Brewed too long. Strong and smoky. :P

I’m not that fond of this tea, but I think it’s just that I don’t like this type of oolong. (I seem to like the greener ones best.) I found it tastes better if I rinse it first, though.

A much better first steep this time. I used less leaf and was careful about the water temperature and steeping time. It pays not to get distracted while making tea. :P

The first time I bought Gunpowder from The Tea Place, it tasted so smoky that I had to let the dry leaf sit for a couple of months before it wasn’t overwhelming. I’m told that Gunpowder isn’t supposed to be smoky, and when I tried Acquired Taste’s version, it wasn’t. This time, the Tea Place Gunpowder has only a mild smokiness. Not sure if that’s because it had been hanging around at the shop for a while. In any case, it’s good!

Resteep. This is definitely not a tea that can be resteeped. I should have guessed, considering it’s a mild tea, but I like trying anyway. Tastes like coloured water.

I was more careful about the steeping time and water temperature this time and was rewarded with more flavour. :)

Bio

I’ve been in love with tea since I discovered the awesomeness of loose-leaf tea about four years ago.

In general, I prefer black, green, oolong, and matcha teas. I’m not a big fan of flavoured teas, but every so often I come across one I like. I also like peppermint, but that’s about it for tisanes.

I recently tried matcha for the first time, and it’s seriously growing on me.

My favourite tea accessory is my chasen holder, hence my profile pic, and my favourite teaware is the shudei kyusu I got from Den’s Tea for 99 cents. I use it both for cooling water and steeping tea. Probably the best 99 cents I’ve spent. :)
