within 6 months of tea purchases…

Plunkybug

I think that this is one of the ones I got too. Looing forward to trying the two dragon wells I got.

drank Pineapple Angel Food Cake by 52teas
7475 tasting notes

thank you roswell strange and VariaTEA for sending this my way. I have to say, i never expect much from Frank’s teas anymore as they still remain largely inconsistent the times when i do get them. This one though? not too shabby – though it of course is ridiculously expensive if you consider it’s only 1oz for the same price as others. I am getting a really nice pineapple flavour out of this one, though there’s a hint of spices that i’m guessing make up the cake part of this. That being said though, in the grand scheme of things, i’m thinking i might prefer just a straight up pineapple tea…a la butki. Not bad though, and certainly better than some of the 52 teas that i’ve had :) thanks for sharing ladies!

the lovely boychik sent this my way and i’m ever so glad that she did. I’ve been wanting to try the Joseph teas for a while now, given the rave reviews but could hardly justify the ridiculous shipping for samples. I’d rather get a chance to try a few and then place a real order via my tea mule.

I’m also glad that i brewed this one along side that gross david’s tea since THIS is such a lovelier cup of tea. There is a hint of astringency to this one but nothing that would interfere with the pleasure of drinking this. it’s got a nice malt feel too it, though i wouldn’t call it an overly malty tea. there is some sweetness here that reminds me of peach but isn’t peach…just a really nice tea.

Cameron B.

Lol, your tea mule! Epic. :P

I hope you’re feeling better!

Sil

getting there…much better than sat/sun :)

Cavocorax

Are you working from home today? :O Hope you feel better soon.

Sil

yes..working from home.. and by working i mean attending meetings and doing what i can to not get too far behind while sitting on the couch and in the bed relaxing as much as possible.

OMGsrsly

Ooh, good to read you’re resting lots (and drinking loads of tea!).

Joseph Wesley Black Tea

Sil, happy to read that you enjoyed the tea. We’ve been working with a cafe in Windsor who can ship our teas within Canada for a much more reasonable rate than I can). If you are interested in trying our teas, contact me and I’ll put you in contact with the great people over at Anchor Coffee House ([email protected]) — as a reminder, for those in the US we have free shipping for all orders over $40. cheers, Joe

Joseph Wesley Black Tea

—and I hope you get well soon!

boychik

i hope you feel better by now. Staying home and drinking tea and chicken soup are a must.
Im really glad you liked the tea. Sorry i couldnt share more. i finished all the JW teas i got on NYC tea fest. i have to place an order by Sept., i really hope to get my cupboard somewhat manageable during the summer. these teas are definite restock.

Sil

Joe – thanks for that, sounds great. And no issues with the shipping thresholds as a general rule, just tough to swallow when i haven’t tried your teas. But now that i have thanks to boychik, an order is likely imminent haha (once i get things under cupboard control!)

Boychik – appreciate what you could spare… so happy to be able to try these!

boychik

Anytime you want to sample something fr my cupboard do not hesitate haha Just found 2 boxes of Verdant teas in my closet from last summer… Why is it there, dont ask. have no answer…

TheTeaFairy

Haha! Boychik, maybe you had something to hide?

boychik

you are right TheTeaFairy, i hide it fr my family. i just got a package fr Amazon with shampoo and my dd asked me if its a tea. She said, “Are you sure?” …lol

Sil

boychik – i know how that goes… you send me lots of teas to try thereby reducing YOUR cupboard…and don’t let me send you anything!

boychik

no i swear, it wasnt my plan. And i didnt send you huge amounts, just to sample. And I will ask you in September. i just go to rural place in PA, i have to drive 20-30min to get my mail.

drank Wild Black Yunnan by DAVIDsTEA
7475 tasting notes

i think my tastebuds are not in sync with the rest of the world. I’ve tried a number of straight David’s teas now and i pretty much hate them all. Price for what you’re getting is not that great and the teas themselves are always on the end of yuck for me versus YAY! take this one for example, sent in the grab bag of the BBB Box. The instructions for this tea say basically boiling for 4-5 mins. I brewed it at 3 and i’m left with a gross bitter, astringent tea that leaves a foul taste in my mouth. It doesn’t smell nice and while i can recognize the malt notes in the background of the blech, it’s not enough to make me want to play with this tea at all, especially given the price – 9.50 for 100g! jeeebus. no way.

Cavocorax

I think your problem is that you are trying these AFTER you’ve tried the best versions of these teas, while (I imagine)a lot of the people who try these from DAVIDs are curious noobs looking to branch out/experiment with unflavoured teas. I wonder how my ratings would compare now if I went back and tried them again!

Cavocorax

Still, after comparing your experience with my review I am a little surprised that it was so bitter and astringent! :|

Sil

i wouldn’t serve this to anyone lol

drank Prickly Pear by Tea Desire
7475 tasting notes

roswell strange sent this one my way and it’s a good thing I’m drinking this sick lol I think. There were some massive rose buds in thinks that admittedly I dug out before brewing. It was a nice enoug cup, but not something I need to stock in my cupboard. I think?? I prefer the tea from Cornelia bean of he the same name, though this was a nice light fruit tea.

FInal Count: 219 (not bad 20 teas over the weekend while i was sick!)

Terri HarpLady

Still sick? poor girl

Roswell Strange

It’s good cold brewed; the rose is less noticeable. Tea Desire loves adding big chunks of things in their fruit blends though.

Sil

2 days of sleeping almost non stop and i’m finally feeling a bit better today though my cough is no hell. Working from home so that i don’t get anyone at the office sick.

Terri HarpLady

Glad your starting to mend

Sucky tasting notes abound…sorry team…just trying to track this so I can get back to sleep. This is another courtesy of variaTEA and a decent one at that. It still can’t compete against the pumpkin tea that Terri and I love but this was a nice enough visit with the pumpkin spice :) thanks for sharing VT!

Terri HarpLady

Hopefully in about 4 months we’ll be able to get more of that awesome pumpkin tea!!

Dexter

Jealous of that special pumpkin tea. Hope you feel better soon Sil.

Sil

dexter, when there is more to be had, you will get some!

Terri HarpLady

We’ll have to place a seriously ridiculous bulk order :)

Dexter

Seriously ridiculous bulk order sounds like a good time to me – especially if I can get even a small piece of it. :))

Sil

yeah…i’d do at least 200g…

Sil

have you even tried it yet dexter? lol

Dexter

No I haven’t, but I’ve tried a MOUNTAIN of pumpkin teas and Della Terra Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie is my favorite. That should tell how excited I am to have the opportunity to try this one. Based on your comments I anticipate making everything else seem like warm swill water….

Sil

ew..no this one is better than della terra’s…though to be fair it’s got ginger, so if you’re a ginger hater, it won’t be for you :)

Dexter

I don’t mind ginger if it enhances rather that obliterates the other flavors. :))

TheTeaFairy

I.love.pumpkin.tea.too. Just saying…

Sil

hahahaha

boychik

ok ppl, i need this what you are talking about. i dont know what tea is that, but based on your conspiracy … very intriguing…

Sil

terri sent me some, i feel in love with it…it’s terribly delicious and fresh and made with love and real pumpkin chunks… and it’s gone…and it’s a sad time because it’s pumpkin AND ginger..and i love it.

TheTeaFairy

(Boychik, I don’t know, just tried to infiltrate the thread also…)

boychik

good to know. i put it on my want list:)
TheTeaFairy ROFL

Dexter

So really we are right back where we started with Terri needing to place a seriously ridiculous bulk order for us. ;))
Notice how I too just assumed my way in.

Sil

that’s how it goes.. and all i have to say is…as long as i get at least 200g…you ladies are all welcome to share in the joy of a giant order. lol otherwise…BACK OFF! (i kid i kid! but i wish i had this one to add to the GCTTB)

Terri HarpLady

OK Peeps, don’t get too excited, because it is only available in the Fall. The gal who makes it used locally grown org pumpkins, which she roasts & then dehydrates, & that is the basis for the tea! Maybe I should plant pumpkins this year…it’s been awhile since I grew them.

drank Triple Creamy by Bayswater Tea Co.
7475 tasting notes

Latte of this one with dinner….added a few cacao nibs just to really make it chocolatey…sooo delicious…

QueenOfTarts

Do you think this tea is particularly creamy? I’m always on the hunt for one!

OMGsrsly

It’s 3 types of chocolate, so I’d be more inclined to call it “Triple Chocolate”.

Sil

yeah… it’s chocolate – i don’t love it brewed normally but brewed in milk, i’m a happy camper

Cold brew of this one produced a decent cup of fruity juice. I’ve spent all day sleeping so up for dinner, a few things of liquid then back to bed for me

VariaTEA

Feel better Sil!! I have been sleeping too but of course my sister managed to wake me from a wonderful slumber.

YYZ sent this one my way and let me tell you, i am a FAN! this is how i want more darjeelings to taste. :) I’m not sure what previous years tasted like but this is not floral and doesn’t have that typical darjeeling taste that i tend not to enjoy all that much. i am going back to bed…sick is not a fun place to be and today i’m too exausted to be even out of bed..but it was nice to get in a couple cups of tea. especially such nice cups.

OMGsrsly

Get better, Sil!

yyz

So glad you like it! By teabox’s and the old Darjeeling expresses description of this tea this years flavour is probably more typical, than my previous box with it being sweeter with more chocolate notes. My previous box kind of reminded me of a mature deciduous forest with herbal and loam and green floral notes along with the fruit and cocoa. It tasted a little bit cooler and green, but still very good. It’s interesting how the Yunnan translates to the Darjeeling environment. The tea can get muscatel characteristics if you give it a long steep. I found them at about 5 min, but I love the warm, cocoa fruit mix of shorter steeps. Hope you got lots of rest today and are feeling better!

Sil

I’m really looking forward to trying the other teas you event my way. I’ve just been cautious this weekend as I’m not sure how impacted my taste buds are by being sick…..so far, though, they seem to be doing ok..

boychik

Feel better;)

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
