Sencha Fuka-midori from Den's Tea
43

I tried this once again, again with better results. The first infusion wasn’t bitter (yay!), but I still wasn’t wild about it. Maybe this sencha just isn’t my cup of tea. The second infusion did come out bitter again, but I’m sure it was a steeping error again (water too hot, methinks). That was the last of my sample.

I just tried the bagged version of this tea from the Den’s Tea novice sampler. I think I like it even more than Den’s regular genmaicha; it’s a bit sweeter, I think, and so flavourful. I’m on the second infusion, and although there isn’t really any matcha in the second cup, it’s still very good. I think I’ll be going for the extra green next time I order genmaicha.

Okay, so I tried again with somewhat better results. I have a feeling I still wouldn’t be overly fond of this tea even if it was brewed for me by an expert, though. It was still a bit bitter for my tastes and a bit too vegetal, especially on the second infusion. I would definitely like to try a high-quality sencha at some point, though.

I’m getting started on the novice sampler from Den’s Tea now that I’ve run out of matcha. (Sadness.) I’m glad there’s enough tea in the samples for more than one serving because I think my water was too hot for this one, which resulted in some pretty serious bitterness. I really need to get a proper thermometer so I can be a bit more precise.

Good, but not quite as good as Den’s Tea’s genmaicha.

Yuck—this was not my cup of tea. I received this as a sample at Teaopia’s recent holiday preview event. As soon as I smelled it steeping, I knew I wasn’t going to like it. In fact, the smell was so strong that my coworkers commented on it. It has an unpleasant and overpowering honey-like smell.

I couldn’t taste any hazelnut flavour—just a honey-like flavour with some sweetness that wasn’t appealing. I was actually tempted to dump the tea and not drink it. I’ll definitely be giving away my second sample packet!

Another sample I received at Teaopia’s holiday preview event. This is pretty good, although there are some mildly fruity notes that I could do without. Again, I wouldn’t buy this one for myself, but I’d happily drink it if someone served it to me.

I received a couple samples of this tea at Teopia’s recent holiday preview event. I’m not a huge fan of rooibos teas, but this one wasn’t bad. The spices hid the rooibos flavour for the most part. It wasn’t as chocolately as I’d hoped, though, and the anise flavour was a bit too strong. I wouldn’t buy it for myself, but I wouldn’t mind drinking it again if it was offered to me.

Profile

Bio

I’ve been in love with tea since I discovered the awesomeness of loose-leaf tea about four years ago.

In general, I prefer black, green, oolong, and matcha teas. I’m not a big fan of flavoured teas, but every so often I come across one I like. I also like peppermint, but that’s about it for tisanes.

I recently tried matcha for the first time, and it’s seriously growing on me.

My favourite tea accessory is my chasen holder, hence my profile pic, and my favourite teaware is the shudei kyusu I got from Den’s Tea for 99 cents. I use it both for cooling water and steeping tea. Probably the best 99 cents I’ve spent. :)
