backlog from yesterday

this one one of the teas i took with me out to do more wedding dress shopping. We went to the worlds tiniest place that had the worlds biggest selection and seemingly the best prices for a brick and mortar store. Their most expensive dress was 2k, which is still more than i ever want to pay, but at least it gave me reassurance i wouldn’t fall in love with something ridiculous like 10k.

This tea was wonderfully calming – i needed it after dress #15…..and more. lol Glad that LB is almost back…

admittedly i probably should have brewed this gong fu style but i just don’t have the patience today to do so. So i opted for stacy’s other recommendation for a longer steep.

Let me tell you, courtney should stay away from this one. lol while the other stacy tea i had was fruity, this came out of the bag and i was like WOOD! SMOKE! WOOD! forest? lol It has a VERY strong smell but to me, it’s the sort of smell that evokes memories of being up in the mountains, cross country skiing and coming back to the lodge….or camping in the fall. i love it! I also want more. I prefer this one to stacy’s 2009 Banchang that i also tried, though i did enjoy that one. This just screams winter, maple, relaxing in the sun as the day grows longer to me.

This is not an overly in your face tea though. It’s very smooth and mild in it’s deliciousness. I’m not sure i’d call the after taste sweet, but there is no bitterness here or jarring notes to interrupt the flow of this one. i think stephanie’s tastnig note really captures the essence of this tea and i’m looking forward to buying more and having a few gong fu sessions with it…but western brewed? so doable and really a great start to my day. thank you for finding this one Stacy!

I have a bit of this one, which I’m looking forward to sampling once my sipdown extravaganza is over.

TheTeaFairy

Mmmmmm….

Sil

I resteeped the leaves again this morning and it’s still delicious..even as a western brew so i am a huge fan!

hmmm first tasting note and i am SO not in the right frame of mind to be doing this. I wanted to try this one because stacy’s notes mention that “This rare varietal is a cross between wild Assamica and Keemun.” I tend to really enjoy both keemuns and assams so what the heck!

taking this out of the bag it was like WOAH! FRUIT! a sharp contrast to the 1989 Suncha i had just opened as well lol brewing this up, my first sips where very reminiscent of a taiwanese assam but not. There are fruity honey, sweet apricot sort of notes here, but then there’s a secondary taste which keeps this from being too sweet and too much like some of the teas from TTC that i like occasionally. teh after taste in my mouth from this one reminds me a bit of raisins and barley…not really a “malty” tea but there’s a memory there of malt.

over all, i’ll likely pick up more of this in the future to try out some more – maybe a gaiwan session, as today i just went with western brew.

Terri HarpLady

Another one I need to pull out of the ‘new tea’ pile & sample

Sil

cavo and i split a bunch of the .5oz teas just to try them out so we can figure out what we want to order in July…so i’m trying to drink them sooner than i normally would lol

couple more evenings of this and it will all be gone! I am loving this one still, which makes me a happy happy camper that i haven’t gotten sick of it. I just wish it worked as well in milk as i wanted it to…lol

Final Count: 122 (maybe i can get to 115 before the mad influx of tea happens! then i could pretend i made it to my goal this month lol)

VariaTEA

Do you want me to share? I have about 4 oz

Sil

Lol I can buy some in the future silly goose.

VariaTEA

Just figured I would offer :).

Cavocorax

Ooh – VariaTEA – can I try a cup or so? I wouldn’t ask but if you have 4 oz… :P I’ve got Special Dark to trade for it!

VariaTEA

Of course!! I have a couple of teas to drop off to you anyways so it is no problem to just add some of this to the mix as well :). I was actually thinking of adding some samples to what I was bringing you anyways now that I have little bags and labels again

poof all gone! extra delicious cup of this today to end the week. we ARE moving, and we DO have to prep everything, move, plan out the internet etc…all in a week. the same week in which i have even more massive amounts of work to do AND my parents are coming to visit. lol good times!

Christina

Ouch. That sounds frenetic.

OMGsrsly

You can do it!

Sil

…..and this weekend I’m losing it for wedding dress shopping and crap lol

Christina

Sounds like you’ll need to drink some mate to keep up the pace!

Sil

Ew….no wai lol I hate mate hahaha

Terri HarpLady

I am never moving again! Well…not unless Tony & I finally decide to move in together someday :) my advice is start packing now. Box up everything you don’t need & give it away, lol. Pick out a few clothes to wear this week, & box up the rest of them. Do the same with dishes, etc.

Terri HarpLady

OR you can do like I did last time, & stay awake for 3 days in a row, frantically boxing, pitching, donating, etc. it was 13 years ago & I still haven’t found everything, there are still unopened boxes in my basement :/

OMGsrsly

Terri, that second one sounds like how I move. The first is how my mom and BFF move. It’s truly a much better option!

Terri HarpLady

LOL, the first example is how I, or should I say Ms Theresa, imagines that it’s going to go, hahaha. It never goes that way.

Sil

given that we’re moving uh across a back lane to another building in the same complex…i fore see a lot of NO boxes and much hand carrying lol

OMGsrsly

I’ve done that too, Sil! A wagon or wheelie cart of some sort makes it so much easier…

Cavocorax

Or plastic tubs to put stuff in and dump them out? I did that before and it made everything easier.

hahahaha that was short lived! thanks for the pick me up courtney. I busted this out again today after looking at my calender and realising the sort of day it was going to be. I really appreciate the warm fuzzies from this one :)

Terri HarpLady

Did the BBBB arrive yet? ;)

Sil

No :( I can’t remember how many days ago you sent it though, so not sure yet if it’s concerning or not. It usually takes 10 business days….and Monday was a holiday for us…

Terri HarpLady

Hahaha, I mailed it last week on fri

another one of those teas from verdant that i loved just a little better the first time i had it. I’m actually hoping on that note, that they revert back to the other version on laoshan village chai. i’m not nearly as much a fan of the winter formulation either. I had this today and it was just the right blend of spicy to keep me going in the early morning. I’ll be sad when this is gone, but may wait for the next batch before restocking!

drank Zhu Rong Yunnan Black by Verdant Tea

given that i have another uh…4oz of this coming my way, i REALLY need to finish up the other 2 batches of this tea i have in the house lol. So i’m trying to drink this a little more often. I had this way early today and while it’s still enjoyable, it seems just a little different from the first batch i had and fell in love with. We’ll see how the next round goes when it gets here!

whatshesaid

Is it comparable to LB?

OMGsrsly

I like it loads more than LB, but then LB tastes like dirt to me. :D

Sil

Totally different teas IMO. They both have a place in my cupboard :) not helpful I know but they are both delicious.

whatshesaid

Fair enough :)

Terri HarpLady

I agree that the zhu rong I have right now is not the same as the zhu rong I had last year.
…sigh…
I guess really that’s the way it is…every batch will be a little different…

I pulled this one out today because i feel like i haven’t had it in a while. I really do love Yezi’s black tea offerings, and some of their puerhs have been really nice as well. I just need to remember not to buy so much in one go so that i have an excuse to place more frequent orders lol.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
