drank Salted Caramel by DAVIDsTEA

Funny how your tastebuds change in such a short period of time. When I had this back at the beginning of March I was totally blown away. Loved it. Now that I have just finished off my 50g bag (SIPDOWN!!!) I’m pretty much over it. I’ve tried a variety of caramel teas and am pretty sure I have 2 awesome choices depending on the caramel I want. Caramel Vanilla Assam is the ultimate. So yummy, no additions necessary. Like a fancy butter caramel from a farmers market or something. My other favorite is Upton’s Caramel Black. Like the gooey caramel inside of a rolo candy. Not fancy at all, but delicious. I’d like to say I’m done and I won’t seek out more, but that’s a lie. If I see a caramel option at any site that i’m already ordering from, I’ll still do it. Just not this one. I’m over it.

hahaha welcome to the club! :)

I’m going to drink my first cup of Caramel Vanilla Assam in like 30 min! Pumped!

Everyone keep’s talking about Caramel Vanilla Asssam! I need to get me some!!!!

I liked this one when it first came out, but as far as it goes in the grand scheme of caramel black teas.. not my favorite..

drank Caramel Tea by Culinary Teas

Had this for breakfast. Pretty decent. Not great. I added some milk and honey to my first steep. Was heading out the door and added half of an actual salted butter caramel from Trader Joe’s to my second steep. That was was really good. Like most of the Culinary Teas, I enjoy it, will drink my whole sample, but probably won’t re-order.

I’ve tried a bunch of teas over the past few days but it’s been pretty crazy over here so I haven’t logged them. I’ll try and get back on track! This tea smells awesome. The flavors are good and all present (Chocolate, caramel, nut), but I wish the black tea base was a little stronger. It gets tastier as it cools. I’ll definitely enjoy the rest of my sample, but I doubt I’ll reorder.

But….this sounds so delicious…

Thanks Jessiwrites for a sample of this! I’m on my second steep and I’m really enjoying it. Next time I place a David’s order it will be on my list for sure. Very creamy coconut.

This is one of my all time faves :)

Yes! Second steep is WAY better!!

Also had this in the morning.

Literally went through the same exact process as the apple cinnamon coffeecake, but was surprised because I had heard this was super tasty on its own. Once it was fully tweaked I liked it. I think I like Cookie from Lupicia better, but this is pretty good.

Aw really? This was the only one I tried that I found really flavorful! Hence my stocking up, hene

Still need to try cookie sometime but I haven’t yes been driven to buy more lupicia teas after we picked up the happy bag this past January. Heh though I AM loving the strawberry chocolate puerh I tried from mercuryhime

Had this in the morning but Steepster was pissing me off so I couldn’t post about it.

I was quite annoyed at this tea at first. It smelled amazing. I couldn’t wait to taste it. But it tasted like hot water with an essence of cinnamon. So put the leaves back in. Let it go another minute. Then it tasted like hot bitter water. I looked around to see what I could tweak it with and added some honey and frothed milk. A little better. Then I added some brown sugar. That did it. It tasted great. The cinnamon cake-y flavor dominated for sure. A hint of apple. As the tea cooled it got much more flavorful as well. Next time I’ll let it cool a lot more before adding any tweaks to see how it is.

Yeah, hot, bitter, cinnamony water :/
Sounds about right! Annoying to buy tea that ONLY tastes good when you jazz it all up.

drank Honey & Pear by Lupicia

Backlog from last night.

I had this one after a few gin and tonics last night. More buttery hojicha but this time mixed with a very faint flavor of pear. The honey was more pronounced. Enjoyed this one too. Nice way to transition away from cocktails at the end of the night.

drank Slow-Life Tea by Lupicia

Backlog from yesterday.

Really enjoyed this one. Buttery Hojicha mixed with some puerh (couldn’t even taste it) and some corn and something else. But it pretty much tasted like buttery roasted grains. In a good way. Glad I got this one.

drank S'mores by Della Terra Teas

Weird. My sample had a bunch of mini marshmallows in it. The 1oz bag I ordered doesn’t have a single one. But it’s actually much more flavorful than the sample. I also overleafed as I underleafed last time and didn’t want to make that mistake again. I like this. I don’t love it. But I definitely like it. For the second steep, I added a couple tsp of laoshan black chocolate Genmaicha to add some roastiness. Good combo for sure.

I know 52teas changed to using marshmellow root to make their recipes vegan, maybe Della Terra did that at on point too?

I don’t normally drink green in the AM, but I had this to cleanse my palate after the coffee/puerh tea. No way I could have another black tea right after that. I like this genmai only because I like the veggie flavor of the green, otherwise I prefer my genmai’s much more toasty. But this is cleansing my palate perfectly.

I love tea. And I love beer. I spent my twenties thoroughly enjoying all that beer has to offer but now that I’m into my thirties and a stay at home mom of 2 little kids and 1 big kid, I spend more time enjoying tea.

I joined steepster in Feb 2013 and it’s crazy how much my tastes have changed since joining. Before, I liked cream and honey in all teas and loved mostly dessert blacks. Now I almost rarely drink them, but enjoy them from time to time. What I love more than anything are straight rich black teas, Fujian, Laoshan, Rizhao, etc… I also love pretty much any black tea that the little leaf hoppers have gotten their teeth on.

I’m still not too into the green/white/oolong varieties. I keep trying to but my tastes are evolving pretty slowly on that front.

Overall, I just enjoy tea. Something about it that just settles me.
