5059 Tasting Notes
thank you VariaTEA i added this to some milk today, since when you’re trying to drink the world, why not throw in some matcha as well lol this one is actually pretty tasty. It’s like liquid candy cane in my cup haha. I’m sort of in the same boat as OMGsrsly – in that i’ve gone off of flavoured matcha. however, since i haven’t had any in a while this was a nice treat :)
VariaTEA is awesome and let me try all the firefly blends. i haven’t had a chance to dig most of them out of the box of fun that i have in terms of samples but since today is SIPDOWN DAY! i figured i’d start with this one…because BLERGAMOT blech River is most certainly not full of blerg. says me. because i love river…hell i love them all and this is not her. because i don’t like it lol.
this is just not only blerg like but very floral to me. I appreciate the share a ton though because firefly is awesome. and fan blends are fun!
Thanks for sharing this one variaTEA i’m going to have to side with cavo on this one. – there’s something weird going on. I can see why they refer to it having caramel notes…but the base is slightly overpowering and distracts me from things. it also doesn’t taste like maple syrup. it’s more caramel syrup than anything…oh well, good to try. :)
sooo i have to say, i’m a little happy to see that the teafairy enjoyed this tea…which gives me hope that maybe the BBB ladies will also enjoy it. I opted to include this in the BBB this round along with another Darjeeling since i’m trying to expand my horizons and try new things. what better way to try things than to force other ppl to do it with you? haha this one was ok when it was hot, but as it cooled, it turned into something i didn’t want to drink. sooo ladies, i won’t be offended if you don’t like this! haha
this came my way via the BBB Box in the grab bag from Tastybrew. Not overly excited by this one, though i was hopeful because in my head baked = roasty oolong. well GUESS WHAT! it doesn’t lol. this is a greeeeeeeen ooolong. But you know what? i am digging it! it really is a sweet oolong. there’s none of that oolong note that i don’t like. instead this is just a refreshing cup of sweet tea…it’s almost honeylike but not quite. I’m also getting a teeeeeny floral note at the back of the sip, but it’s only there is i concentrate on it – so i’m not lol. thanks for sharing girls!
another cold brew bloom from variaTEA I have to give THIS one credit for being very lychee like. The flavour is really nice, though i wish it were stronger. I did brew this one in less water than i should have to try and make the flavour a little stronger but it’s still not as punchy as i want it to be. that being said, if david’s made this into a loose tea, i could get behind it. :) thanks again variatea! these have been fun to play with :)
soooo i think i just agreed to try and get through 31 samples today – ie bring my cupboard down to 200 by the end of the day. While some may think that’s insane, i do have a LOT of one cup samples and on a normal work from home day, i get through about 10 samples that are generally 2 cups.. sooo let’s dooo this! lol of course that means beyond my LB this morning, i’m not getting any of my favourites in today…all new teas! probably.
this one? Cold brewed this and the other blooming tea from david’s that variaTEA sent me. The general theme that i seem to be finding with these teas, is that while they’re pleasant enough…they’re not strong enough or fabulously pretty enough for me to care enough about them lol. given this is peach, i also had a hard time with it as i’ve gone off of peach lately. for some reason it is no longer a happy flavour for me, but maybe that’s because i drank too many peach teas recently.
comparing this one to LB today just for funsies… dry, it looks VERY similar, curly black leaves with that aroma that says…hey! lookit me!
brewed, the aroma from the leaves takes on a bit of a taiwanese smell to it…slightly fruity but not overly so.
brewed…this time it’s less chocolatey than the first time i had it but it’s still very close to my beloved LB. i’d argue that if you were to add a bit of cacao to this, it would be nearly the same as LB with cacao. on the whole, i still can’t decide which i prefer…i suppose int he end LB would win because it’s a pretty consistent tea, while this has produced two slightly different cups for me – one being deep and dark and deliciously chocolately, and the other, fruitier than i like in an LB sort of tea. I suspect i’ll likely just end up ordering more of this in the future to give it a few more cups worth of playing with it :) thanks again YYZ for sharing this one with me….really enjoyable!
comparison day because, well i wanted to start my day with delicious. so that’s as good a reason as any.
not much to say about this one that hasn’t already been said… i have had this more than any other tea out there, and i keep on ordering it. it’s one of the few teas that i just enjoy. it’s not a blow your mind out of the water sort of tea, but it doesn’t need me to focus on it or pay attention to it…it’s consistently good even if i mess around with the tempaerature and timing, and it’s available…almost all the time. heh add a little cacao to it and it’s fantasticly delicious. it’s just my easy, delicious, tea. are there better out there? yes… but this is like home. that comforting, reliable tea that has always got your back…and i think THAT is why i love it so much.
I tried this one last night because i got it in my head that i wanted an orange tea, and i hadn’t cracked this one open yet. This tea makes me sad. It’s not orange, like orange creamsicle…it’s more like blergamot orange…. and weakly so. It doesn’t really taste like rooibos…just sort of blergamot water. i’ll have to give it another shot soon, but if this is how it’s going to be, it can go away! :)
