Finally broke down on this crazy restrictive diet and said I’m having a tea or else I’ll blow the whole diet and have something else. So a tea it was. Brewed this in my teeny tiny yixing teapot. At least with the pot being so tiny, it reduces the amount of caffeine I’ll be getting. I remember getting this teapot and thinking “You’ve got to be kidding!”. Now I think I prefer super tiny pots!

I brewed for 30 sec on the first steeping. Noticed the wonderful floral notes. My breathing is getting a bit better from the diet so I’m smelling and tasting more. Although I smelled floral notes, nothing came through floral in the taste. This oolong is very clean, clear tasting oolong. That may sound contradictory since it also has a buttery, milky flavour. It’s a bit lighter than other milk oolongs I’ve had. I noticed from other reviews that most prefer a heavier milky taste & aroma with milk oolongs but I think this one has it’s place depending on what you prefer or feel like.

2nd & 3rd infusions were still good at 45 sec each. The milky , buttery flavour seemed lighter.
I think next time I have this tea, I might play around a bit with the steep times to see what different tastes come out.

What a piece of heaven in my day. Since it’s been awhile since I’ve had a cup of anything but peppermint or rooibos, it tastes like heaven to me. I think this tea has make me calmer instead of feeling a rush of caffeine.

drank Orzo Cioccolata by Lupicia

This sample came from Dexter awhile ago. I have had so many samples this one got overlooked until now. I haven’t been doing any tea notes lately as all I’ve been having on the Candida diet is Pau D’arco tea, peppermint & some rooibos. Today I thought I would try something different but herbal. I was surprised this one was herbal.

It brewed up so dark I wondered if there was coffee in it even though it was marked herbal. I searched on Lupicia’s website and discovered no coffee but is roasted barley. Wow, it’s dark and robust with chocolatey notes. It’s a bit too dark for me though. If I had been a coffee drinker trying to get off coffee this tea would be spot on. However, I am a green tea lover looking for something herbal like a green tea. Any coffee lovers out there will enjoy this tea!

Hmmmm interesting – I actually haven’t tried this one yet. Am putting it on my “inspired by dashboard list for tomorrow”. If this is coffee ish, I’m going to like it – sorry that it wasn’t for you. :((

I haven’t had this but I can imagine it being coffeish. Orzo is what you will most likely be served if you ask for decaf coffee in most places I have been in Italy.

Thanks Dexter. It was still a good tea , just not for me.

Ubacat

Ah, so they are drinking it as a replacement coffee!

Yes, most of the time they have it in a nescafe type machine, but I did see a few places pull it through an espresso machine.

I haven’t been leaving too many tea reviews lately. My asthma has built up so bad over the last few months (little by little). I have started a special diet to help with that so that’s one of the reasons too I’m not drinking much tea. I’m not supposed to have any tea at all in the first part of the diet but this morning I’m so groggy and congested I need just a little to get going. Thought I would try this tea.

I did a quick rinse on the leaves. It has a wonderful floral aroma ( I wonder how much better that would be if I could breathe right?) of orchids. There is light butter/honey notes. Only did 2 infusions. I read some of the other reviews and see this tea changes from more infusions but I have to watch my caffeine intake. Will maybe leave the leaves for another time.

Has the change in diet helped any? I hope you feel better soon.

Oh I’m so sorry about your asthma and I hope you feel much better soon! I love orchid-y oolongs sooo much.

Ubacat

Thanks Christina. I’m on the Candida diet. I know from past experience some of the foods that’s slowly starting slipping into my diet causes Candida growth in my digestive system which in turn causes my asthma. I’m also allergic to mold & stuff released by the trees spring and fall. To feel the benefits from the diet takes some time. Could be weeks or might be months depending on how severe the candida was in my system.

Thanks MzPriss. I love orchid-y oolongs too. I bet this will be an amazing tea when I can breathe! lol I was wondering way back why some on here would taste notes and I could never taste them! I lived with the asthma so long I forgot it was there some days – until I tried to keep up with my exercise and couldn’t do it.

I hope your feeling better soon. There are a lot of allergies around here recently. I stopped running outside after I started developing rashes after doing it, in the early summer. Candida can be kind of assiduous, I would probably do well to go on some detox regime as well. My mom used to work for Dr D’Adamo at one point and at times I have followed it to the letter, but generally my sweet tooth/bread loving half gets the better of me. Cranberry tea with cinnamon helps me during these periods as well.

Feel better soon!

Backlog- You just can’t beat the price of this tea. It was a bit over $7 for 100g. I brewed it up the other day. Haven’t had too much of Jasmine Pearls lately. It was like sitting down with an old friend. Brewed for 2 min at 185F. Jasmine was done perfectly. Not too weak or too strong. I used to like extremely potent jasmine until I learned it only comes from artificial flavouring. Now I prefer the jasmine to be more natural.

I think this tea could get bitter easily if not brewed right. I could detect only faint bitterness near the end of my cup.

Flavors: Astringent, Jasmine, Vegetal

Keep in mind this review is coming from someone who normally doesn’t drink black tea and doesn’t like black.

When I opened the package it smelled so wonderful. Fruity sweet. There was an element that reminded me of how Bi Luo Chun smells (and that’s one of my favs).

I kept the steep time really short – 30 sec at boiling. The aroma was intoxicating- fruity , floral , sweet. Every sip was perfection. There were strong honey notes , stone fruit notes ( peach comes to mind) , and floral notes. I couldn’t place the floral notes. They were so intertwined with the fruit notes.

Excuse me while I go for my second infusion.

I left the last sample from Green Terrace Teas to this afternoon when I could spend a little time with it. Leafhopper tea! I was very excited to try this oolong.

As with all the other samples this one smelled very fresh dry. I brewed at 195F , gave the leaves a quick rinse and brewed for 40 sec. This tea isn’t as buttery as some of the other light oolongs. It brews up an orange colour and there only a hint of toasty notes in it. A honey sweetness on the tongue. Floral aroma and floral notes. There was apple notes as well. With all this going on, you would think this would be my favourite oolong but it’s not. It is very good but I believe it’s the toasty notes that are not something I love. I did 3 infusions of this tea and it had good flavour on all 3. (40, 60, 60)

I am very thankful to Green Terrace Teas for providing this sample for me to try.

drank Deep Breath by Tealux

Had this one this afternoon. The eucalyptus was not quite as strong as I thought it would be and it had a fairly pleasant chai taste to it. No, not the kind of tea you drink for enjoyment but for it’s health benefits. It seemed to help my asthma just a bit.

There are days when I’d do just about anything to help my asthma.

drank Cocoa Orange Fusion by Tealux
661 tasting notes

This was one of the new teas in my Tealux order. When I went searching on Steepster to see if this tea was set up I found a Cocoa Orange tea by Fusion Tea. It had the same ingredients and the same description! How strange.

This smelled pretty good in the bag. A strong cocoa with a hint of orange. Brewed with boiling for 5 min. It’s really quite tasty. The cocoa isn’t over strong like a cup of hot chocolate but it’s there with light notes of orange and lemongrass. The nettle leaves give it a little added spice but it’s all balanced quite nicely. I’m very happy with it as I don’t have a huge selection for my evening teas.

Flavors: Chocolate, Lemongrass, Orange Zest

Bio

Green teas are my favourite teas but I also enjoy: white, some herbal, rooibos, raw pu’erh, light oolongs, a little bit of black , and a little bit of ripe pu’erh. I have moved away from artificial flavourings and there’s hardly anything left in my cabinet with artificial flavouring or colours. It is mostly straight teas or tea blends.
