Mmm, sweet smoky. This smells like barbecue sauce or wood smoke flavoring. I am curious if anyone here at work is going to comment on this smell (they’ve already commented on my baked potato). So far no one has said anything even though it smells like I’m smoking a brisket in here.
It tastes like I’m smoking a brisket even. There is a hint of sweet on the tail end of the sip… not quite honey, not quite maple. Maybe a bit like beef jerky sweet so brown sugar? For once I haven’t sucked the cup down in a matter of minutes and since it’s been given the chance to cool a little more, I’m getting a ton of taste of out if. A thick, coat-my-tongue heavy tar-ish/coffee sludge flavor/texture, a middle smoky flavor that makes me think of the old style smokehouses, a twang of sweet brown sugar and a little pine-y tartness in the aftertaste. All rolled into a big ole smoky tea. So yeah, not a tea for the fainthearted! I’m probably going to have to chew some gum because I’m pretty sure smelling like this will be offensive to even myself after a bit. But I’m going to have a second steep first.
That sounds so yummy to me as a food, but seems a little intimidating to me a drink. What can I say, I’m a white tea kind of gal. :-) But, someday I have to try this!
