1780 Tasting Notes

Piña Colada from PureAromaTea
86

So I figured that I’d try this one out as a cold brew since as a hot brew it was quite delicious. As a cold brew this is nearly as tasty! I say nearly because the coconut overpowers the pineapple a little more in the cold brew. Th pineapple is still there but the balance is just a little more off than the hot brew. I think this would make a fantastic cocktail if there is? Sch a thing as pineapple liquor to add to this cold brew. Either that or maybe a splash of lime….lemon? Not sure yet. Either way this is a really nice blend :)

Mango Sunrise from Yumchaa
67

Thank you hallieod for this one! This isn’t half bad. I want to try this as a cold brew since that’s part of why I wanted to try it. As a hot brew this is a decent green tea. The mango flavouring isn’t artificial, but it is a little light. Glad to see this one, and looking forward to the next attempt as a cold brew! :)

Héritage Gourmand - Macaron from Mariage Frères

I haven’t yet decided how I feel about this one. Thank you Shmiracles for this one! I’m going to refrain from rating this one, because I got busy and was unable to really take notes. I know that mousse au chocolat is still my favourite of the two but that’s as far as I can recall. This one impressed me less but it wasn’t bad at all!

Premium Taiwanese Assam from Butiki Teas

Sometimes you just need an old favourite. This morning was one of those days. I had let the wonder of this tea become a mere shadow of its true deliciousness. I’m glad I dug this out earlier…just needed a reminder of how much I love it!

Keemun Mao Feng from The London Tea Room

Sipdown! Had a cup of this in the morning before leaving the house. Another fine keemun shared by terri! :)

Héritage Gourmand - Mousse au Chocolat from Mariage Frères

shmiracles! I will have your little tea babies for this one :) i think there IS magic in this box after all.

So part of the reason i REALLY wanted to try this tea is that there’s an ongoing joke in my family about mousse au chocolat. My grandmere? She was from belgium and back in the day was one of the few woman in her day to train at le cordon bleu. It was there that she learned to make mousse au chocolat. As the story goes, she taught my dad to cook and shared with him the family recipe for mousse au chocolat. My entire life i have heard about my grandmere and her famous mousse au chocolat. Which my dad promised me when i was about 7, he would teach me to make…which he has never made in his life for us…which he still has not taught me how to make. And folks? i LOOOOOVVVEEEEE real mousse au chocolat…not to be confused with “chocolate mousse,” that they often serve in restaurants here in canada…which never seems as delicious as it ought to be…as the mousse au chocolat that i’ve had in france.

So when i found out about this tea via shmiracles, i had to try it AND coicidentally my parents were in Paris at the time. So my dad got an email from me: If you can manage it, i’d love for you to pick up this tea while you’re in Paris. I figure it’s the least you can do since you refuse to share grandmere’s recipe with me. :) All in fun of course. So now they’re back…and i suspect they found it somewhere in Paris, since i clearly challenged my father, but i won’t know until i see them again.

So for now, i’m content with this sample from Shmiracles…which is downright amazing! I lost track of steeping it..but this is delicious. It’s not sweet, it’s more like a rich dark chocolate mousse. i think with a bit of milk and sugar, this would turn into an amazing cup of chocolate goodness, but i love this the way it is. Dark and sinfully delicious.

Edit: resteep of this in the morning is also delicious!

Peaches and Cream from Sloane Tea Company

Thank you Lala! One of the wonderful teas i got in my swaps today that I had to try asap because it’s an “exclusive to chapters” for mother’s day so I needed to know if i had to get my other half to pick some up for me…because i’m not allowed to buy tea until June lol that’s no cheating…riiight?

So, some of you will know, i’m not the biggest fan of white teas. I find the vast majority of them to be too lightly flavoured for me to enjoy them. This tea though? it’s wonderful! For starters, the dry smell of this is amaaaazing! it really is candied peaches and cream as Lala mentioned.

The brewed tea? It’s creamy and peachy and delicious! I really do need to pick up…er get my other half to surprise me with this random tea as a present! lol This is one of those flavoured teas to be enjoyed and savoured. I do wonder how it would fare cold brewed….

Organic Chocolate "O" from The Tea Spot

SIPDOWN! I would totally purchase this one again! Thank you so much for sharing this with me terri! So i WAS well on my way to getting to 200 but 3 of my swaps arrived today and now i am back at 258! (with 6 more swaps on their way eventually, plus teas sitting with people) So now, my mini goal is just to try and NOT hit 300 lol. i still have every intention of getting to 200 before the end of may so that i can place an order in June but right now I’m just super happy about swaps.

Seriously? Total shout out to all my swap friends who have shared teas they love and dislike since i’ve been on steepster (not even a year). It’s pretty amazing how wonderful it is to share in our mutual excitement of tea. I love not only finding better homes for teas i don’t like, but getting to share old favourites with new friends :) Totally not really a tea posting note but oh well. this? This tea is good. Chocolatey and delicious!

…and for all those out there that i haven’t swapped with yet, looking forward to sharing teas with you!

Assam from Frontier Natural Products Co-op
74

I had this earlier today…seems like so long ago. Another swap from Terriharplady that was quite delicious! While not my favourite assam, it’s certainly one i wouldn’t turn down! I’m just not in love with it like i am with steven…er i mean #49 :)

No. 49 Assam FTGFOP1 from Steven Smith Teamaker
92

SIPDOWN! Yeah that’s right. No hoarding! So i had this today while getting ready for work, something i normally don’t indulge in. Lookingforward to June when i can pick up more of this as it’s a really nice assam. Of course that depends on whether or not I can get my cupboard to amanageable state by June as well. I’ve got something waiting for me at the post office today AND if my tea mule is at work today, that’s my three orders from May that have arrived. Not to mention the tea with Raritea and Kittenna lol Ah well…at least i’m sort of hovering at the 200 mark (227 to be exact at the moment). We have a release weekend on saturday so i’m sure i’ll be drinking plenty of tea from 9pm until 3am. yeah that’s right… party at my place! woot woot!

Anyway, i digress…if you like assams, this tea is for sure worth picking up and trying :) Thanks again terri!

Passionfruit, Guava & Mango from PureAromaTea
76

sipdown! I shared this with a friend the other night and left myself just enough for another large sil mug of this one. I really do like this – just a delicious fruity blend to enjoy in the summer.

Caramel Cream from PureAromaTea
80

I really like this version of green caramel. I’m pretty sure it’s my favourite so far. There’s just something about it that is seriously creamy and delicious without any sort of bitterness. if i need a green caramel in my cupboard it’l be this one for sure!

Vicky's Sponge Cake from Bluebird Tea Co.
80

So i wanted to try this as a cold brew since the warm cup i had was more raspberry than sponge cake. It turns out, the cake was hiding in the cold brew :) This is a creamy cup of delicious cake like tea. I am digging this. Now i just need to try and figure out how to get this taste with a hot brew!

Chai from Red Blossom Tea Company
80

mmm had a tasty tasty cup of this in the morning with a splash of milk and sweetner. It’s warming up, so i won’t be overly inclined to drink chai moving forward, so it’s nice to be able to drink it when the urge strikes. Still enjoying the blend of these spices!

Keemun Mao Feng from The London Tea Room
74

mmmm another tasty black courtesy of Terriharplady! This is a pretty enjoyable keemun. I think, as I have more of them, i’m coming to learn that i tend to prefer assams over keemuns, though i don’t find keemuns objectionable. I like the maltiness of this particular keemun. There isn’t a lot of smoke happening in this tea, which is nice as i don’t need much of that this morning. There is some though, and it adds a nice depth to this tea. Overall a pretty decent little number!

Earl Grey De La Creme from Red Leaf Tea
69

I figured with my senses being off, i might as well taken this opportunity to try out the bergamot filled tea that Hallieod sent my way :) She did warn me that it was coming, so no harm there. Turns out, that i’m ok with earl grey cream. Mostly because to me? It tastes like lemon. Which may or not be weird. Holding off on rating this one for now until my sinuses and such clean up but so far, not a terrible cup, though still nothing i’d ever be ordering for myself :)

Vicky's Sponge Cake from Bluebird Tea Co.
80

thank you halieod for sending some of this along with our swap. Even though i’m slightly sick – ie. congested and my sense of taste is a little off, i figured that I would have a cup last night since i figured the raspberry would cut through things. I was right! This was a lovely cup of tea, though i’m sad to say that i didn’t get much in the way of “cake.” it came across as more like a raspberry tea than anything. I’m hoping that this is just because my tastebuds are off so i’ll withhold rating it until i’m better. Either way it was still a lovely cup of tea that i quite enjoyed :) I’m looking forward to trying my other samples when i get them.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake from Della Terra Teas
85

Nothing to add much on this one, see previous tasting notes. I had a travel mug of this today while running some quick errands. Have to love buy one get one free towels that are uber awesome quality :)

Peach Oolong from The London Tea Room
75

sipdown! a sil sized cup for me and a share with a friend :) Thanks terri for sending some of this my way. For an oolong? this ain’t half bad…for a peach tea, there’s a bit of an after taste here that is sitting funny in my mouth this morning. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with my sinuses being messed up, but it’s not my favourite taste. That being said though, it’s not a bad taste, just an after taste that it’s my fav. Overall this is a pretty decent tea. I like that the peach has a bit of sour too it, as if they’re slightly on the unripe side. But not enough to detract from the peach taste. thanks again terri!

The Sweet Life from PureAromaTea
81

backlog sipdown! (223, after some adds and deletions but there’s another box waiting at the post office for me….eek!)

Another tea that went off to my friend last night after sharing a cup. I don’t think i’d reorder this but not because it isn’t a lovely tea. I just don’t love the taste of marzipan so it wouldn’t be something i would need to have on hand lots. I would however pick this up now and then in the sampler size to have a few cups :)

Strawberry & Kiwi from PureAromaTea
84

backlog sipdown! I had another cup of this last night but the rest went off with a friend who is looking for more variety in her herbal teas. She’s suffering from a heart arythmia and so her doc has said no more caffeine for a bit. So she came over to raid my cupboard since she knew i’d have a bunch to toss her way lol She was pretty amazed that i have 200+ teas and they all tuck away nicely in my bookcase. I think i’ve given her some ideas lol. I quite enjoyed this tea and will likely pick some up again. :)

Starry Night from Art of Tea
74

backlog sipdown!

sooo this cup of this tea? no thanks..but the last cup was delicious. So either i had a cup with more star anise than the first one or i did something wrong this second time. I don’t think i’d stock this permanently in my cupboard as a result of having two vastly different experiences. Thank you tastybrew though for sending this my way!

Keemun from The Tea Spot
78

backlog sipdown! Had this yesterday and after all of that, this is a pretty middle of the road keemun for me. It’s not bad but it’s not exciting and different. This could be in my cupboard or not. I’m still glad to have tried it, since i wouldn’t be opposed to having it in my cupboard again :)

King Tut Lemonade from McQuarries Tea & Coffee Merchants
84

backlog and sipdown!

I tried this hot brewed yesterday and man it was super delicious! I actually think i prefer this hot or would brew it hot and then cool it down. It was super tasty and i ended up gulping it down and getting to the bottom of my giant cup way too quickly. Thanks so much for this one lala! love it! especially since it’s a herbal i can add to my list :)

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
