There has been something I don’t like about some 52 teas blends that I couldn’t put my finger on. Over the months, I have figured it out. I for one don’t think I like honeybush, the flavour to me is so strong and dominant that all of the blends taste so much alike. But I also don’t like the cinnamon flavouring Frank uses, there is something very medicinal about it. I am assuming it is the cinnamon as that is the common ingredient of the blends I don’t like. Needless to say, I don’t like this blend either. The honeybush is just too strong and the cinnamon flavour just isn’t that natural, comforting cinnamon flavour that I love. My Dad was up for Christmas and enjoyed this tea so I think I will bring it down to Vancouver with me when I visit them in a couple of weeks.

I have started going through older teas and trying them again. I have a large tin of this and haven’t had it for months. This used to be one of my favourite teas, but not anymore. Mainly because I have tried way more teas now, but partly because I just don’t like this as much as I used to. It is still pretty good, though I find it has a slight metallic flavour, but that could be just my batch or maybe because of the tin? Also, the blueberry flavour isn’t as strong as I remember. Either way, there is something off-putting about this tea. I don’t know if it’s the ugly grey colour it brews up, or maybe it’s the stevia, but I’m just not enjoying the tea like I used to. Maybe I need to take a longer break before coming back to this tea.

I haven’t had this in a long time. I ordered 50g of it online when it was on clearance. The smell of this was amazing! Just like a real, ripe banana. But, when I drank it, that banana was lost in the oolong. This was back when I first started drinking loose leaf teas and I was looking for BIG flavour. I was really disappointed that I could barely taste the banana, so I mixed this tea with vanilla orchid and Butiki’s strawberry oolong, as I wasn’t impressed with the flavours of those either for the same reasons, not strong enough. Looking back now, I wish I hadn’t mixed those, as I am really craving a cup of this. I can remember the taste and I know I would appreciate it a lot more now, I am getting more into strait teas and am really preferring lighter flavours. Too bad I can’t buy any more :( I still have that blend though, and the most prominent flavour is the banana, so that will have to do.

drank Mango Shade by Silk Road
193 tasting notes

This is the last tea from my silk road order that I am trying. I guess my expectations for this tea were low as the reviews and ratings were quite low. This tea blew me away! The mango flavour was so fresh and natural as I find with all silk road teas, but it was quite muted. I could have used a little bit more flavour, but it was still really good! I took a few sips of this to make sure that adding milk was an option and that it wouldn’t curdle and it was even better with milk in it! Mmmmmmm creamy mango. I swear most things are better creamy!

Wow! That was much better! Tried this again today and watched the steeping time and what a difference. Not bitter, didn’t taste like a green and I could detect the nutmeg flavour, though it was still just a hint of nutmeg. I love that this is a spice based tea that is strictly nutmeg, I like to taste those spices alone once in a while instead of always being paired with cinnamon! The base was very smooth and creamy, my only complaint is that I wish there was a little more nutmeg, but a really good tea. I would repurchase this if given the chance.

This smell of this is amazing! It smells like praline or pistachio. I can’t detect any eggnog, but it does have a creamy texture, so I can see how some might find it eggy. It doesn’t have the spiciness of eggnog though. It tastes very similar to Butiki’s pistachio ice cream, but the green tea base is less vegetal, so I prefer this one. I wish I could buy this when I run out!

Oops! I wayyyyy over steeped this one at work today. This is the first of the three teas from the December Amoda box that I tried as it intrigued me the most. I really like nutmeg and this smelled like strait nutmeg, nothing else! Unfortunately the nutmeg didn’t come through at all in the flavour. I’m hoping that’s because I over steeped it and the black tea base was very strong and a little bitter. I found the base to taste a little bit like a green… I’m hoping that was just because of the over-steeping as well. Excited to give this another try tomorrow!

Better luck with a better steep. I used about a 3-4 minute steep, and just a little over the leaf amount called for, since I was using my steeper to make for a mug.

I had high hopes for this tea, I think vanilla added to anything makes it better! I wish that the vanilla was more noticeable and that they added chocolate flavour rather than powder as it made the tea a little chalky. It reminded me quite a bit of David’s stormy night but better quality. I started out my tea journey loving spicy teas, mainly cinnamon, but now I find that I am getting bored of them. This tea is still good, but not re-stock good.

I am not a fan or orange flavour, but I do like mandarin so I thought I’d give this a shot. I find that mandarin is a lighter and fresher flavour than just plain orange. This to me didn’t really taste like mandarin, just a spicy orange tea. It was a good flavour, just not for me. I might have another cup of it, but this is definitely one for the tea box because I know someone else can enjoy it.

I had been waiting for winter to come along to I could order this seasonal tea. But this was quite awful. I don’t like peppermint alone, and it is much worse paired with hibiscus. Peppermint should never be sour! I wouldn’t recommend this tea unless you really love both of those ingredients.

I didn’t drink a lot of tea growing up, just the red rose my nana would make me with about 3 teaspoons of sugar added to it. I started getting into loose leaf tea about a decade ago when I visited our local tea house and tried Rooibos for the first time, though I only drank it on occasion. I didn’t get serious about it until David’s tea came to town. I was on a diet and wanted something I could drink without sugar that had a lot of flavours to choose from.

I prefer black teas, but oolong and green come in a close second. White and guayusa are in the middle, while mate, rooibos and herbals are at the bottom of my list.

Likes: banana, jasmine, pumpkin, lychee, blueberry, chocolate
Dislikes: orange, ginger, rose, hibiscus, butterscotch, honeybush

My non-tea related interests are music, camping, poker, softball, snowboarding, biology and animals. I have 2 dogs and they are my whole life.
