806 Tasting Notes

Momijigari from Lupicia
100

This tea is the best wine tasting tea I have ever had – and its not even touted as a wine flavored tea! What the?
I love it – apples and apricot and fallen autumn leaves? YES MORE PLEASE!
Tastes like the holidays!

Creme Brulee Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
94

This is very buttery and smooth. Sweet and decedent! The flavor is mostly the creme brulee custard rather than the burnt sugar topping but it is delicious nonetheless!
I do get the burnt sugar flavor more on the after taste.
Very nice!

King of Fruits from Lupicia
100

I AM in LOVE!
Just LOVE. Lupicia NEVER lets me down!
Imagine every amazing tropical fruit EVER but it is in just ONE KING of fruits!
BLISS!!!!!!!

Organic Kundaly from Butiki Teas
93

A lovely straight forward Indian tea! There is not a ton of complexity here but it is very good quality! There is a nice difference here between your typical Indian Black so you should give it a try – especially if you love Indian black teas!
This one has a nice twang note within it – plucky like.
Slight black pepper flavor as well but very subtle and could easily be missed!
Full review on http://sororiteasisters.com/ to come soon!

White Chocolate from sTEAp Shoppe
93

A lovely white chocolate flavor which is very distinguishable!
Creamy and sweet but not cloying! A very nice blend!
Perfect for a cool day!
This tea is also excellent when cooled as well!
Full mouthfeel.
Longer Review will be forthcoming on http://sororiteasisters.com/

Royal Air Force from Rare Tea Company
88

I needed a good – no – a GREAT kick in the rear this morning as I got up FAR earlier than I usually do and I have no idea why. Its cool and the wind is crazy today – leaves falling – perfect cuddle up and sleep all day type of day. HOWEVER I grabbed this sample from LiberTEAS and thank goodness this is a strong bold cup! Exactly what I needed!
Malty, oatmeal aroma, some strange fruit notes. When I wake up I will be doing a full review on http://sororiteasisters.com/

Maple Syrup Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
100

Had a latte this morning – loving it – sometimes when I try a new tea of any kind I have new love syndrome which means I LOVE LOVE LOVE It the first time then later its okay – even VERY good but not AS MUCH love.
HOWEVER … I still LOVE LOVE LOVE this one! :)

Dragon Feelers from Butiki Teas
87

Call me crazy – and I have not yet taken a sip but this tea smells like chocolate when stepped! LOL yeah I know that seems odd.
I love the look of the leaf – reminds me of pea pods!
I also smell a creamy aroma. YUMMM can’t wait for it to cool enough to drink!
I should be sleeping – but I’m not.
So first sip – very light – light vegetal flavors, buttery, and rock mineral? What the??? Its not an oolong but yet there is this fresh rock mineral flavor I am getting. Interesting!
A little salty, and a cooling sensation yet not minty flavored.
Very interesting indeed.
I will play around with this one a bit to see what else I can get from it with resteeps and perhaps different brewing methods.
So far I am intrigued!

Wild Raspberry Pu-erh from The Whistling Kettle
91

A WONDERFUL pu-erh for beginners!! I love it and I would not say I am a “beginner” although I have so much more to explore in the world of pu-erh. I just am one who already loves pu-erh. This however is one that needs to be tried if you are timid about pu-erh.
The flavors are so well blended and the other ingredients do not take over the wonderful pu-erh notes yet the notes are probably only strong enough for a true pu-erh drinker to notice at first.
Fruity and delicious with notes of peat, oak moss, and so much more!
Oh and its creamy too!
LOVE THIS!
Full review coming on http://sororiteasisters.com later this month.

Organic Shui Xian Oolong Tea from Arbor Teas
84

Enjoying a nice cup of this tea right now – plum and woodsy notes are primary.
Very juicy – I almost choked on my first sip due to the bursting effect it has.
Very delightful and not too drying.
Roasty and calming on a cool evening.

Climber's High from The Tea Spot
90

This tea is totally hitting the spot for me this morning after not feeling the greatest and I am feeling much better today! :)
Energizing but not in a shaky way. Delicious cup – with so many flavors that I find meld together nicely!

Vanilla Mint from Golden Moon Tea
88

Been sickly and this is the only tea sitting right with my tummy right now.

Gui Fei Oolong from Butiki Teas
100

Good Lord! I am kicking myself for not trying this before now! SERIOUSLY!
This oolong is out of this world!
I am on steep three and I am sure I could get at least two more if not more than that.
The leaves still have dryness and tons of aroma!
The cup is still colorful and flavorful!
When I smelled this steeped tea – before even taking the fist sip I knew I was going to be angry for not trying it sooner and I was right!
Peachy yes, woodsy yes, Juicy, apple flavors, almonds, yes its all in there but there is this wonderful mouthfeel that is outstanding – sort of syrupy in a way.
My full review will be on http://sororiteasisters.com/ later this month.

Nilgiri Frost Oolong from Butiki Teas
94

Just had this and its surprising!
Its like a black and oolong had a baby!
Great for those mornings that I am not sure which I want to grab first!
I love oolong and I love black tea but this is interesting!
There are many different flavor notes here including peach, pecan, woodsy, oak, and more!
Its deep, dark and robust!
A great one to have in the perma stash!
A full review will be on http://sororiteasisters.com/

Pistachio Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
94

So this does not beat my love for macadamia nut matcha and I probably even like the almond matcha more HOWEVER this is a very good matcha!
Its funny because pistachios are my favorite nut although macadamia does run a close second the things are just too darn expensive! Not that pistachios are cheap or anything but for the price – heck I will just buy matcha instead!
This pistachio matcha really does smell like pistachio.
There is a slight very slight chemical like smell but it does not come out in the blend when you make your matcha regardless of if you use just water or make a latte with it.
I really do like this matcha and the base comes through very nicely and with pistachio for some reason seems to make even more sense because pistachios have green on them. Yeah I know its a mental thing and I am after all somewhat mental however this may also be quite nice in a white base as well!
As per my usual I got the robust flavoring level.
Love me some Red Leaf Tea Tins as well – if you are new to ordering from them get one and see! Screw top lids make all the difference especially when it comes to matcha!
I feel that the price on them is more than fair as well.
So all in all nut my favorite nut from Red Leaf but even in saying that you can’t go wrong because it is a very fine nut matcha! Hey we all have our favorites! :)

Maple Syrup Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
100

This is just sex. Can I say that? Well anyway its better I dare to say.
Its like drinking a cup of maple syrup mixed with sweet cream and milk because I mixed this matcha powder with those things. I am going to do this review super fast because I want to go enjoy this cup alone in my room – yup its so good.
I mean the maple in this is A MAZE ING!
The flavor lingers on the lips causing a lot of licking to go down.
This is sinful.
As soon as my gift certificate is updated for reviews I am order a REALLY BIG size of this!
I get robust flavor because I like my matcha to be ROBUST!
If you are more shy you could go delicate but I dare you to go bold with this one!
You won’t want to share.
This is the matcha you don’t introduce to your friends out of fear they will take it from you!
Now to be fair I had my daughter try it and she said “Meh I’ve had better” to which I cracked up laughing as she has no idea the tone of my review and she is only 17 so what does she know right?
She only tries a sip of my matcha now and then anyway but she said she liked almond better.
I mean who can really compare one to another – life is full of flavor and we shall have it all thanks to Red Leaf Tea!
YUM!
Get yours here!

Peach HoppiTea from Butiki Teas
100

I will get this updated soon with photo and such but I just pulled out my bag today to try it after letting it meld more over the last couple of (months?) anyway its SO good!
It was good before but now the peach notes are really peeking through and the hops have tamed a little.
Very happy with my custom blend from Butiki and I will do a full review for SororiTea Sisters soon!
Loving it!

Huo Shan Yellow Sprouting from Mark T. Wendell
94

Goodness this is good! I love yellow tea! Thank you LiberTEAS for sending me some!
I am going to have to add this to my TO GET list as well!
A perfect example of yellow tea for those who may want to venture into yellows or anyone who is already a fan!
Sweet, buttery but not too buttery, creamy, slightly vegetal but not like a green, even a slight candy like flavor when cooled.
Full review on the 21st here: http://sororiteasisters.com/

Bolder Breakfast from The Tea Spot
98

My Morning Cuppa!
I love this stuff but sadly my sample is now gone. Once again thanks to Terri Harp Lady for introducing me to this tea and this tea shop!
I WILL be getting more next month!
Great quality chocolate flavor with a fruity twist, deep and robust.
I feel this is a perfect blend!
Will be reviewing on sororiteasisters.com

Almond Matcha from Red Leaf Tea
100

Almond Matcha

Stunning flavor! Accurate to the core on how almond tastes only in a sweeter version! Close to amaretto but there is a difference and I do love both! I am glad I got both as well because I contemplated if they would be too similar and not worth the cost of both however as much as I love both flavors, I had to do it and I have no regrets!

This Almond matcha is sweet and nutty. The aroma is captivating!! My daughter was in the process of making macrons and decided she will add some almond matcha to them. Unfortunately we had to stop because we were out of parchment paper – can’t use waxed …. so anyway off to the store we shall run and I am going to pick up more sparkling water because I want to make an Italian Creme Soda with this almond matcha which will be AMAZING! Frothed up lovely even in milk.

I love that Red Leaf uses natural flavors!

I got back having paused in my review here and have made my almond matcha into a lovely Italian Cream Soda! DELICIOUS! I recommend trying nearly all of the matcha flavors this way.

My matcha was composed of Basic grade matcha powder and I got the Robust flavoring – this is one that you could easily go delicate and still have enough flavor. It is that strong and that good but I am glad I did get Robust just because that is what I generally prefer but next time I may just go a level lower because it does cover up a lot of the matcha base flavor and I enjoy that very much as well. I also always get the tin, even if I have to order them later I always end up going back and getting them. They are so handy and some of the best tins I have ever come across – I love that they screw on! Easy to clean as well for your next matcha flavor.

Here is where to get yours:

Chance Combinations from Custom

Combined Strawberry Matcha (its gone now unfortunately) and Champagne Matcha both from Red Leaf Tea of course.
OH MY GAWD!
This is magic.
Sweet, comforting, delicate, delicious, love on a stick.

Cinnamon Fig from Art of Tea

I got a sampler of this from Art of Tea – comes in a cute little tin which I love.
The tea is alright.
Between this and the one other I bought they both have a very similar flavor element to them that I am not quite fond of. It could be their black tea base or could be the base flavor of the flavorings they use but its just MEH to me.
Not bad, but kind of not making me want to finish the cup either.
Better things to move along to.
Sorry Art of Tea, maybe one day I will try some of your other teas that are not in a black tea base.
Passing this one on to my sororitea sister TeaEqualsBliss.

Butterscotch from Art of Tea

This one is nagging me! It tastes like something VERY familiar yet I can’t place it and no its not butterscotch candies lol – its something else.
Aruggggg I will figure it out and update.
Well if you read the notes below the post I think I figured it out.
Regardless this one gets passed on to my sororitea sister LiberTEAS

Bio

Most of my reviews will be “snippits” of full reviews that can be found at http://sororiteasisters.com/
Posted every evening at 6 EST.
I usually try to post the exact date that the full reviews will post however sometimes post dates need changed so it may not always be correct. Generally the dates are correct however.

About Me:

Most of my reviews, although not all, will be quite favorable of the tea. This is not because all tea is excellent, but more so because I generally will not waste my time on an inferior tea. If I do not care for a tea I won’t continue to drink it let alone spend time reviewing it. If you see a review by me you basically know it is a quality tea. Granted it may not suit your specific taste buds, we all like different things, but as for a tea on the whole it is a good one, from a good company.

I am a spiritual advisor by profession.
I have two “young adult” children.
Four cats and three dogs.

Some of my hobbies include gardening, essential oil therapy, natural perfumery with essential oils, and cooking.

I look for complexity overall in any tea, dimensions to the flavors.

I believe tea should evoke a feeling, thought, emotion, or attitude.

I enjoy most all oolongs, blacks, whites, and greens.

I always love to try a good yellow tea.

I favor unadulterated teas but I do have my longings for a good flavored tea now and then so I don’t rule them out by any means!

I enjoy green rooibos don not like red rooibos.
