That is one of my 17 sample i ordered from Della Terra Teas ( ya 17 lol but hey 17 for 30$ with free shipping can hardly do better than that even more if you are from Canada Thanks Della Terra Teas for the good deal ) I try this as a iced tea first ( Thank DaisyChubb for answering all my question :)) i can’t say it’s bad iced it’s just weird at first ( maybe not the good choice to try iced ) the more i drink it the more i begin to discern all the different taste like chocolate and coconut not bad after all will try it hot ( even if i don’t drink hot black i did bought it for a reason )

Updates : Hot cup right now 4 minute steep since it’s the resteep from my iced tea try a little bitter ( but i find all black tea kinda bitter ) but not much probably from the first steep taste way less than the iced tea should probably have steep it around 5:30 minute once it begin to cool the coconut flavour begin to appear more and some chocolate the almond taste in both version are kinda absent probably hiding behind the coconut

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec

Got this one as a sample how could a Canadian resist trying something with maple syrup wrote on it ? simple we can’t the smell is just divine when opening the bag even the colour after steeping look like maple syrup

it’s was tasting a little maple after 4 minute not enough for me ( longer steep next time ) and a taste i can’t remember maybe the honeybush or Green rooibos since i’ve never have neither of them

So far it’s good will update that tasting note after another try with a longer steeping time

My first cold of the season is coming to a end ( well i was thinking at least ) when i began to have sore throat again. That not gonna happen let kill that with hot tea ! I’d watch a couple gaiwan video during the morning so why not try it i ask myself innocently ( my answer should have been because your gonna make a mess since you don’t know what you are doing )

Ah why not maybe i’m gonna have the beginner luck well that was not the case ..

Watching a last video after installing all my stuff just to be sure

All the pre-heat did go well but first impression That thing become HOT! i nearly drop it let handle it a little higher i still need my finger don’t want to burn it

Putting the leaf in the gaiwan – 1/4 as suggested in many video that seem a lot but meh i’m no expert so i have to take my first info somewhere let’s go with what they say ( yah cold make me dumb i didn’t even think to come ask here ..)

Rince it – Done ( that kinda the easiest part lol)

First steep – Used the suggested temperature but steeping time found on the web was 20 seconds ( Gawhhh that was so so freaking bitter first time i get a bitter green tea it’s was worst than any black tea i ever taste even the new loose leaf tea from Tim Horton made by people who don’t know how to make tea i was desperate don’t judge me lol ) too many leaf ? dunno i think probably water to hot ( i could not finish the cup it’s was that bitter )

Second steep – i think it’s was the water being too hot that cause the bitterness so i let it cool down does it change something ? well no sure less bitter but the first was so bitter that i still have the taste in the mouth

i did stop at 2 steep for the sake of my bud taste ( i wish to be able to still taste my other tea) cleaning up the mess was fast since i did not really make some but will cleaning the gaiwan i drop it and it broke ( they are little fragile thing )

So it was my first and last ( for now ) gaiwan experience i finish all this by drinking my favorite genmaicha ( at least i know how to do that one )

Thanks Zoltar!
I’ve burned my fingers every time I’ve used my Gaiwan so far, & I think it’s just part of the experience :D
Seriously, I have to really work hard not to fill it too full, because that’s when I burn myself.
Sorry to hear your Gaiwan broke (meant to be?) Are you sure you didn’t get mad & throw it across the room? ;)
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I vote that Zoltar puts the ‘Zoltar’ picture back on his profile! Anybody want to second the motion?

Zoltar

it was not on purpose lol im way to zen for that and its was a cheap one since i’ve read that it happen a lot to first time user :p ( it was in fact my second broken gaiwan i drop the first one the day i receive it >< without even using it i was opening the order box and drop it ) i may be curse when using gaiwan lol

my zoltar is still there at least i still see it on my phone will look at it when i got my computer just in case

Bonnie

I have a gaiwan for the elderly. It has a handle and a spout. It’s made of clay and is used for Pu-erh. I’m going to get another one (not clay) same style because I’m a clutz!

Zoltar

where do you get them ? that could be a idea for someone like me i do have big hand so holding something small like a gaiwan is already hard when they are cold its a nightmare when they are hot and i am clumsy too mine cost just 8$ ( cheapest i could find ) but still i would like not to have to bought a new one each time i touch it :P

No matter how many tea i taste genmaicha always see me coming back ( in fact i got a cup right now ) can’t say if taht one better than the other i drank since i don’t have all them with me to taste one after another but that one pretty good ( and don’t have to wait 1 week to get if i forgot to buy more before drinking them all yay for having a tea store at less that 20 minute from home )

Genmaicha is probably my most favorite tea right now ( just after genmaicha with matcha ) Not much more to say this tea is yummy and i hope it’s will stay that way

drank Formosa Oolong Finest by TeaFrog
35 tasting notes

i will start by saying way to earthy for me i prefer the grassy taste of a green I’m not really fond of earthy for me they taste more bitter than anything else with a sweetener he could be good but i don’t put anything to sweet in my tea.

I do love the colour of this one a beautiful red/brown shade

My nose maybe wrong because of my cold but i found it to smell a little like pu’erh at least the one i have

This one definitively not for me but that why i love sample i don’t feel bad for buying something i don’t like

Boiling 4 min, 0 sec

drank Matcha Matsu by DAVIDsTEA
35 tasting notes

Not gonna give a note to this one since that my first and only matcha at this time.

I find it good but without anything to compare that just a opinion my experience with matcha got a bad start. Green matcha trigger seasonal allergy in me ( like during the summer puffy and itchy eyes and all the other symptom that goes with it ) I’m not exactly sure why that happen no other green tea does that i will follow advice from fellow steepster and try white or black matcha ( thanks Azzrian for that i wasn’t even aware than non green matcha existed )

Azzrian

Happy to help :)

drank Vanilla Rooibos by TeaFrog
35 tasting notes

The smell of that on is divine even more for me since it smell like the pipe tobacco my uncle and dad was smoking when i was younger its a smell that will always be in my memory that probably why i’m a little disappointed don’t get me wrong it does taste great and vanilla a good sweetness in it but not kinda sweet just natural sweet.

But because of the scent the taste is tainted by my memory

I drank the last cup of it putting fresh ginger and mint because of my cold it was surprisingly real good for everyone wanting real vanilla taste without the tartness of some vanilla flavor that on may be for you

i did over steep it because of the ginger and the mint the bag say 6 minute and that probably enough

drank Banana Nut Bread by DAVIDsTEA
35 tasting notes

ohhhhhh did i wish to have read all the taste note before making that one first because of the steeping time 7 minute ( as written on the bag ) is no where nearly enough to have anything other that coloured water but the one i should really have read was the suggestion to use t-bag >< lucky enough my Steeper is easy enough to clean but still a pain with that one not gonna make that mistake twice that for sure

Overall it is good but do not taste what i was hoping for ( ya i know wanting it to taste like my grandma and mother banana bread was a dream but hey i dream about what i want ! lol )

Steeping time was nearly 12 minute for me before it’s begin to taste enough but i like my tea strong ( ya i know there is no tea in that one but you all know what i want to say ) Gonna do some try with this one and update that note after that

Update: 14 minute steep and nearly double quantity for this try ( already that remove it from my buy again list better tasting banana tea exist already for me to worth it waiting 14 minute for a tea that have no tea in it and that need way to much quantity )

That time it’s was really tasting banana and a little hint nutty i do see the weird oil on top of it that some people already mentioned it’s just not worth it in my opinion my organic banana oolong taste better and wont cost me a fortune from needing way to much leaf for tasting something

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more

Bio

Name is Guillaume or William for the english version of it :p

Reading, movies and music are mostly my only hobby ( they take most of my time but lucky me i can drink Tea when doing all of them ! :D) i am a technology addict and at the same time love old thing ( i shave with a straight razor )

Like most people here i suppose tea as become a obsession really fast how can it not be with so many tea and teaware available? it is a conspiracy i say !

Tea lover for a couple of month now it’s the only hot beverage i can drink ( i hate coffee and the like ) thank to having a DT near my house and to Den’s for the 3$ for tea novice

I’m way behind in my tasting note but it will be done ! Bad note from me does not mean the tea was bad i try to explain what i did not like but that just my opinion I’m no expert on tea i like what i like and that all.

I mostly drink green tea i found black tea to be too bitter for me since i don’t put sweetener in anything flavored black tea are ok if they have something already sweet in it

Rooibos and herbal are ok all depended on the flavor they are

I love most white and oolong just have yet to find one i really like

everyone as different taste but there tea for every taste
