Yiwu Sheng Pu'er 50g Mini-Brick 2006 from Mandala Tea
86

I apologize for the low res photo but if someone can grab the bigger one, then please feel free.

Okay I’ve had this brick for a little while now but am just getting around to tasting it, what a slacker I am. :)

I am using the YiXing teapot for this and managed to break off a small piece with my hands. I did a quick rinse and got a very nice earthy, woodsy smell.

The first steep I did for around 30 seconds. I am surprised that this tea is already so mellow and seems to have some signs of aging creeping in. It seems woodsy with a cinnamon sort of flavor, and the aftertaste is slightly bitter.

2nd steep: some interesting flavors are coming up, again I am reminded of cinnamon and also orange. A bit of the bitterness is retreating. There’s a slight bit of smoke, I think and a light tobacco flavor.

3rd steep: I did for around 45 seconds, that may be a bit too long for this tea and my tastes, I’m getting lots of tobacco with a woodsy smell. I can’t quite place it, perhaps oak?

4th steep: 10 seconds. Definitely this is a better steeping time for me. This is pretty good now but I wonder how much better it will be in 10 years??? Glad I got some!

Hi Amy! I hope you are very very well!!! I feel like we haven’t “chatted” in some time! We just did 4 days of a music festival with our tea biz. 18 hour days of talking, brewing and sipping tea. It was exhausting, but beautiful…

I got to unveil a new blend of ripe tea that I just completed there. It is a blend of leaves from Yong De which were picked and ripened in Spring of 2011. grades 1,3,5,7 leaves. It is tea-licious and I’m pumped! Got all the leaf together for it (220 lbs worth) and the cakes will be pressed in the next week or so. I don’t want to wish time away, but in 2 to 3 years, this stuff is going to be cha-mazing!!! Even though it is quite young the people who sampled it at the fest were really pleased. I am too. I’ll have to make sure you try some!!!

Hi!! The music fest is called Boats and Bluegrass and it takes place right next to the Mississippi River just outside of Winona, MN. It is a wonderful fest, low-key, great people, incredible music (not just bluegrass) and the best scenery! We love being a part of it. Great times!!

I am a fan of many different teas but my favorites are blacks and oolongs, also like darjeeling and pu-erh. I’n always learning and expanding my horizons!

Dislikes include: bergamot, jasmine, highly tannic or bitter teas, overly judgmental and bitter people. :)

Live in San Francisco, I’m a SINK (single income, no kids) and love the urban life, but traveling out to the middle of nowhere is always fun too.

I tend to not drink things I know I will hate so a lot of my tea ratings are on the higher side. Here’s my rating system, sorta

95-100 I love this tea and would like to keep it around
