drank Hibiscus Berry by Rishi Tea

one from omgsrsly that i don’t mind. I like hibby, and this one is sort of like a blueberry hibby blend, that isn’t really blueberry like at all. lol. I know, not terribly helpful but it’s an almost muted sort of blend when you factor in how much hibiscus is in it, and that makes it interesting and enjoyable for me in a different sort of way than your typical hibby blend.

OMGsrsly

Did you cold brew or have it hot?

Sil

hot hot hot

OMGsrsly

Huh. I haven’t tried that yet.

ew. ok so i don’t love darjeelings much in the first place…but this, with the added flavouring is just ick. it’s got a nice aroma brewed, but taste wise this just isn’t for me, even brewed at a very low temp. it’s got a weird almost bitterness to it that makes for a rather jarring taste experience. Happy to try new teas but this one is NOT for me either. Sorry MissB/omgsrsly!

Rasseru

First flush, right? I always find them pretty tricky, Ive never had one that really wows me

Rasseru

Or rather, I probably dont know how to brew them correctly

Sil

i treat most darjeelings like green teas…this one is just…not a nice blend lol

OMGsrsly

Yeah, it was weird. Glad I got to try it though. I think I prefer specific floral green darjeelings, not flavoured ones…

Rasseru

Ha sorry if I came across in any way patronising, I was talking about my failure to get first flush up to my standards of chinese & Taiwanese. I’m going to get very anal with the temperatures to try to see what I can get. In fact im going to try now

Sil

rasseru – didn’t come across that way at all :)

drank Cardamom French Toast by DAVIDsTEA

i don’t want this tea to go away. i enjoy it straight and as a latte. i really hope this one doesn’t go away or that there’s some sort of warning before it does. I’d be willing to pick up another 50-100g of this one, which is rare for me with david’s teas.

VariaTEA

I ordered a few satchets when I placed my boxing day order so if I don’t like it, I know where to send the rest :P

Sil

it works well as a latte toooooo just sayin’

Pulled this one out again today as i wanted some puerh but wasn’t up for 10+ sessions. With this one i can do 1-3 and still feel like i’ve given the tea a chance to be. I enjoy this tea – a nice blend of shou and cocoa…as it cools, it becomes even more of a hot chocolate like cup of tea.

kristinalee

This sounds pretty good, and I’m not usually big on flavored teas. But something mixed well with chocolate sounds intriguing…

Sil

it’s more puerh than flavoured tea to me, but i seem to be in the minority a little on this one

drank Dulce De Leche by Tealish

the more i have this one, the more it reminds me of the ones from fauchon and DF but with a black base…or roasted oolong, i forget which this is lol i don’t think i need this in my cupboard for a while – maybe once i’ve finished the fancy french versions and i get a longing to have that taste again – then i might consider it. :)

OMGsrsly

This is an oolong, just not the balled green one!

OMGsrsly

I should take a pic to add.

Sil

yeah as i was writing it, i was like…pretty sure this is a roasted oolong thingy.

OMGsrsly

thingy, as in… tea? ;)

Sil

shush you

Another one from this morning. I think dexter and i got different batches of this tea. Both are tasty, but mine was a little smoother and refined…or something hahaha Either way, still nice o have this back in my cupboard again for a little while. especially since i don’t have a lot of yunnans currently in my cupboard.

kristinalee

Is this a good company, do you think?

Sil

i have enjoyed the teas that i’ve picked up from dragon tea house – haven’t heard anything bad about them but i also haven’t tried a ton of their teas.

kristinalee

Cool, I noticed they have pretty good prices.

noms. Pulled this one out today because i wanted a yunnan. After organising my cupboard yesterday, i need to get cracking on a few more of my samples so that I can feel like things are under control. I think i prefer the version of this one from Yunnan Sourcing that i’ve had before. they’re both good teas, but teh one from YS has a heavier feel in the mouth than this one – which is a little wimpy for me :)

OMGsrsly

“Under control” is an illusion.

drank Gingerbread Houjicha by 52teas
7618 tasting notes

Another one i’m drinking tonight – not in the mood for samples tonight as i’m sick and in case my taste buds aren’t quite right, i don’t want to risk it. it’s not bad, but it doesn’t really scream gingerbread to me. I’ll keep trying and playing with steeping.

Tea In Spoons

I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling sick! kristinalee suggested I follow you because she said you liked a lot of blended teas. I’m excited to read your 52tea reviews since I want to grab a few teas. Feel better!

Sil

Thanks! I pretty much drink puerh, flavoured blends (mostly black/herbal) and black straight teas. I tend not to spend much time on greens, whites, oolongs :)

Tea In Spoons

I’m finding myself favouring black/herbal and sometimes greens. So, I’m sure I’ll see lots of reviews for teas I’ll like! I also I noticed you lived in TO; I’ll be going to visit in Feb. Any good suggestion on tea places (aside from DavidsTea) to visit?

Sil

Tao Leaf Tea; Majesteas; Capital teas; Tealish; Tsaa; House of tea; Tea Emporium; Say Tea….there are a bunch :) You could also go for tea at the king edward.

Sil

Kitten and the Bear is a teeny tiny shop that does small batch jam and scones with Sloane teas as well…

Nicole

I am totally jelly of your tea options. :)

Tea In Spoons

I gave them all a quick look; I mostly want tea sampler sizes. It seems like Tao Leaf Tea, Tsaa and Tealish have samplers. If you think of more places, feel free to tell me!

Tea In Spoons

Thanks for the suggestions!

Sil

not sure that any of them really offer samplers. the downside to a lot of canadian companies.

Tea In Spoons

Tao Leaf Tea has a lot of 5g sizes for their teas. I gave Tssa a call and they had “2 cup” samplers. Tealish has prepackaged ones so, I think I will hit Tao Leaf first.

Dexter

(If I were going to Toronto – Tao Tea Leaf would be at the top of my “must go to list”)

OMGsrsly

I definitely didn’t make it to Tao Tea Leaf. Instead we went to Niagara so I could ooh and ahh about the falls and get a mug!

Dexter

@OMG – yeah but you live in a VERY good tea town – for those of us in the tea desert, making it to fun shops might have a higher priority. ;))

OMGsrsly

Heh. True! Still, we randomly walked past Tealish which was lovely. I was on a no-tea-buying spree, which didn’t really last.

Dexter

LOL It’s the no-tea-buying spree thing. That’s the danger of travel to good tea towns. If I made it to Toronto, I would also like to check out some of the Chinese Markets that yyz finds fun stuff in. We don’t even have fun markets…. :(

OMGsrsly

I needed more time! Getting sick really killed my energy. I’d definitely go back. :)

Sil

We have a spare room with a queen in it now and the computer with the single….so room for everyone!

OMGsrsly

Maybe. One day. :)

drank Appletini by Tealish
7618 tasting notes

being sick today means drinking weird teas, getting to weigh my cupboard and making a plan for 2016. January = get to 120 teas and 7025g; zero purchases (though that won’t likely happen since the tea festival is jan 31)

I don’t think i’ll pick up more of this later – it’s not bad but it also doesn’t call to me like other herbals. I’ll enjoy finishing it up but then i’ll be good.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
