English Breakfast from Harney & Sons

Wow! My five hundredth tasting note! I didn’t realize it was when I was making my tea this morning, but I think I would have chosen this as the tea to have that honor. And it was particularly good this morning. It is a rather quiet morning with son in summer classes, middle daughter volunteering for the summer reading program at the library, and no one left at home but youngest daughter and Sandy’s dogs, all of whom wanted a plate of cheese cubes. Cheese is so perfect with black tea, as it seems to bring out the natural sweetness of the tea more. This English Breakfast is my favorite. It is pure keemun and has just the right balance of strength and smoothness, cocoa goodness and tea flavor. It was delightful with cheese toast smeared with a bit of mustard.

You’re making me crave cheese toast with mustard. We started making it that way, and now my husband always asks for the mustard, too :) :) :)

My mother would be so happy! She was the one who taught me to eat it that way. It is sooo good with tea, too!

How do you make this cheese toast with mustard? It has so many of my favorites in it, it must be good!

Easy! Just put some slices of cheese on bread, pop it under the broiler until cheese is melted, remove from oven and smear with mustard. Yummy! Great for breakfast or for a snack, or when you just can’t think of anything that sounds good for lunch. Hope you like it!

ashmanra, I grew up thinking that my mother was mad for smearing mustard on her cheese toast. I thought it was some weird mid-western thing like sharp cheddar melted on apple pie. It’s funny to know that it exists outside of my odd family. I do have to admit that it was tastey :)

My mom was born and raised in NC but she did the sharp cheddar on apple pie thing, too. I am sure it must taste good, but that is where vanilla ice cream goes if you ask me.

We always smeared mustard on the bread before the cheese.
