Cola Chai from Kally Tea
81

I have to say, it’s weird to drink teas that taste like cola. This tea doesn’t taste like Coke..but it totally tastes like a chai made with that generic brand cola you pick up at the grocery store hoping no one will notice that it’s not actually coke (or pepsi if that’s more up your alley). The dry aroma of this tea is COLA! it kinda tripped me out a little when i went to brew it.

Once steeped, this is a cola flavoured tea with a bit of spice going on for the chai piece of it. As it cools down, the cola starts to become more a part of the tea. I’d love to try this cold to see how it stacks up. overall, an interesting tea for sure.

Dirty Chai from Della Terra Teas

So my opinion on this one holds true. There really isn’t much to the coffee piece of this tea but it you love cinnamon hearts, this is the tea for you. Bumping up the rating a bit as it appeals more to me today than previously. It might be the result of adding a bit extra leaf to this one.

Saveur de Paris from Della Terra Teas

soooooo i’m pretty sure me and bergamot, we’re not friends gah! I am so not a fan of this tea… nothing about this appeals to me. it’s got a weird after taste, it’s got way too much bergamot taste to it… yeah. my other half tried it for me and he got up and spat it out. so yeah. sorry to those that enjoyed this but it’s not for me :)

See previous tasting notes. Still a decent cup of tea but I think i’m done with it. In that it never calls out to me anymore when i open my tea cupboard. just tells me it doesn’t have longevity in terms of the taste for me. It was good while it lasted, though now i have part of a bag still left. bah.

Dragonwell Style Laoshan Green from Verdant Tea
80

this was a sample from my last verdant order and i figured i’d try this out since next weekend there are a few people coming over to have tea who i KNOW are much more appreciative of green tea than i am. I figure if i don’t like this, i can pass it to a happier home.

I love the idea of green teas….but most of the time they’re too light and vegetal for me. This tea smells “green” before adding water to it. However, when adding the water to the leaves (I brewed this western style) there’s almost a sweetness to the aroma.

The first sips of this aren’t vegetal at all. Instead they are more on the sweet side, like drops of honey that have been diluted. There’s no astringency and this is quite tasty. It’s nothing that i NEED to have or want to always have around, but i think i could enjoy a cup (or two) of this from time to time. I’ll have to see how the re-steeps change things.

Edit: Resteeps, the tea starts to lose the honey, sweet notes and becomes more floral.

having another cup (or more with the re-steeps depending on how you look at it) because after the previous tea i needed a non fruity black tea. The more i have this one, the more it’s growing on me. Or maybe that it’s a lot more of what i wanted in contrast to the previous tea. :)

Finest Russian Caravan (TB70) from Upton Tea Imports
78

When i picked this one, I actually thought it would be a smokey tea for whatever reason. This tea has no smokiness to it. There’s actually almost a fruity taste happening here which confuses me often in straight blacks :) it’s not malty…to me this is a sweet black with some sort of taste to it that makes my mouth feel full. so maybe i’m having a weird morning haha

Breakfast Smoothie Honeybush from 52teas

first tea of the morning – cold brewed this yesterday to try as a cold tea first since most of the reviews have said the flavours really come out as it cools.

I’m not sure how i feel about this one over all. It smells like that banana medicine you used to get as a kid. The first sips of this are…intresting. there’s a lot going on that i can’t place. it’s a fruity, banana-y mess of flavours. i’ll have to try this hot to see if i like it better that way. cold is just kind of…weird?

Backlog from yesterday

I quite enjoyed this cup as the yunnan helped cut the astringency of the asaam. There’s a bit of smokiness to this tea but it’s not the dominant flavour. Instead it’s more at the tail end of the malty spice like black.

Toffee and Cream from Kally Tea
77

backlog from yesterday evening. One of two teas i took with me for boardgame afternoon :)
This time the flavour was much more to my liking. I think it’s kind of like della terra in that a little extra leaf goes a long way for me. I quite enjoyed the creamy sweetness of this one!

Belgium Chocolate Matcha from Red Leaf Tea

Sakhira Estate Nepal SFTGFOP1 Tippy(TM54) from Upton Tea Imports
78

mmmmm finally caught up on my tasting notes lol having this before we need to get ready to head out for board game saturday! Hopefully to be followed by sipdown sunday heh. I quite like this one though there’s a hint of something in it that takes away from the delicious tea base. I’m guessing it’s the muscatel? I’m not picking up any astringency in this one so that’s nice. Overall not a bad cup!

Tippy Orthodox GFOP Assam (TA40) from Upton Tea Imports

Had this in the morning and it was an ok cup. I may have steeped it a little long or had too much leaf so i’ll need to give it another shot. Perhaps with a bit of milk/cream in it. It was a bit bitter for my tastes.

Honeybush Raspberry from Steeped and Infused

SIPDOWN!

I had this this morning while try to get the dishes done from last night. As i suspected, this is a really nice COLD brew tea. I much prefer it that way over hot. I think this would be pretty darn good in the summer. I may pick some up then to try that out. maybe with a splash of lemonade :)

Shared this with a friend last night – it was her first time seeing all my tea and man she was overwhelmed! it made me giggle just a bit. opened up this one for her to try and it was as delicious as i remember it being the last time!

TT18: Formosa Oolong Choicest from Upton Tea Imports

backlog!

I had this last night while friends were over. It’s an average cup of tea, nothing to write home about but it was a nice complement to the meal we had. I’d drink this again but it doesn’t need to be a staple in the house. I’m happy to have tried it though.

Lemon Chiffon from Della Terra Teas
77

Backlog!

Cold brew from yesterday and man this was tasty! It really like this tea brewed cold, though hot isn’t so bad either :) I like the way it’s like a creamy lemon cup of delicious but not overly sweet. It’s not a lemon tea..but really, it’s lemon chiffon :)

Backlog

Another one from yesterday that I didn’t get a chance to take notes on. I do recall this being a very mellow tasting tea that didn’t necessarily smack me in the face but was quite tasty. Rating later once i try it again.

Mélange de Chamonix (TE94) from Upton Tea Imports
65

Backlog!

The problem with work being busy is that I don’t have time to log things tight away and then forget what the tea was like, especially if it’s a new one. :( From what i recall of this one it was enjoyable but not mind blowing. I’ll leave off rating this one until i have a chance to drink it again and write a log right away.

Blueberry Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
77

Today’s morning smoothie which was finished soooo long ago is brought to you by blueberry! (and caramel). I am really digging the blueberry matcha when I mix it up with other flavours like caramel or cheesecake or vanilla etc. Something about adding a splash of the other matcha flavours to the blueberry makes it explode! woot!

Black Tea Wild Berry from Upton Tea Imports

So I have to say, nothing says YES PLEASE! Like a cup of cold brewed tea after a work out. It’s one thing to have water while i’m working out, but i really like getting to come home and pull whatever i’m cold brewing out of the fridge to have as an official end to my gym time.

This one is better cold than hot in my opinion :) I’ll have to remember that in the summer

French Vanilla Bean from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
76

I received this sample from the Persimmon Tree today and figured I’d get right down to business with checking it out. I love a good black and rather enjoy vanilla teas as well these days!

I steeped this one for 4 mins – and there is no real sense of the coconut in this one which makes me a happy camper. Instead what develops as I sip this one is a black tea with a subtle vanilla flavour to it. This is not a vanilla tea, rather is it a black tea with vanilla notes to it. I quite enjoy that change as I’m used to OMG vanilla teas that lose the actual taste of the tea.

In other news…I’m trying this whole blogging thing out. I’m TRYING to get around to writing something every day, though that’s certainly not really happening yet. someday though…someday. I might even manage to figure out where i’m going with it.

Earl of Anxi from Verdant Tea

SIPDOWN!

(and man do i need some of those…) My verdant orders arrived tonight and as a result, all the hard work i was doing to get my cupboard under control before the girls descend upon my house next weekend is all out the window. BUT in the spirit of those orders I figured that I might as well finish off this sample that’s been hanging out in my house for a little bit.

I still don’t love this blend. There’s something in it that makes me unhappy. Later steeps are a bit tastier but still nothing i need to order again. Still always love trying verdant’s new blends :)

Chocolate Mint Flavored Black Tea from 52teas
82

I finally got around to trying this one and it’s not bad. I’m still not convinced I’ll ever find the perfect mint chocolate black but i’ve found a few close ones. This one is pretty good. the chocolate is mild and then strong and the mint doesn’t over power. I think what i like best is that this is part of frank’s permanent collection so if i can’t fine a suitable OMG THIS IS AWESOME mint chocolate, then this will do in a pinch. It’s certainly much less “artificial” than david’s tea’s red my lips, which i really loved when i first started drinking tea and now comes across as artificial and kinda meh.

Bio

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
