4726 Tasting Notes
backlog from yesterday
this one one of the teas i took with me out to do more wedding dress shopping. We went to the worlds tiniest place that had the worlds biggest selection and seemingly the best prices for a brick and mortar store. Their most expensive dress was 2k, which is still more than i ever want to pay, but at least it gave me reassurance i wouldn’t fall in love with something ridiculous like 10k.
This tea was wonderfully calming – i needed it after dress #15…..and more. lol Glad that LB is almost back…
admittedly i probably should have brewed this gong fu style but i just don’t have the patience today to do so. So i opted for stacy’s other recommendation for a longer steep.
Let me tell you, courtney should stay away from this one. lol while the other stacy tea i had was fruity, this came out of the bag and i was like WOOD! SMOKE! WOOD! forest? lol It has a VERY strong smell but to me, it’s the sort of smell that evokes memories of being up in the mountains, cross country skiing and coming back to the lodge….or camping in the fall. i love it! I also want more. I prefer this one to stacy’s 2009 Banchang that i also tried, though i did enjoy that one. This just screams winter, maple, relaxing in the sun as the day grows longer to me.
This is not an overly in your face tea though. It’s very smooth and mild in it’s deliciousness. I’m not sure i’d call the after taste sweet, but there is no bitterness here or jarring notes to interrupt the flow of this one. i think stephanie’s tastnig note really captures the essence of this tea and i’m looking forward to buying more and having a few gong fu sessions with it…but western brewed? so doable and really a great start to my day. thank you for finding this one Stacy!
hmmm first tasting note and i am SO not in the right frame of mind to be doing this. I wanted to try this one because stacy’s notes mention that “This rare varietal is a cross between wild Assamica and Keemun.” I tend to really enjoy both keemuns and assams so what the heck!
taking this out of the bag it was like WOAH! FRUIT! a sharp contrast to the 1989 Suncha i had just opened as well lol brewing this up, my first sips where very reminiscent of a taiwanese assam but not. There are fruity honey, sweet apricot sort of notes here, but then there’s a secondary taste which keeps this from being too sweet and too much like some of the teas from TTC that i like occasionally. teh after taste in my mouth from this one reminds me a bit of raisins and barley…not really a “malty” tea but there’s a memory there of malt.
over all, i’ll likely pick up more of this in the future to try out some more – maybe a gaiwan session, as today i just went with western brew.
couple more evenings of this and it will all be gone! I am loving this one still, which makes me a happy happy camper that i haven’t gotten sick of it. I just wish it worked as well in milk as i wanted it to…lol
Final Count: 122 (maybe i can get to 115 before the mad influx of tea happens! then i could pretend i made it to my goal this month lol)
another one of those teas from verdant that i loved just a little better the first time i had it. I’m actually hoping on that note, that they revert back to the other version on laoshan village chai. i’m not nearly as much a fan of the winter formulation either. I had this today and it was just the right blend of spicy to keep me going in the early morning. I’ll be sad when this is gone, but may wait for the next batch before restocking!
given that i have another uh…4oz of this coming my way, i REALLY need to finish up the other 2 batches of this tea i have in the house lol. So i’m trying to drink this a little more often. I had this way early today and while it’s still enjoyable, it seems just a little different from the first batch i had and fell in love with. We’ll see how the next round goes when it gets here!
