Thank you so much LaFleurBleue for sharing this lovely tea with me.
It comes directly from Singapour and I took ages before trying it : that’s not fair from me.

Now my tastes have changed, I am revisiting my swap box and rediscovering a lot of lovely samples I wasn’t prepared to taste at this period. Now I am ready !

I respected the detailed brewing instructions given by LaFleurBleue and I am enjoying it. The dry leaf smells herbal as the smell of the liquor.
The liquor is just a kind of liquid pale gold, incredibly clear and attractive.
The taste is surprising, very refined and delicate, quite herbal with a very very very light touch of pleasant astringency at the very last moment.
While cooling I can detect some fruity notes.

A very relaxing tea.

My daughter told me few minutes ago that I am just a waster…why ? because she discovered in a cupboard an old box of this tea with 15 remaining sachets.
“You’re so tea snobbish she told me…it’s because it is not a Mariage or a Theodor you’re not drinking it” ohhhhh nooooope, just because I totally forgot about it in the cupboard ! (and maybe because I just didn’t want to drink it…as it is tea bags…)

This is a tea I had for free with an order of food and this is an organic green flavoured with orange and bergamot.
The flavouring is a nice idea to me to pair with a green.

She decided to make it for herself (the non waster of us !) but after 2 sips, didn’t want to continue…so here I am to drink it right now.

I told her : so you waste your tea ? …she aswered : come on…it’s not as if it was the best tea of the world ! It’s not a Mariage Frères Tea… (grrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
Agreed it is not even if it is really not bad for an organic supermarket tea brand.
Bergamot, orange and green base is clearly energetic and dynamic.

haha i love your daughter :)

Ysaurella

yes she is not already a teenager but she acts as if she already is !

Fuzzy_Peachkin

Lol! I love this story! :-)

Fjellrev

Haha she needed a refresher.

cteresa

I have a couple of their bagged teas, the other (ok, pricier, maybe your daughter has a point, and about me as well) line the premium one with 15 bags and wrapped in foil and those are such nice convenient teabags! I got the ceylon and the white tea, and they are probably my best travel tea. Though I gotta be ruthless, since the box only had 15 tea bags and it was getting close to finishing, I have been hoarding those, I really should just have them and get more space.

cteresa

ah, nevermind, am idiot, confused brands. Do not know this one after all. Ignore me, please.

drank Melange Fauchon by Fauchon
408 tasting notes

How refined, how elegant this tea is ! It’s fantastic.
I am having it after my congou keemum by Butiki Teas and I loved it so much I wasn’t expecting too much of this second tea to drink just behind.

This is THE most famous tea of Fauchon. I choose this one because I loved how its smell not because of its fame.
Brewing it and tasting it now I am particularly impressed by the way the aromas are coming on the same time: together and distinctively.
None of the aromas, vanilla lavender and citrus, are overpowering.
The 3 are working so well together, waaaa, the person who created this combination is just a genious.
The day begins on a lovely note : I had 2 teas, totally different, I really really loved for so different reasons.

So many teas that you have readily available madam. I’m so envious!

Ysaurella

hehehe but you have sooooo many available easily from your side of the Atlantic : for some I am jealous (Butiki Teas) or other very less (David’s). I may be able next month to send you some you want to try, let me know if you are interested :)

Sil

I am always interested in a swap with my european friends! I’ll try to clean out my cupboard a little of all of the samples in it before then. :)

drank Congou Keemun by Butiki Teas
408 tasting notes

I’ve always loved keemuns but I generally have them as flavoured teas bases.
I’ve always been impressed by their mellowness, their incredible mellowness and sweet taste, their total absence of astringency.

This one is of course no exception and I’m even more than impressed by this Congou Keemun. The leaves are so beautiful, so long and curly on the same time.
I have respected the 3 min steeping time and I get now a lovely dark brown colour, depth dark.

Tasting it I wonder if I made a mistake somewhere : I have the impression to taste a malty flavoured tea, flavoured with lovely natural notes of flowers, rose mainly, sweet rose. And I adooooooore rose ! so I was so happy and while drinking it, I can smell the liquor as well and this rose for sure.
I’m not enough advanced with my palate to detect mushrooms I think but it is absolutely not important because I’m already in love !

Boiling 3 min, 0 sec

It’s time for me to add a new note to this lovely tea.
I have it now at 95°C which is probably the correct temperature to have it and the classic Dammann tea base is absolutely lovely with its flavours.
Poppy candy is really present at this temperature, a kind of almond pastry as well(more than cookie to my opinion).
It’s a luxious dessert tea and I do not get tired of it !

Anna

Ysaurella, you are as wicked as you are lovely, for you make me crave this tea very much.

ashmanra

I adore this tea.

Ysaurella

it is so lovely yes :)
@ Anna : if you want I can send you some ! along with some MF you would like to try before ordering, just drop me a message :)

JustJames

i will have to try this sample today!

This is a sample kindly sent by Sil
I can taste a medium astringency I often have with assams even if I have only steeped this blend 3 minutes. But it is tolerable. I get the astringency from the first sip until the very last.
I get pleasant malty and robust notes with this tea as well.

Not my favourite but not bad despite the astringency

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec
Sil

i should send you some of the teas from taiwan tea crafts one of these days.

Ysaurella

how are they ? I normally love all the unflavoured BT but this one was just different for me !

Butiki Teas

Ysaurella-This one wasn’t part of our tea line. We received this by mistake and got it for free. We then gave it out as a bonus for customers who purchased our tippy golden Assam. This one wasn’t up to our standards but made a nice bonus gift.

Ysaurella

I know Stacy, I think it can really be appreciated because it is really a very decent tea but it is just not for my taste.

Butiki Teas

That’s how I feel about it too. I tried it once and well it wasn’t bad but there was nothing that made me want to add it to our line or make another cup of it.

Sil

Yeppers! Nice to have, nice to share, but nothing to keep around permanently heh

Oh thank you so much Nicole for sharing this sample with me. I am really in love with this one too and I agree with you there is some buttery Oolong taste in this Darjeeling !

The dry leaves are really thin, kind of mix of green and black and smell a little like caramel to me.
The liquor is clear.
The taste is complex : fruity for sure, I get some plum notes and a dominant muscatel taste. To me a light citrusy note appears on the aftertaste.
There is absolutely none astringency nor bitterness with this tea.

I am clearly changing my mind about Darjeelings with such a lovely tea and with the other Darjeeling I had one week ago.

I surely didn’t taste the right Darjeeling before this month !

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec
gmathis

Sounds luscious. I don’t give Darjeelings enough time or consideration, either.

Terri HarpLady

I’m starting to appreciate darjeelings more now that Ive learned to lower the water temp to 195 or so. All the difference in the world!

Sil

i agree!!!

Nicole

I’m so glad you like this one!

Ysaurella

@ Sil I am sure you would like this one !
@ gmathis yes it is really one to take into consideration
@ Terri, this one can bear a boiling temperature
@ Nicole thank you again for this tea :)

drank J.E. Oolong Milky by THEODOR
408 tasting notes

This is my first Milky Oolong.cteresa sent me a sample of this J.E.Milky oolong a long time ago and she insisted for me to taste it. You were so right Teresa, this is really an unique tea.

I was in hurry when I brewed it and just forgot to smell the dry leaves…so cannot say anything about ! But I smell now the liquor and this is an unbelievable rich and buttery smell.

Its colour is unbelievable as well : so light ! I was suspiscious at the beginning as I thought I made a mistake with the temperature or with the steeping time due to this very very light colour. But it wasn’t any mistake.

The taste is fantastic : so buttery with a hint of vanilla and a kind of sweet milk aftertaste.
This is so mellow, so smooth, it’s incredible !

You were so right to push me to have it cteresa thank you again for this fantastic tea, it goes in the shoppping list for sure.

Preparation
170 °F / 76 °C 5 min, 45 sec

This is probably my favorite tea like ever, I am so glad you tried it! Pretty amazingly magic isn´t it? And somehow, a totally forgiving tea (sometimes the really high class teas are the easiest ones which is weird).

Ysaurella

this is clearly a very high class tea and I am very glad to have had the opprtunity to taste it thanks to you.
It’s so true it’s a very easy tea

drank Bai Lin Kung Fu by Shang Tea
408 tasting notes

Even if I’m not sure (probably because of my English and my lack of Culture regarding tea harvests) of what the tea is made of (white , black tea, mix, black tea cultivated with white teas?) I really enjoyed it.

It has such a lovely scent and taste so fruity (citrus to me). It’s a solutely smooth with a hint of pleasant astringency.

Thank you so much Nicole for sharing this one with me in one of our trade. It was ages ago but better late than never to taste good teas :)

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec
Nicole

Shang has nothing but white teas from the Fujian Mountains which they process differently.

I am not sure if all teas are whites to begin with since I have read so many different things that are contradictory.

At any rate, I’m glad you liked this. This is one of my favorites. :)

drank Golden Fleece by Verdant Tea
408 tasting notes

Second steep : I get the honey notes promised and I am more than happy.
The herbal taste diseappered for my pleasure.

I’ve been particularly impressed by the colour of the second steep : very dark ! even if the steep wasn’t long, that’s funny because we don’t expect this from a dry leaf almost pale yellow.

This is really a lovely tea

Terri HarpLady

I enjoy this one too! I’m almost at the end of my stash I think.

Ysaurella

yep and it seems to be out of stock for the moment at Verdant’s

Terri HarpLady

damn, I guess I should have re-ordered while I had a chance! Oh well…they will restock eventually! Meanwhile, it’s not like I don’t have plenty of tea to drink, LOL!

Sil

you sure terri? you might run out…

Bio

First, please forgive me for my English and all the grammatical mistakes you’ll find in my posts.
As English isn’t my mother tongue it sometimes makes things more difficult to express cleverly and accurately what I feel.

I was mainly in black flavoured teas, green as well if not bitter.
I’m now drinking much straight teas because my palate is now developed enough to appreciate them .

My favourite brands are : Taiwan tea Crafts, Teavivre, Mariage Frères,Theodor,Butiki Teas,Dammann Frères, Betjeman & Barton.
My ratings are as follow :

100 to 95 : my darlings; always in my cupboard (or very often ! )

94 to 90 : Excellent tea

89 to 80 : very good tea, a pleasure to drink it

79 to 70: not bad even quite nice, why not having it sometimes, but well,it’s not so urgent !

69 to 50 : Meh, deceptive or just not for me – but has some qualities

49 to 30 : I just don’t appreciate it

Under 30 : is this thing supposed to be tea ?!?!?
