308 Tasting Notes

I’m glad I had an opportunity to sample this without committing to a large quantity. It sounds like something I’d enjoy, but I’m quickly learning that lemongrass (along with pineapple) in tea is really hit or miss for me. I think it’s safe to say that any tea that combines pineapple and coconut is not for me. I enjoy piña coladas but, to my taste buds, those flavors just don’t translate well in tea. Pity.

This tea is a total surprise for me. Honestly, I added it to my sampler pack because of the word mocha in the name of the tea. Truth be told, I didn’t even read the ingredient list beforehand – how unlike me! I sampled it this weekend, along with a few other teas that I thought I might want to reorder just based on the sniff test. It was delicious! Very complex coffee flavor, nice body from the black tea base and the melted chocolate, and lovely spice notes (words I never thought I’d say). I will be repurchasing this. I think it’d make an outstanding latte.

I’m not a huge fan of Earl Grey blends, but the strawberry and papaya notes in this tea sounded intriguing. The tea reminded me of The Earl’s Garden by DAVIDsTEA. The strawberry note was dominant in this cuppa. The papaya was detectable but only just. I don’t taste lime at all. It’s very fragrant and very floral, and, thankfully the floral quality subsides once steeped. The black tea base isn’t harsh or bold. Altogether it’s a pleasant tea, but it’s not one that I’ll be repurchasing.

There isn’t a ton of white tea flavor coming through, but I’m okay with that. This blend is primarily cherries and marzipan to my taste buds. I’m not sure what’s contributing to the baked goods note/flavor, but it adds a bit of depth that’s, quite frankly, a surprise considering the short steep time. It’s really quite a nice little blend, and it’s making me wish I had some cherry bakewell tarts to accompany my cuppa.

Weekend backlog —

What a surprisingly wonderful blend. Truth be told, I wasn’t expecting much. I added it to my sampler pack because I enjoy guayusa and maté blends. If lime cola were tea this is what it’d taste like. You can definitely taste the guayusa but the lime and cola flavors compliment it so nicely. I’m having a hot cuppa this morning but I imagine it’d be very tasty over ice and/or as a teapop.

drank Honeydew Mate by DAVIDsTEA

So…I have a thing for melon teas. Upon sorting through all the random bags and tins in my collection this past weekend I discovered that I had quite a bit of this blend stashed away. I’m enjoying a few cups over ice this morning. It’s a bit earthy from the green rooibos and mate. It tastes juicy, like a big bowl of fresh, juicy honeydew melon – y’know the kind of melon that’s almost too ripe that it begins to get mushy.

I’m pleasantly reminded why it’s my all-time favorite mate blend from DT. I didn’t realize I had so much of it in my stash. Rediscovering such a sizeable amount might’ve been both a blessing and a curse – wanting to drink copious amounts of ice as the temperature here only continues to climb but not wanting to run out of a tea that has been discontinued for quite some time…

The struggle is real.

If anyone has recommendations for melon blends that are heavy on honeydew or cantaloupe flavor (not such a big fan of watermelon in teas), regardless of company, do let me know.

Wow I remember this blend! Don’t think I ever tried it, but I was recommended it after Lucious Watermelon was discontinued three-four years ago (although they brought it back briefly last summer and I scooped 250g). Hopefully the same will happen for this tea for you!

FYI, Luscious Watermelon will be back again this summer as part of the summer collection. :) I did not care for it myself, and I don’t think it compares to Honeydew Mate at all. Honeydew Mate came back briefly last year but I wasn’t able to stock up before it sold out. I had to buy a few random bags from people here and there.

Kristal

Oh darn! Sorry to hear that happened :(

Thanks for the heads up about Lucious Watermelon! I don’t love it as much as I did in 2012 (I prefer less sweet teas nowadays) but I may need to stock up as I know DAVIDs is bad for bringing in teas for ridiculously short times

No worries. Yeah, the majority of their new releases or re-releases are limited edition. They’ve discontinued so many permanent blends lately. I hope they’re replacing them on the tea wall. I’ve learned to only try teas I think I’ll really like and want to buy in bulk to keep from being disappointed.

Kristal

Yeah, I do the same thing nowadays so I don’t get disappointed and for budgeting purposes. I was looking at my orders on my account and I haven’t had a big order ($50+ when I order online) since November. That’s a huge change for me since I was doing big orders once every 6weeks ish for the longest time. I was even looking at my frequent steeper points and from the beginning of January- now I only spent about $60 at DAVIDs. That’s a mega change for me since I was a huge DAVIDs TEA fangirl and now I’m getting increasingly annoyed at them and switching where I shop.

I’m currently staring out the window in my office and wishing I had a nice warm scone to accompany this delicious cuppa…

It’s been a hectic morning. I’m taking a break from building reports to (quickly) enjoy this cuppa.

I didn’t get a dried cranberry in my spoonful this morning but my cuppa still has a lovely, subtle cranberry flavor. The vanilla compliments the cranberry so nicely.

I’m so glad I was able to stock up on this one before it vanished.

I tried this tea many moons ago. I remember liking it and found an unopened bag in my stash over the weekend. I thought I’d try a different mate blend this morning instead of my usual (Queen of Tarts). It’s not bad. It’s nutty and slightly sweet. It also has really nice apricot flavor. The taste of the mate isn’t overwhelming which is a bonus. I’ve heard this tea is returning as a permanent addition to the tea wall some time in the near future. Personally, I prefer mate blends that are more tropical, but this is a nice change.

Guava Gadabra + Melon Drop

I steeped this combo in my travel mug this morning to enjoy over ice at the office. I let it steep for a good 2+ hours while I was commuting and completing a few of my morning tasks at work.

Fruity, sweet, tropical, juicy…delicious.

TheKesser

This sounds amazing!

Truth be told, it made my morning.

drank Melon Drop by DAVIDsTEA

Now that Melon Drop has returned as the TOTM, I’m finally making a dent in my stash.

I steeped some in a travel mug this morning to enjoy over ice at work this morning. I’m also cold-steeping a pitcher to enjoy at home over the next few days. It’s so delicious and sweet without any added sweetener. It’s like melon agua fresca. It’s juicy, wonderfully ripe cantaloupe and honeydew to my taste buds. I’m glad I don’t detect much watermelon because watermelon in tea is usually a miss for me.

I’m so happy to be enjoying this tea again. It’s one of my all-time favorite fruit infusions from DT.

Flavors: Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Melon, Sweet

I’m a fan of this one too!

It’s really tasty! _
