17 Tasting Notes

Dawn from The Simple Leaf
69

I’m going to just rip off the band-aid: I think this one was over-hyped.
OK, I guess I’m just weird. Everyone else thinks it is the most amazing tea ever…I don’t. It’s not bad, just not teagasmic. I get the pre-brew smells. Yup, Chocolate in abundance. Trouble is, it just doesn’t come through on the steep for me. There have been several descriptions of the taste, but for me the thing it tastes most like is…ready?…boiled peanut shells. That’s not necessarily bad, and I love boiled peanuts, but maybe not in my morning tea. I mixed some Dawn with some Assam, and I thought it was infinitely better. As expensive as it was with shipping, I probably will not order more. Nomex suit is donned; fire away!

Coconut Cream Pie from 52teas
74

Desserty. For me, it is a must have with 1/2 and 1/2 or milk. It seems sweet enough for me that I don’t need to add sugar. It is good, but almost too rich and special to drink very often. I mostly have it at night after dinner as it is a bit much first thing in the AM.

Banana Peach Green from 52teas
91

I think this is fantastic. Green is good, but the banana really shines through. Peach is subtle, but given the choice, I’d opt for more banana anyway. I just ordered more, and this bag was just opened. Great hot or iced, but I think the fruits come out more as the tea cools. Excellent with honey or without.

Strawberry Kiwi from Teavana
77

I’ve had some tart/sour teas before, but this one isn’t one. This one surprised me. I ordered it for the kiddies and brewed up a Tetsubin for them and served it with a little honey. Perhaps the honey took the tartness away, but I was flat out surprised that I would like this tea so much. It is hands down the best herbal I’ve ever had, but then again I haven’t had many because I usually don’t like them. It is a bit strong and would cloud your tastebuds for any further tastings. Kids love it by the way…“Princess Tea.”

Irish Breakfast from Teavana
82

Good solid tea. I like EB or IB for my first cup in the morning. This was on sale close-out at Teavana, and I think it is the cheapest thing I have ever bought from them.

Peachberry Jasmine Sutra from Teavana
34

Wow…what a waste of my birthday present: a Teavana gift card. This stuff reminds me of what it would be like drinking perfume. Really, really dry, tart fruity perfume. This is really not my cup of tea.

Peach Black from Stash Tea Company
66

Decent not great. I had a coupon so I thought I’d get some for travel this week. I made some iced with dinner. Tannins definitely show through. Peach flavouring is pretty good though.

English Breakfast from Twinings
77

Travels well. I don’t like it quite as much as the Twinings IBT, but it is solid and good with a shot of milk or 1/2 and 1/2.

Irish Breakfast Tea from Twinings
81

My everday tea when I travel. An excellent wake-me-up. Hard to oversteep, this tea is very tolerant. I serve mine with 1/2 and 1/2.

Zen from Tazo
73

Great for travel for me. I like the green and mint. Don’t oversteep though.

Dragonwell from Teavana
94

This is my everyday green. The taste is great: I have served it to people who claim not to like green teas and they found it agreeable. Personally I get a rubbery bouquet, but the taste is what keeps me coming back…vegetal and buttery, with a finish of natural honey sweetness. I don’t add honey or any sweetener; it just finishes with a sweet note on my palate. I drink this almost everyday, and it travels well. I started bringing one of those pill boxes that is split up into days of the week, and put one scoop of tea in each day. Then I just dump it into my travel strainer mug.

Assam Gold Rain from Teavana
78

Often this is my wake-me-up-cup. I alternate with Assam, EB and Irish Breakfast. I agree with others that it is a little weak in body and color, but the taste is great. I drink mine with a splash of milk. For some reason I like my black teas only with milk.

9 Treasures from Teavana
96

I LOVE this tea. It just goes to show that different palates abound. I was crushed when I found out Teavana discontinued. For whatever reason, the reviews have always been love/hate. Luckily I found another 8 oz to stash. I think the green rings true and there is a nice fruitiness in the bouquet and aftertaste, but it doesn’t really hit you over the head. I mostly enjoy it as-is, but I suppose you could sweeten the deal with honey or rock sugar.

Pi Lo Chun from Teavana
59

It has grown on me…a little. I guess my least favorite thing about it is the smoky flavour. I do however enjoy the body and liquour color. Some dummy at Teavana said it would be a good sub for 9 Treasures. Huh? A Pi Lo Chun for a fruited Puerh Green?

Fruta Bomba from Teavana
86

One of my fav fruited greens. Good hot or iced. When they discontinued 9 Treasures, this was my go-to for the fruited stuff. Sometimes I like it plain and sometimes with just a real small dollop of honey to enhance the fruits.

Apricot Caramel Torte from Teavana
67

Weird but good (sometimes…ya gotta be in the mood). I mostly keep it on hand because my Mom likes it when she comes over. The apricot is hard to pick up for me. The caramel and carrot comes through pretty strongly though. I almost wish it had a little more vegetal green taste to it. Perhaps I need to try a blend.

Peach Momotaro Artisan Tea from Teavana
42

Waaaay too expensive for such a thin tea: thin body, thin taste, thin aftertaste. I had to add honey to bring anything out of it. What you do taste of the peach seems artificial to me. They say multiple infusions, I say BS. It just gets thinner and more water flavored!
