drank Cinnamon Swirl Bread by sTEAp Shoppe

awe yeah! cinnamon swirl bread is in the house! 4 oz of it. So yes…i’m a happy camper, especially with the resteep value on this one. It was the perfect tea to go along with today’s work fiascos in the morning. I’m really glad i have this now when i want it instead of jsut the memory of it from my swap with tastybrew :)

Tealizzy

Nice! I’m getting low on mine. Aaahhh! At least shipping only takes a day ;)

Sil

for YOU maybe lol mine has to travel to my tea mule and then come up after a weekend :)

Tealizzy

I know. I was just rubbing it in a little ;) Honestly, I wish I could just pick some up in person because they are literally like an hour drive from me. Then I wouldn’t have to pay for shipping!

Sil

haha

Sil

i’ve thought about showing up at stacy’s door….gimme my butiki tea! lol

Tealizzy

Lol! I would do that!

Fuzzy_Peachkin

Stacy works out of New Jersey and that’s right next door. I could totally do that! ;-)

Terri HarpLady

I need to try some of this one.

Sil

Oh there will be some sent to you :)

trying to catch up on my logs. sadly work has been increasingly busy meaning i have time to DRINK tea, most of the time, but not time to write about it.

hallieod sent this one to me in the hopes that I would enjoy it more than she did. I’m pretty sure that experiement was a success since i’m finding this one really nice. Now is it a better tea than #49? hells no! but it’s still a nice black and more than suitable for my morning rotation. This is slightly malty but not overly so. It’s a robust tea that might have a bit of astringency but i’m thinking i steeped this for way less time than most. I’ll have to have more of this one the weekend when i can dedicate more time to it.

thank you so much for sending this my way hallieod

Preparation
Boiling 2 min, 45 sec
TeaBrat

I must try this #49!

Sil

it’s really nice imo. one of those blends that will eventually become a staple in my cupboard…if i can just get it contained again. eesh

TeaBrat

I should have gone to visit them in Portland, there just wasn’t enough time…

Terri HarpLady

I need to try this one too…
I also need to order some more #49, my stash is getting VERY low!

Sil

I have earmarked some of this for you since hallieod sent me the rest of her bag…aka most of it :)

drank Berry Chocolate by Kally Tea
5374 tasting notes

not quite a sipdown unless someone wants the last of this to try lol. Still not a bad rooibos, though it’s not my favourite. It’s not a rooibos with that distinctive “rooibos” taste so it’s good in my books :)

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more

drank White Chocolate by sTEAp Shoppe
5374 tasting notes

So i have a confession, which isn’t that big of a deal, but i hate white chocolate. it’s like chocolate, only without the “good” stuff. Cavocorax was awesome enough to let me steal a cup of this tea from our order with Janet at the steap shoppe (big shout out to janet for her amazing customer service by the way!).

The dry blend smells delicious. It’s chocolate and yet not quite the chocolate smell that i associate with white chocolate. There’s an undertone of vanilla in the smell as well. There is rose hip in here, but there is nothing floral about this blend.

The liquid form of this tea could be called white chocolate, but i’m not sure if i’ve ever had white chocolate that tastes like this :) My other half says that this does taste like white chocolate, at the end of the sip. I’m getting more of a vanilla chocolate taste, but it’s still pretty good and the tea base is nice. I think this could be one of those teas i enjoy from time to time while not a regular member of my official lineup lol
thanks again cavo for letting me sneak some of this before i send it to you! (also yay for not having to add it to my cupboard)

Preparation
180 °F / 82 °C 4 min, 0 sec
Hallieod

You’re not alone in hating white chocolate! I couldn’t eat it now anyway, but the only point to it I could ever see is making less of a mess when ‘eaten’ by little kids. For values of ‘eaten’ which involve getting on face, getting on clothes, getting in hair…

Kittenna

Wait… didn’t I order this one!?

Kittenna

Oh – I see we both did :D Whew!

Sil

silly goose. I figured if i snuck a taste from cavo, you would have more to share with raritea if she wanted a try lol since i’m sending stuff to cavo currently anyway heh

Cavocorax

I’m not normally into white chocolate either – it tastes kinda fake and plasticky to me. Maybe I just buy too much cheap chocolate. As a tea I have better hopes though. It can’t possibly taste like plastic!

Sil

it doesn’t lol

sipdown! (276) as I’m pretty sure this is a tea my friend would love. Thank you Kittenna for sharing this one with me. This is a tea that tastes like peach. it’s not a bad tea…there’s no astringency or bitterness and it’s pretty smooth. But it’s not a tea i love, or need in my cupboard. It’s a fairly average tea with not a whole lot going on. there are better black peach teas out there that i’d pick before reaching for this one.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 30 sec
Ysaurella

It seems I’m tired…I have read first Marijuana Flavored tea !!!

haha

drank Earl Grey De La Creme by Red Leaf Tea
5374 tasting notes

sipdown! the last of this is going to a friend who really wants some more early grey tea. But for the record…this is NOT a sign that i am coming over to the dark side with earl greys…but i do like this tea. The bergamot is really soft in this one and there is that lemoney cream taste that it’s got going on. That you Hallieod for sharing this one with me.
(also, sipdowns + parents tea + steapshoppe order i was allowed to place from may showing up = back up to 278. eek!)

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec
Hallieod

Hah – good thing I wasn’t trying to bring you over to the dark side in sending this. :P Glad you liked it though!

drank Ivory Himalaya by Mariage Frères
5374 tasting notes

this is another backlog from yesterday. A tea my dad purchased in Paris that i forced him to open and consume because otherwise it would still be sitting there the next time i came to visit, unopened. So i brewed a cup of this for him to try and let mom have a sip…who exclaimed she wanted a cup, so i gave her the cup i was making for myself (resteep) and warned her it would be a little different tasting. Went back to resteep it again for myself, at which point my dad came back in the the garden to announce that i should make him another cup for dinner…so i gave him my other resteep…

Yeah…we steeped this 4 times and i took the last steep so my parents could enjoy the “better” steeps. I also used this tea to show my parents that you CAN resteep some of the teas that dad has purchased without losing too much flavour.

Did i mention that this tea is EIGHTY FIVE EUROS for 100 grams… yeah. I think this is officially the most expensive tea that i’ve had to date. Now, those who know me, know that white teas are generally not my thing. However this tea was pretty darn delicious. I’m sort of hoping that dad decides he doesn’t like it and sends the rest to me later, though that’s not likely to be the case given how fast he drank his two cups.

This tea is light and refreshing and totally not floral. It really does have notes of honey and vanilla in it. The liquor is a beautiful pale golden yellow colour that faded to a dull yellow. I wish i could tell you more, but i didn’t get a chance to jot down too many notes, since my parents kept wanting me to make more heh. If i get the chance to go back and have more, I will write a better note. Promise.

Nicole

That’s an expensive tea, holy cow!

Sil

yeah…i worked out that before this, the most expensive tea i’d had was roughly 53euro for 100g in comparison factoring exchange rate/ounce to grams etc…

K S

That’s more expensive than Starbucks! lol

Ysaurella

ohhh seeing the tea , I was thinking Sil’s Dad is really awesome :)

Sil

Ysaurella – i agree. I think if i really get him into ths i might get to try many more teas that are on the “too expensive for me to buy” end of things.

drank Black Dragon Pearl by Teavana
5374 tasting notes

SIPDOWN! and backlog – another from yesterday. This one was not only packed in a travel mug for the drive home but i also shared a few of the steeps and re-steeps with my parents before i left. This is something i should have as a permanent fixture in my cupboard, or some variation of. I really like the chocolatey/malty taste of this one AND a little really does go a long way. Really appreciate the share tattooed_tea

Cavocorax

Mmmm. I need to decide which one I want to stock up on. It’s just a great tea! I could even brave teavana for it (while staying firm!)

Sil

Need to price compare. I really like the black dragon pearls i had from teavivre and i think they’re better priced? (that’s all in my head of course) and overall i DO feel better about giving teavivre my money :)

Nicole

Gotta try the black pearls from Mountain Tea… :)

Sil

oh that’s right! i have that on my list to get from you nicole lol

Dinosara

I currently have some of these that I got on sale but I prefer Teavivre’s

Sil

Good to know. I’m a bigger fan of NOT teavana than teavana. It’s just been a long time since I’ve had teavivre’s though I know I also really enjoyed those ones

Kittenna

Didn’t you have the pearls from Tealux as well?

Sil

yes! you’re right i did…but i don’t think i liked them as much as either teavivre or these

drank Orange & Cream by Della Terra Teas
5374 tasting notes

long story short since this is a backlog….had this last night driving home from ottawa while watching the lightning storm happen around us in the car. Dark skies with lightning and no rain..it was really cool to watch the flashes of light and streaks across the evening sky :)

Kittenna

DId you ever get around to trying this as a cold-brew?! YUM.

Sil

nope but maybe i’ll do that tonight haha

Kittenna

Doooo ittt. I noticed in one of your posts you said you liked it best when steeped 8+ minutes. Since that obviously happens with cold brews, I’m thinking you’ll like it. I now need to dig out my samples of Lemon Chiffon (easily located) and Lemon/Lime Cream Tart (I have no idea where this one is) and see which is my favourite! I suspect I’ll end up choosing Lime Chiffon & Orange & Cream… unless lemon is really unique and amazing as a cold brew…. ramble ramble ramble.

Sil

just tossed lime and orange&cream into the fridge for a cold brew comparison tomorrow. I could do lemon as well but meh haha

drank Assam Superb Tea by Fortnum & Mason
5374 tasting notes

Had this earlier today from mom’s stash of tea. While its not a bad little cup, it was a little too bitter for me at 3mins. I likely won’t get another chance to have some but if I did I’d try 2.5 minutes with water just a little cooler, to see if that helps. I much prefer the breakfast tea I have from fortnums to this one but it was good to try.

Ysaurella

the F&M teas are generally very strong and malty. I recognize their qualities but maybe this is just not my kind of teas

Sil

I enjoy a few of their teas, but i’ve also had less than amazing experiences with some as well. I think they’re a hit and miss kind of company for me at least…

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
