drank Mocha Matcha by Red Leaf Tea
4840 tasting notes

1200 tasting notes! woot woot! I thought i’d save it for something special but man every tea is special!

No real sipdowns coming up soon but i’ve resigned myself to that fact, especially in light of the fact that it’s THURSDAY! woot woot! only 2 more days until the fun is here haha. actually it technically starts on friday night but what the hey.

I am once again “helping” my friend drink her matcha down. At this point it’ll be forever until i can drink my own matcha again given that she’s got about 10? flavours that need help. I suspect that she’ll be off of tea for a while but maybe not. I’d forgotten how much i enjoy the mocha matcha, though i do prefer it when i can add a spash of coffee matcha to it to make it just a little less sweet. Of course today i added a splash of caramel matcha….i mean why not!

whatshesaid

I need to get me a friend like that!!!

Sil

haha she’s knocked up :) so all her tea is living at my place because the smell of it in her cupboard was making her throw up. haha

whatshesaid

Man, I probably have a pregnancy in my future this year if things go as planned… i REALLY hope that doesn’t happen to me :/
I was worried enough because you hear things about how you have to avoid certain food/drinks when knocked up and I’m sure I read something about tea, just not sure what kind. I’m hoping only peppermint. But I know doctors say different things. I had a paranoid friend who avoided ALL tea but that won’t be me! I hope I can drink matcha……….

Indigobloom

haha I’ll bring my Espresso matcha to compare! then we’ll just be missing Kona :)

Sil

I’m going to have to stop ordering tea a year before i think i’m going to try to get pregnant lol. It’ll take me that long to drink my stash down.

Ellyn

I have that SAME FEAR about tea with pregnancy. How will I give it up?

Sil

slowly…. lol

Ellyn

I have a friend who is pregnant and gave up coffee + tea + soda and all caffeine all at once. It was UGLY.

Bonnie

Wow! Congratulations!

Ellyn

When that day comes…yowza! It will not be good :)

TastyBrew

It’s all about moderation in pregnancy as long as it’s not making you sick. You don’t have to give up ALL you tea. Maybe just not as much a day :-)

Terri HarpLady

During my first pregnancy (30 years ago) I gave up tobacco & a variety of illegal substances. I didn’t give up coffee, but I did cut back (I loved my coffee back then). I drank herbal teas during all my of my pregnancies (4, in total), especially raspberry leaf, which is so good for women. After my lovely daughter Jessica was born, I had to give up coffee because it gave her a rash! I never got into drinking it again, & in fact, was even caffeine free until 20 or so years ago, when the addiction re-surfaced…

whatshesaid

I should probably stop ordering now, crap.

Bonnie

There are wonderful natural blends to begin to incorporate into your stash and get used to like mint and ginger and chamomile. Basil is fine also. Always check with the Doctor or labels because even herbs (not these I’ve mentioned) can be bad for pregnancy. I have a stash of things like orange peel, cinnamon nibs, dry ginger, rose petal, tulsi, mints and chamomile that I make blends with or add to what I have like dry fruit (cranberries for instance or lemon).

Cavocorax

Good luck whatshesaid! I was a first time mom and I gave up all caffeine because I didn’t know what was safe, and then I gave up tisanes because I was worried about herbs. It was most likely unnecessary but luckily I was just starting exploring loose leaf teas so it wasn’t unbearable.

I wish I’d known about rooibos…

But Tastybrew is right. It’s all about moderation. A few cups a day won’t hurt – just don’t drink strongly caffeinated tea all day.

Cavocorax

After the baby was born I rebounded hard and am now… well on Steepster. And my daughter is 10 months and sipping rooibos with me at night. <3

Nice, Cavo!

drank Wedding Impérial by Mariage Frères
4840 tasting notes

Another tea from ysaurella! Ill refrain from rating this until I can get back to my computer but I am thoroughly enjoying the delicious caramel and chocolate of this tea. Even my other half tasted this and liked it. Altogether win from marriage freres!

Thank you so much madam!

Ysaurella

happy you liked it, means you didn’t brew it too long ! you know now how different it is from the keemun base of DF Charlotte au chocolat.
I do prefer wedding imperial, strange as I normally prefer keemun to assam…

whatshesaid

I tried that one here once before the shop ran out…. I loved it so much! I went back to get more but it was allll gone :(

drank Charlotte au Chocolat by Dammann Freres
4840 tasting notes

oh man…this one…ysaurella you are the best! She saved the last little bit of this one so that i could try it and i am loving it! I prefer it to florence from harney and sons, and i think i could even get my other half to drink this instead of hot chocolate. This is a great example of a chocolate tea that is really great!

whatshesaid

are you a big fan of Florence?

Shmiracles

i’m gonna get this! period. i just am. eeeee!

Ysaurella

this is a good chocolatea – and I’m not very chocolate tea but I won’t rebuy it Dammann increased the rate of 50% …14 €/100 g !!!
It was 8 €/100 g seven months ago…I like it but not enough to pay the double without explaination

Sil

Wow that’s ridiculous!

Sil

Just noticed my other post didn’t save. I enjoy Florence, but it’s not to die for. However when I want that chocolatey, hazelnut goodness it’s a good one

Terri HarpLady

oooh….hazelnut GOODness! That sounds awesome!

drank Coquelicot Gourmand by Dammann Freres
4840 tasting notes

I don’t get the almond taste that other people do, but this IS a delicious tea. This is much like a candied tea. Ysaurella was lovely enough to send me a sample of this and it’s great. Again, i am pleasantly happy with the way in which the flavours and the tea blend together without overpowering one another. Delicious!

Ysaurella

I rediscovered this tea before sending you some. I don’t have it very often, just because it is stocked behind another tin. It is a delicious tea – you can have it with milk and sugar as well, it is so sweet

Sil

ooh i’ll have to try it with milk and sugar next time!

ashmanra

I was amazed to taste biscuit in this one. I obsessed about it so much after getting a sample in a swap, that my daughter bought some for me, along with Charlotte au Chocolat one birthday or Mothers Day, not sure which.

i promise you that there ARE teas other than butiki teas in my cupboard though i’m pretty sure the ratio, at least in terms of sheer volume leans towards Butiki, Verdant and Upton at the moment. I apparently just got on to a Butiki kick earlier and haven’t gotten off. I still have a few samples that i’d like to try so i suspect there will be other non Stacy teas coming soon but we’ll see. Mostly i’m trying to take some time today to get working on the teas that I haven’t had a chance to really sit with and savour lately.

So this tea…I have no idea if this is close to plum pudding, but i do rather like the plum and spice that this tea provides. I had a cup of this with a small piece of brownie and the chocolate only served to enhance and bring out the plum notes. Delicious!

Bonnie

I like this one too.

Butiki Teas

I have no idea either. Never tasted plum pudding before but this is what I imagined it might taste like.

Bonnie

I’ve made it. Not something to make a second time if you make it the traditional way like I did and definately not vegan (although you can do a vegan modern version). I made it long ago. Suet! The spices are good. It’s really more of a fruitcake with liquor (can be stout) and a pound of suet (or butter now) and nuts. It’s steamed after wrapping it up and can be slow cooked in a crock pot. Should be served with hard sauce. I think Stacy did a good job. Just because it says Plum Pudding in the name, doesn’t mean the pudding has plums though. It’s just one of those odd things. Probably came from the addition of dried prunes.

Anyanka

Mmm. I went on a steamed pudding kick earlier this year and made a bunch by simmering a filled tin pudding mold in a big stockpot on my stove. My recipes were slightly updated for the times (less beef fat, more butter), but I do have many that I found in online archives from the 1600-1800s.

Sil

nice!

Kittenna

Hrm. I’m curious to try a (tiny) sample of your Plum Pudding batch to see how it compares to mine, if you have enough left. I don’t feel like mine is as tasty :P

Kittenna

Also – my mom always makes what we call Christmas Pudding, each year at Christmas. I suspect it’s the same thing as Plum Pudding (no plums). I adore it with a basic margarine/icing sugar sauce, but of course it’s meant to have the hard (rum) sauce, which is ok but not as good IMO.

drank Pineapple Cilantro Cream by Butiki Teas
4840 tasting notes

i am totally digging this one today. it’s much improved from the last time that i tried this one. I am picking up much more pineapple this time. I’d really like to try ths as a cold brew sometime soon. i love the creaminess that blends with the pineapple.

Kittenna

Cannot wait for this!

Sil

every time you say that i have a small panic attack thinking i’ve been drinking “our” tea…and then i remember it came in two packages so i’m only drinking from mine.

Kittenna

Ahaha, I figured that out too! I was wondering why you had been drinking it, since it was a split tea (not that I really care, mind you), but then it occurred to me that it probably came in separate baggies. I’m guessing the Wild Mountain Black didn’t, though!

Sil

you guess right on the wild mountain black…though that’s good because it’s kept me from drinking it

drank Organic Guranse by Butiki Teas
4840 tasting notes

yeah that’s right…another butiki tea. with dessert…before i’ve had lunch. Nothing says YUM! like a brownie and a nice afternoon tea. This is a realy nice afternoon, mellow kind of “hey how’s it going, so nice of you to drop by” sort of tea. There’s a bit of maltiness and a teeeeeny bit of astringency but over all it’s a very relaxing cup with a bit of a dry aftertaste as well. I can see enjoying this on the weekend in the afternoons when i’m coming back from running around like a crazy person :)

drank Kamba Berry by Butiki Teas
4840 tasting notes

apparently i’m having a bit of a butiki moment right now. I have to say that this is a pretty disgusting tea to look at after it’s been dumped with water lol. there’s a sludgy pinkish mess of goop in my brew basket…it’s a little weird.

As for the tea? well there’s a sour-ey sweet smell going on here that confuses my nose. The taste however? totally neat. I REALLY want to try this cold brewed as i think that’ the sweet spot for this tea. Hot, it’s not bad but i can feel that this would really pop as a cold brew! A little touch of sugar to sweeten it and the berries would be a delicious mess of bright pink koolaid colour tea of yum. Next stop? cold brewing this!

Kittenna

Haha, yes, I saw the sludge in my infuser basket too! I actually got tricked into thinking this was a herbal because of that…

mmmmm now this? this is an oolong i can get behind. This is dark and beautiful and there’s a woody, almost smokey but not quite flavour going on here. Yep, this is not your every day oolong, this is one for me! :)

Sil

sorry for the lack of a good descriptive tasting note. i’m going to go make out with this tea for a bit.

Dinosara

We are like total opposites when it comes to our tastes in oolong!

Sil

haha yeah. that’s not a bad thing though. :)

Stephanie

You make me want to try more oolongs!

Sil

stephanie – oolongs are a dangerous place to visit. sometimes they’re awesome…sometimes they make me sad…soooo sad lol (that being said i much prefer blacks to greens…so that’s likely part of it..)

Stephanie

I’ve tried a few and I’ve reaaallly liked them. I don’t think I’ve ever had a “dark” one like this though. I tend to prefer green teas but I like blacks as well.

Terri HarpLady

I enjoy a good oolong here & there. I used to really LOVE the floral green ones, but these days I tend more towards the sweet roasty ones. I still prefer black tea over everything else though

Butiki Teas

Sil-Wow, that’s 2 of our oolongs that you like! I’m surprised!

I personally tend to favor the greener oolongs, which is probably why most of our oolong selection is on the greener side but I’m always on the lookout for a good darker oolong.

Sil

Stacy – yeppers that’s 2 that i like a a couple that “aren’t bad” hahaha

Kittenna

Sil – have you tried either of the aged tgys from Verdant?

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
