Nutcracker Sweet from Celestial Seasonings

Black Satin from Remedy Teas

It’s taken me quite a while to get through this. While it’s a nice blend, it’s not the kind of tea that I think about drinking even when I’m not drinking it, or ever get a “craving” for. When I do drink it, it’s been so long that I enjoy it, but I always feel like I want to LOVE it and I can’t do more than just like it. I do (someday, when I have less tea stashed away to use up) want to order some different blends from Remedy Teas, because this is still an interesting blend and I’m very curious to see what some of their other teas are like!

Pumpkin Spice from Bigelow

I had one lone bag of this blend left, and nothing else I had at work was appealing to me this afternoon, so I thought I’d finally use it up. I didn’t want to over-steep it so I might’ve overcompensated (I know this is a very weak-tasting blend regardless of the steeping time, in my experience), and there seems to be a very prominent smoky note today that I don’t remember from any previous tastings. I guess I’ll take smoky over nothing, so it doesn’t really detract, but I’m reminded again of why I gave the rest of this tea away.

Christmas Morning from Stash Tea Company

I read some reviews for this before I bought it (it was on sale, and I figured what the heck), so I wasn’t too surprised when I tried this blend. As someone else stated, I don’t understand exactly why this is considered a holiday blend because there’s honestly nothing special or remotely holiday-ish about it. No fancy flavours or notes, just a kind of average breakfast-y black tea blend. I like it enough for what it is, but I don’t think I would bother repurchasing. I’ve left it at my desk at work (where I drink most of the black blends that don’t require much notice… I just need the caffeine!) to finish up the box.

Coconut Mango Oolong from Stash Tea Company
69

Backlogging from last week… this was on sale and sounded different, so I thought I’d try it. I’m not a mango fan at all so I this blend could’ve gone either way but I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t love it but it wasn’t disappointing either. I didn’t get much coconut out of it but the mango note was actually kind of nice. Normally Stash teas don’t do much for me so this is one of the best blends of theirs I’ve tried. Next time I drink this, I’ll review AS I’m drinking so it’s a little more coherent but for now I’ll just say that I wasn’t sorry I bought this!

Toasted Coconut from Remedy Tea

It’s funny that I don’t drink more of the teas I really enjoy… I think I’m usually more of the mindset of “oh, I have to use this mediocre tea up” so I focus more on those than the best ones in my cupboard. Go figure—my mind works in mysterious ways. Anyway, I brought this one into work today and am thoroughly enjoying it! I almost taste a “rum” note because the way the coconut blends with the black tea creates it almost as an aftertaste. There are plenty of thin but long coconut flakes in this blend, so the coconut taste is definitely prominent (and it smells incredible). I’m a fan of just about anything coconut, but this is also just really great tea in my opinion. :)

English Breakfast from Ceylon Teas

I got this as a gift, and I have a sneaking suspicion that my friend received a gift basket with this in it (and she doesn’t drink tea), so she gave it to me. I have to say, it’s pretty terrible. I drank the whole cup (mostly because I was too lazy to get up and throw it out and make another cup of something else), but I don’t know if I would drink another by choice. What’s left of the box is now going into the tea cupboard where I work!

Wild Blueberry (Fair Trade Certified) from The Republic of Tea
69

Backlogging… I tend to forget about this one because I hear “blueberry” and think HERBAL (and I don’t like herbal teas). I always forget that this blend is a black tea! So I dug it out again the other day and had some, and was pleasantly surprised by how slightly-better-than-okay it is. I don’t love it but it’s not terribly disappointing either, just a fairly good slightly fruity black tea.

Eggnogg'n Tea from Bigelow

Caribou Chai Tea Latte from Caribou Coffee
73
Sleepytime Vanilla from Celestial Seasonings
66

I keep drinking this at night and then forgetting to review it, so I’m backlogging a bit… I just moved to my own place and have started drinking tea at night again (not sure why I stopped, but I’ve been out of the habit for years, and I also generally hate herbal teas so it wasn’t a terrible loss overall). I realized that I barely had any non-caffeinated blends, so when I saw this at the store, I thought it would be a good candidate. I really don’t love the regular Sleepytime blend, so I was pretty skeptical about the vanilla version, but this is pretty awesome! The vanilla note hides the lemongrass and it’s a pretty pleasant blend. I don’t like to steep it too long or it gets a bit overpowering, but overall it’s a really nice before-bed cup of “tea”!

Blackcurrant Breeze from Twinings
70

Somehow oversteeped this, even though I was paying close attention! I had to add half & half (which I hate) so overall, not my best work. Not the tea’s fault, but it isn’t a fantastic blend to begin with. Ah, well!

Vanilla Almond from The Republic of Tea

Eggnogg'n Tea from Bigelow

YESSSSS, I found this at a local store for the first time ever! Bought 5 boxes (and considering going back for more since it was on sale, which I didn’t know when I was at the register). SO EXCITED. ahem Anyway, this tea is just as excellent as it was the last time I had it, so there’s not much else to add. Ignore me, I’ll just continue squeeing in the corner!

Caribou Chai Tea Latte from Caribou Coffee
73
Spiced Pear from Remedy Tea
69

Hmm, very unimpressed with this today. Brewed for what I thought was too long (although looking at my past notes, I see that I brewed it for 5 min. previously and it turned out okay), and did not enjoy the taste. The ginger was amped like crazy and the pear note almost tasted bitter. It was kind of a mess, to be honest. I only made it through 1/2 of the cup and gave up. I have to echo my previous review and say this is my least favourite Remedy Tea Bar blend out of everything I ordered. I’ll try it again before I adjust the rating, but it seems too high after this round!

Cherry Ceylon Tea from Metropolitan Tea Company

Pulled this out of the cabinet today to try, and quickly remembered why it had been pushed to the back and forgotten about. The little wooden box that the tea is packaged in has really affected the scent and flavour of the tea and there is no cherry anything to speak of. I don’t know what kind of wood this box is made of, but it tastes like it smells. In the trash with the rest of this!

Himalayan Black from ineeka

Drinking this again today… it’s so nice to have a higher-quality black tea for work! I tend to drink so many flavoured teas because the bagged black blends I have just aren’t that great (I need to start bringing more loose teas to work again). This tea holds up well to over-steeping too, which is an added bonus!

Vanilla Almond from The Republic of Tea
62

Kind of re-discovered this while unpacking the rest of my tea collection over the weekend, and brought it to leave at work so I could finish the rest of it off. I went through a phase of loving this blend, and it seems I’ve outgrown it or fallen out of love with it because it just doesn’t hold the same charm now! It’s okay, but honestly not much better than mediocre. Very smooth and almond-y but otherwise not very notable. I tend to brew it for a while to make it as strong as possible.

Victorian Earl Grey from Celestial Seasonings
47

Almost over-steeped this today, but it turned out to be a happy accident because it actually tasted better! Not even slighly bitter either. I think 5 min. will be my standard steeping time for this tea from now on!

Vanilla Chai from Bigelow
89
Caribou Chai Tea Latte from Caribou Coffee
73

Backlogging… had the hot version of this Friday. There’s something about this blend that’s underwhelming/kind of bland, so I actually prefer Starbucks’ chai, but every once in a while I like to switch it up. I guess the Caribou blend is more milky (as opposed to spicy), and I prefer SPICE (which is why I wish more places offered the local Bhakti Chai blend!). Still a nice hot drink on a cold wintery day!

The CFO gave me her box of this today, since I guess she bought it for the pretty packaging and then realized she would probably not manage to drink it before it went stale. Everyone at work knows how much I love tea, so that finally paid off!

At first taste, I wasn’t overly impressed (especially with such fancy packaging—I really expected to be blown away), but this is a really solid black tea blend. Partway through the cup I realized that it was actually pretty good. I don’t know that I’d buy it again (I’m assuming it was pretty expensive), but I will definitely enjoy the rest of the box!

Bio

I’m a 41-year-old vegetarian zen witch who is obsessed with tea, music, beer, psychology (and many other things)! I really dislike herbal teas and will mostly only drink black with the occasional green and white mixed in from time to time. I have two huge cabinets full of tea that I will probably never be able to use up—it’s a constant battle to keep myself from buying more! Every time I travel, I come home with a bunch of new teas to try. I don’t post on here as often since I’m really trying to keep my collection in check and haven’t been trying as many new blends as I once did.
