7437 Tasting Notes

I’ve been sipping on this puerh all morning and in light of the fact that i can’t get it anymore, i didn’t take super detailed notes. dexter sent this one my way and i’m always happy to try out more shou’s. this one had an earthy aroma initially but it lessens over the steepings and takes on a more subtle taste. The brew is smooth and extremely pleasant.

Stephanie

I had a REALLY nice shou sample from Jalam before…forget which one it was but it had lots of nice dried fruit notes. Prune and raisin.

Sil

yeah i have a few more samples from them that i’m looking forward to trying out thanks to dexter

Chocolate, caramel, toffee, cereal..what’s not to love? Pretty sure this is more oolong than black tea, or a blend since it always does much better at lower temps, but i seem to have that figured out. I like the spice/cereal notes in this one that blend with the chocolate and caramel. it’s more bready like than caramel chocolate but it’s still delicious

noms! sipdown weekend go! sad to see this go but it’s from a CANADIAN company AND they’re here in toronto…sooo i can get more anytime :)

VariaTEA

I say this too but I find I am usually quicker to order tea than I am to go to Queen to get more Tealish lol

Sil

hahaha same…but given the state of the dollar, here’s hoping.

OMGsrsly

But Tealish is near-ish the JAMMY JAM store!

Christina / BooksandTea

You can also get a bunch of Tealish teas from Chapters/Indigo.

tigress_al

Yay for a Canadian company! I have never had any Tealish, but I will certainly check them out. Canadian companies will be getting more of my business with the crappy dollar. :) what other companies should I check out?

OMGsrsly

Camellia Sinensis!

Sil

christina – yeah chatpers, but larger sizes. If i make the trip i can get 50g :)

Sil

tigress – we can report back after the toronto tea festival as well if there are new companies worth checking out heh

tigress_al

Thanks OMG and Sil! I will also check out chapters!!!

OMGsrsly

Chapters still carries some H&S! Tea bags, not loose, but it’s sometimes nice to be able to just pick it up instead of ordering.

Christina / BooksandTea

Sil: When I last went to the Tealish store on Queen West, they still made me by a minimum of 50g, even if it was loose-leaf. Did they do smaller amounts before?

Tigress_al: There’s also Wymm Tea if you want to try pu’erh, Murchie’s if you want some robust black blends, and Algonguin Tea Company if you want some unusual, Canadian-grown herbals.

Sil

@christina – no I was being unclear. Chapters is usually 100g. Thé store lets me get 50g

Evol Ving Ness

Heads up, people. The last time I passed by Tealish on Queen, it was boarded up and gone. It is now on Ronces. 367 Ronces.

Sil

yeah they were moving in september or something. but i had forgotten, so thanks haha

Evol Ving Ness

Of course, you’ll probably want to get down to 75 before you venture over there, but at your pace, that’ll probably happen by mid-February or so. :)

Sil

lol hardly…i figure it’ll take me until at least july…

Evol Ving Ness

I need to pick up the pace myself. And that’s without the trip to Paris.

This is going to be an interesting weekend. Release weekend means i’m up a whole lot, and will be drinking up teas. I’m going to try and get through some of the teas that aren’t in my cupboard (teaguyteas!) as well as some of my puerh samples. Started off this morning with a jin jun mei from dexter and i’ll probably try and get to a few more from her today/this weekend so i can get the teas not in my cupboard sipped down so i can work on my January goals for the next 2 weeks. :) enjoying this one so i might slowly be coming over to the jin jun mei side haha

Stephanie

jin jun mei are usually pretty tasty!

Sil

i haven’t loved most of them previously, so maybe my tastebuds are adjusting :)

Nicole

Well, I have some I can send eventually. But I won’t derail your progress just yet. :)

Sil

haha 120 by end of january!

drank Cranberry Orange Cider by 52teas
7437 tasting notes

probably my favourite of the holidays teas this year from 52 teas, though before trying them, i would have sworn it would be the peppermint hot chocolate one. Something about the orange of this one and the addition of spices. I could do without the cranberry, but they do add to the blend, rounding things out nicely. I still need to try this one cold brewed though, so i should do that sooner rather than later!

Christina / BooksandTea

I was pretty much the same. I thought my favourite would be the peppermint chocolate, but this was divine. I bought another 2 oz in their holiday sale before Christmas.

Evol Ving Ness

Me too! But no, I couldn’t do without the cranberries. For me, they totally make this.

Another tea from today – i really enjoy this one from August Uncommon. That’s not to say that i don’t love their other teas, but this one is very much malt and library with a little dab of chocolate. the caraway isn’t extreme with this one, so its a well balanced cup of tea in my opinon, even if it isn’t as rich and indulgent as passage du desir. Still a fan of this one, and glad i picked up a tin!

TeaTiff

Love this one!

i think i forgot to add this to the boxes that went out to omg and dexter (and terri but i’ve already started a second box for her…) That’s sad as i think that this would be enjoyed by them but might just get finished up before i get around to another package. Unless…. mwahahaha ok so anyway, i digress. I am enjoying this one a bunch. It’s a rather decent every day black tea with just a little bit of special to make it a little more than that lol. I don’t really know what else to say that hasn’t been said before heh. Noms.

drank Hibiscus Rooibos by Rishi Tea
7437 tasting notes

nope. NOPE. nope. this is weird. I thought it wouldn’t be too bad, but there’s something in here (omg says licorice) that makes this sweet and weird tasting. it starts out as a decent sort of herbal, hibby blend and then it’s just…nope. something about it just turns the blend for me….oh there it is. ingredient listing online says licorice root. BOOOOOOOOOO! no one seems to be able to balance it in blends these days, which is unfortunate because in small doses, i don’t mind it.

Final Count: 140

(Ingredients: Organic rooibos, organic hibiscus flowers, organic sarsaparilla root, organic lemongrass, organic rosehips, organic licorice root, natural passion fruit flavor, essential orange oil, organic orange peel, natural pineapple and mango flavors.)

OMGsrsly

LOL. I ended up sniffing this and THROWING IT ALL OUT after I sent your box… I just can’t do it.

drank Hibiscus Berry by Rishi Tea

one from omgsrsly that i don’t mind. I like hibby, and this one is sort of like a blueberry hibby blend, that isn’t really blueberry like at all. lol. I know, not terribly helpful but it’s an almost muted sort of blend when you factor in how much hibiscus is in it, and that makes it interesting and enjoyable for me in a different sort of way than your typical hibby blend.

OMGsrsly

Did you cold brew or have it hot?

Sil

hot hot hot

OMGsrsly

Huh. I haven’t tried that yet.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
