Organic Tie Guan Yin “Iron Goddess” Oolong Tea with honey (Ti Kuan Yin) from Teavivre
78

Well anyone who follows me know by now that oolongs and I don’t generally get along. That being said, it’s been a while since i’ve had a straight oolong and this was my random teavivre tea for today! My first infusion was about 2 mins long and my first sip was not a happy place. I let it sit for a while and not that it’s cooled off it’s much nicer. It’s not as vegetal as i thought it would be, which is a plus in my books :)

It’s still an oolong, so it will never be my favourite but this is probably the closest i’ve come to enjoying a non roasted oolong. That distinctive oolong taste is still present, but it’s muted – possibly by the honey. There’s a sweetness present that is tasty.

After several steeps of this, i can at least admit that this was a much more pleasant oolong experience than some of my past tastings. Has it changed the way i feel about green oolongs? not really :) BUT i wouldn’t turn this away if someone offered me a cup. So overall i’d call this a success.

Kenya Black OP Malaika from Simpson & Vail

Sipdown! Once again thank you nicole for this sample. I steeped this one longer than the recommended time and it was a much tastier bolder cup of tea without picking up any more astringency. Nothing i need to keep around in my permanent collection but i wouldn’t turn down a cup/samples of this in the future.

Apricot from Harney & Sons
77

Cold brew of this one from the last bit of my sample. I have to say at this moment in time, i prefer this cold brewed. I enjoy it hot, but the cold brew seems to mute the apricot a little turning it into a smoother flavour. Thanks again to Nicole for sending this my way!

Sweet Sin from Joy's Teaspoon
71

Sipdown!

Soooo re-evaluating this tea. AFter being sick at the beginning of december..this now reminds me of cherry cough syrup. Though i guess that would be raspberry cough syrup. dropping the rating a bit since i am not in love with it and not crazy about it so much atm.

Blackberry Bramble from Della Terra Teas
67

yeah…think i’m going to have to stick with my plan to try this cold. While it’s not a BAD tea…the flavour is just kind of in the middle without a real discernible strong taste one way or the other. I wouldn’t turn my nose at a cup of this again…but i don’t think i’d order it again either if i was looking for a fruity tea.

Sweet Almond Cake from Steeped and Infused
78

Totally hard to believe this is a herbal infusion. It’s a damn fine tasty cup of almond cake. I could really see keeping this one around for when I need a hit of sweet cakes almond goodness. Especially since it’s a herbal infusion. Mmmmmm so tasty. Only down side? Th bright red colour of the tea totally messes with me since its almondey and cakes lol

Eight Candles from Della Terra Teas
80

Sip down! So yeah this is a tasty tea but its still not something I need to keep in my cupboard all the time. Instead I’m happy to order it from time to time to satisfy my need for marshmellowy goodness but I don’t need this all the time. It’s been a good tea to try.

Ceylon Star from DAVIDsTEA
69

So i may have taken a 3 hour break from work to go out with my other half as it’s a SUPER quiet day and he has today off. Had some of this while we were out. While it’s not a bad cup, i am still not a fan of that consistent taste that most of david’s tea flavoured teas seem to have. i wonder if it’s stevia. Who knows. so not a bad cup but i still don’t feel the need to keep an david’s tea in the house! :)

Creamy Caramel Oolong from Steeped and Infused
80

woah man…so even though i knew this was the tea in my travel mug i was NOT expecting the creamy caramel that dropped into my mouth. Holy…this tea is…creamy..and caramel and sweet and yes it’s an oolong tea, but apparently flavoured oolongs don’t bother me nearly as much as plain old green oolongs. Roasted oolongs seem to be ok as well..but i digress.

This is a pretty damn tasty cup of tea if you’re looking for that caramel taste.

Golden Monkey Black Tea from Teavivre
88

Teavivre random tea of the day! this one smells delicious in unsteeped form. I’m always on the lookout for a reasonably priced strong delicious black so I’m happy to try this one!

The initial taste of this one is…smokey? Weird I think my tastebuds need a reset lol I know it’s not even 9…well it’s nearly 9 but man a small piece of maple fudge with this tea and i’m in heaven!

Once that’s all cleared up, this is a nice rich malty tea that I can absolutely see myself restocking as an every day black to have with some of my other favorites. I don’t get the sweet potato flavour that others have mentioned but it’s delicious and yummy!

Cookies & Cream Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
75

Wheee! Yes I’m awake Teaqualsbliss! I just got distracted by the shiny things at work :) Today’s morning matcha is brought to you by the word cookie and the texture cream. I’m nearly done this one so it’s likely that I’ll try and have it over the next few days to continue my super sipdown! I even brought a few teas to work with me since i suspect today will be a REALLY boring day (so excitement steepsterites!) since most of the world is home today.

Anyway, as usual this is a creamy cookie delight. I really do love my morning smoothies from red leaf!

Lapacho Pear Cream from Steeped and Infused
85

soooo comparing this with the other tea… man this one is even better! It’s more true to pear taste, though i have to say the smell leaves something to be desired. I’ll have to try this with a little cream at some point just to see what it’s like. this is pretty decent….yep.

Pear Cream from Steeped and Infused
80

oh man… this is totally delicious. Smells like pear…. tastes like pear. yeah i can get behind this one. I have another pear tea from the same company that i’m in the middle of steeping so that I can compare the two. I really think this would be totally delicious as an iced tea as well. There’s a bit of a tang before the creamy pear flavour kicks in but once it does it’s a pretty delicious cup of tea. The pear might be a little artificial but not in the way that makes you cringe from the fakeness of it.

Black-n-Blue from SerendipiTea
89

Totally just had a hot brew of this tonight to finish it off! Operation sipdown! GO GO GO! I’m going to miss this one as it’s one of my fav blueberry teas so far. We’ll see if i manage to find another that compares before i get around to placing an order with this company haha

Coconut Baozhong from Queen Mary
65

wheeeee coconut! thanks for letting me try this nicole i’ll find a good coconut loving home for this one! lol (looking at kittenna)

Apricot from Harney & Sons
77

mmmmm apricot goodness tonight! Putting the last of this sample in to cold brew for tomorrow to see how this is cold brewed! :)

Kenya Black OP Malaika from Simpson & Vail
80

mmmm sip sip sipping through my tea! lol having a good time tonight drinking a few teas and trying to sort out the next few that i’ll work on sipping down (ie that i’v been hoarding with 1-2 cups left…)

Black-n-Blue from SerendipiTea
89

Sooooo grey goose vodka + this tea = blueberry vodka! Perfect when mixed with other such delicious juices like cranberry! Raspberry! sprite! you get the picture… I made a batch of this and man is it delicious! YAY for holiday blue drinks :)

Maple Pecan Oolong from Butiki Teas
92

SIPDOWN! Finished this one off after a long boring day at work and a quick trip to to pick up my other half. home now and settling in to try and spend a relaxing evening doing a few things and sipping a few teas. I’ll have to pay more attention to the bag i pick this up again from stacy. There was a bunch of flavouring at the bottom of the bag that i just dumped into the cup….needless to say HOLY HELLO LAST CUP!

if you like maple…and pecans…go try this tea. even if you aren’t a fan of oolong lol it’s delightful!

Caramel Pumpkin Cheesecake from 52teas
82

mmmm still thinking about picking up another bag of this even though i have 1.5 at home right now. I probably won’t as dear god I have an abundance of tea at the moment. However, this is a pretty darn tasty blend. I especially enjoy it because it’s not a sweet blend exactly. There’s the pumpkin spice and the black base that has hints of cheesecake and caramel..but it’s not sweet. That makes me a happy camper as I find SOME of frank’s blends to be a little on the sweet side. This way I can always add sweetner if i’m desperate for a bit more sweetness :)

Bailin Gongfu Black Tea from Teavivre
90

So a while back I placed an order with teavivre and I have to say their customer service was pretty awesome, or at least unexpected. They actually emailed me because they were tracking my package and let me know the post office had said they’d tried to deliver. Now, unbeknowest to them, the post office here is riduculous and hadn’t but at least i was able to get right on the post office about where my order was.

Anyway, i digress. Since I need to get my cupboard under control, I’ve got to start drinking some of the tea samples from teavivre! I figure I can drink at least one a day which will get me through the first half of the samples i picked up (love that the samples come in 2 little packs instead of one big one!).

This was the random tea i grabbed this morning from the bunch..it’s like a grab back of delicious excitement waiting to happen! I have to say, this one is pretty darn tasty. I’ll be doing re-steeps tonight when i get home but this first brew is one I can see keeping around for one of my morning blacks. I’d put this one up there with my taiwanese assam from butiki and laoshan black from verdant. I’m sure there will be others but those are my favs at the moment.

This is a nice smooth black, that has a malty taste to it without being as intense as say, laoshan black. There’s a hint of caramel at teh end of the sip but it’s not overly pronounced. mmmm this is a really nice start to the morning.

English Toffee Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
75

Goodbye dear english toffee matcha. You have been a delight to drink in the mornings :) I would buy this again, though i don’t think it will have a permanent place in my home for the sheer sake that I’m finding myself drawn to fruit matcha in summer and more coffee/mocha type matcha in winter. English toffee is a treat that I’ll have once in a while when i want to revist an old friend.

Cotton Candy Black Tea from 52teas
73

tried this tonight, even though i know better and normally leave franks teas to sit for a few weeks to settle in. Just really wanted to get a sense as to whether i WILL enjoy it or not. I’m leaning towards enjoying it as a fun cup to drink occasionally, but time will tell once this has had a chance to really settle. :)

Apricot from Harney & Sons
77

mmm had this tonight with dinner. a nice tasty dessert tea to go with dinner! Still really enjoy this though i might be off of apricot for a while.

Bio

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
