806 Tasting Notes

Mint Chocolate Chip from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
85

I am particular when it comes to chocolate flavored teas – chocolate anything for that matter, even just chocolate.
This is done well. It does not try to BE chocolate by over flavoring with some nasty chocolate crud that tastes nothing like chocolate.
Same with the mint – its minty but not trying to be too strong.
This is a nice balance!
It is very creamy! Let it cool down a bit and there is a malted milkshake flavor here!
I bet this would be awesome iced!
This is a sample from another order I made with Persimmon Tree but I highly recommend this to any chocolate mint lover!

Zojirushi Champagne Gold 3 LITER Water Boiler and Warmer from Teaware
100

Used this baby last night for a pu-erh session with hubby and a movie. Not once did I have to leave my seat to make water or anything. I LOVE THIS! LOVE!
Upping rating to 100!!!

Creme Brulee from DAVIDsTEA
76

Thank you to Kittenna for this lovely tea.
I am enjoying the creamy fruitiness.
I am not sure it is truly a creme brulee flavor here – I guess it depends on if you have some berries with your creme brulee but its good for whatever it is.
I do love the green rooibos base teas!!
Thank you for allowing me to give this a try!

Once Upon A Tea from SerendipiTea
55

Side by Side Comparison with Once Upon A Tea by SerenipiTea – thank you to Missy and Dylan for both samples!
This tea is okay but the flavors are just not my favorite it seems a bit on the weak side. There was just something sort of MEH about it.

Cocoa Loco is sweeter and less spicy than Once Upon A Tea
Once Upon A Tea has more complexity and depth.
Both have a creaminess to them but I believe that Cocoa Loco wins on the creaminess factor.
I am not a huge fan of either really to be totally honest.
Where one wins the other skips out and vice versa. I think I will pour them into one big mug and see what happens :)

Cocoa Loco from SerendipiTea
55

Side by Side Comparison with Once Upon A Tea by SerenipiTea – thank you to Missy and Dylan for both samples!
This tea is okay but the flavors are a bit on the weak side and the rooibos base is a little too prominent for me. It did get better as it cooled but there was just something sort of MEH about it.

Sweet Velvet Fog from iHeartTeas
77

This tea did not smell like much at all in dry form.
Steeped it smells A MAZ ING!
Taste: A very creamy indulgence! Notes of vanilla and caramel just as described!
Perfectly sweet but not too sweet!

Sweet Velvet Fog from iHeartTeas

SBT: Lime Jello from 52teas
85

This is a nice tea. Its not MY personal favorite of the SBT line but hey that does not mean it is any less YUM! I do like how it KIND of reminds me of a margarita and Im down with that especially since I do not drink anymore!
Had it today with some mexican food which is totally awesome as our yearly fiesta is going on in town.
Its a refreshing drink and palate cleansing at the same time yet has plenty of ripe juicy flavor!
I bet this would be KILLER with some sugar added!

Cantaloupe Bai Mu Dan from 52teas
75

Just a sippin on some right now. A sample from Kittenna thank you!
Somehow I keep asking for or getting samples of this one haha but thats all good.
I really would like this more with a little sugar in it but my blood sugars are running high today as it is so I can’t touch the stuff.
Any whoooooo …. been one of those days – not productive so just going to go through some samples :) WOOT!

2009 Bu Lang Gong Ting from Mandala Tea
90

My first time using my yixing pot (after a seasoning).
I sat with my Zojurishi (sp?) and enjoyed multiple steepings which were seamless with that wonderful machine from Mandala!

Steep One: 30 Seconds (after an initial rinse)
Light, Juicy mouthfeel, Dry in back of throat, Mushroom flavors, Spicy, Creamy, and my favorite flavor.. Leafy!

Steep Two: 45 Seconds
Leafy, Oaky, More Creamy than first steep, Autumnal Flavors and aromas like being in the woods after a light rain in Autumn! Love it!

Steep Three: 1 Minute
Leafy aromas with an amazing mossy flavor again the wet leaves in Autumn flavors but more prominent!
Drier, Earthy, Hay, Tingly, Mushroom.

Steep Four: 1:15 Minutes
Light, Clean, Milky, Nutty

Steep Five: 1:30 Minutes
Weaker on flavor in this steeping, Mellow, Leafy, Sweetness coming out!

Steep Six: 2:00 Minutes
About the same as the last cup but sort of getting weak. I went for another steep anyway.

Steep Seven: 2:30 Minutes
Mossy, Juicy and now Fruity!

Steep Eight: 2:45
No real flavors present although a light golden color. No notes taken, by this time I was absorbed into a movie (Red Tails – GREAT movie!)

Overall I was surprised to find I did not get any of the chocolate notes as in the description but was not disappointed! I think I will allow this to age quite a bit and re-visit it later on.
I did enjoy it very much and there were some wonderful flavor notes and a few surprises even once I began to think it was past it’s steep-ability!

A nice tea with mellow flavors through out that over all remind of me my favorite season! You can’t beat that!

On another note. My husband at first said it smelled fishy. Again that FISHY word but I proved something to him and myself.
I said rather than fishy think of it as MUSHROOMY!
He disagreed so I made him go get an organic mushroom from the fridge!
He took a bite and said OMG your right!!!

I think the two flavors are similar in some ways but distinctly different enough. Plus for most mushroom is more palatable to stomach than “fishy”.

ALSO he drank with me the entire time! I was sooooo shocked and happy!
:)

Fruits d'Alsace from Harney & Sons
95

Chaotic day – running back and forth to get daughter to work, helping my mother do some work on one of her houses she is converting to a rental, working, … have my days and nights TOTALLY mixed up AGAIN but this tea is giving me a nice moment to myself. I love this stuff. I still have not made a H and S order but its coming soon. This nice generous sample from ashmanra won’t last forever! :)

Sweet Temptation from Tsaa
92

Thank you Indigobloom for making it possible for so many of us to enjoy this delicious tea! It is so yummy! I had it awhile back but was not feeling well so I could not give it a fair review.
It does taste like Toblerone candy which is one of my most favorite chocolates!
Interestingly the more it cooled the yummier it was so I am going to make more tomorrow and let it chill in the fridge and see how I like it!
VERY good hot!
:)

Ceylon Black from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
82

Received a sample in one of my orders from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company.
There is another database for their teas here on Steepster under The Persimmon Tree as well.
Just sayin.

anyway .. strange thing is I get a mint flavor in this tea that is fairly strong.
Its not a tingle your tongue flavor but certainly picked up in the nostrils and on the mid part of the tongue.

The Persimmon Tree recommends a steep temp of 195 rather than 212.

This has a very bright juicy mouthfeel. I like that.

A robust tea though.

Not normally what I would be drinking at this time of day / night, but I was wanting to try something new from them.

There is a touch of a floral undertone in this tea but ever so delicate.

A nice black tea.

Pistachio Ice Cream from Butiki Teas
92

Just enjoying a fine cup of Pistachio Ice Cream here! LOL if I told my family or a friend that they would say Huhhhhhh?
So very yummy! I think that having let it sit a bit has made the flavors meld more as this is better than the first two times I had it!
There is something to say for revisiting teas that have sit a while!
I am raising the rating on this one due to it being even more delicious than before!

Orange Spice Royale from Element Tea
68

This tea invokes memories of Constant Comment by Bigelow.
Its good, nothing complex.
Added a touch of German Rock Sugar to help flavors come out.
Element Tea is no longer in existence but if it were I may or may not order this again.
Nothing bad about it and it is nice to have a tea that reminds me of falling in love with tea – the early days lol.
But I would have to do a side by side comparison to see if I would order this or just pick up some Constant Comment instead.
Then again if I had the time to fall in love with more of the Element teas maybe I would pick this up along with other favorites from them.
No way for me to determine this now however.
A nice tea.

Passion Fruit Jasmine from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
82

Enjoying another cup of this. I really wish that Steepster could merge the two different Persimmon Tree areas. Anyway … this is indeed a very nice Passion Fruit Jasmine tea. Mellow and relaxing and not an in your face flavor but just sort of like an easy breezy Sunday after noon drink. The flavors are relaxed and well blended to where the Jasmine and the Passion Fruit compliment each other without fighting for the focus.

Tamarind Pop from Butiki Teas
95

I love this stuff! Stacy of Butiki Teas sent me a sample a while back that accidentally had some vanilla added to it but I loved it SO MUCH that when I ordered this she included a bag of vanilla powder for me to incorporate into my blend! So I did and let it sit a good long while and now it is bliss!
That is one thing I love about Stacy – she lets you doctor up your blends when possible and is not afraid to divert from her regular blends to suit your taste. Such as the time she left out lemongrass from one of her teas for me since I dislike it so much.
She is working on a special ordered blend for me right now and I am excited to try the first sample run soon!
Thank you Stacy for always being so flexible and inventive!
As for Tamarind Pop with Vanilla. OH YEAH its GOOOOOD
Also a huge thank you to Aplhakitty who inspired this tea!!!

Biodynamic Darjeeling from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
87

Got a nice generous sample of this in a previous order and am just now getting around to trying it out.
Its a very nice darjeeling with somehow this light hint of vanilla flavor that I really enjoy!

Green Caramel from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
90

WOW! This is special. Its one of those teas you have for the first time and wonder how you lived without it for so long. The smell is intoxicatingly caramel. The leaf is so pretty with little bits of caramel and goodness here and there. Not sure what some of those little chunks are but they look pretty. :)
You absolutely can taste the green tea in this even with a nice presence of caramel.
So I really REALLY love caramel but more often than not caramel teas seem to disappoint me for some reason. Maybe I expect too much or perhaps the flavoring is too artificial in some cases. This tea delivers a true caramel flavor and a lovely green tea base that compliment each other wonderfully! Maybe somehow the rooibos helps in this blend.
I realize I have been a Persimmon Tree Tea fan girl as of late and there are a few flavors I have tired I did not care for but today has been a perfect 10 for their blends!
Oh and I got this for only .59 cents with my loyalty points and free shipping!
:) Yay!
I used three teaspoons for 16 ounces – you could go 4 teaspoons.

Sun and Cloud Mist from 52teas
French Vanilla Bean from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company
90

A very nice vanilla bean tea! A good black base that is fairly strong with a lovely french vanilla flavor! I really do love The Persimmon Tree Tea Company. I have only sampled a few flavors that are not my style but that is a personal taste thing. Most of their teas have been very satisfying. You have to try their Mandarin Silk! This one is no exception. I am choosy when it comes to both chocolate and vanilla flavorings and I really do like this one! It is great on its own but I have added a little German Rock Sugar because I have a sweet tooth right now (always).

Chocolate Chili Chai from DAVIDsTEA
68

A big thank you to Kittenna for this sample.
This one is just okay for me.
I do appreciate the nice light spice from the chilies mixed with chocolate and I think if the chocolate were a better flavor it would be darn good HOWEVER being the chocolate snob that I am I don’t care for this chocolate flavor used in this tea.
Its not too hot just so you know – it won’t cause you to break a sweat and the mixture is well balanced. My rating is only due to the use of the chocolate flavoring that is displeasing to me.

Chocolate Chili Chai from DAVIDsTEA
68
Black Pearl from Mandala Tea
97

Quick note – watching a movie – but I am sucking down cup after cup of this stuff – its SO good! Malty yumminess! Good with rock sugar too!

Most of my reviews will be “snippits” of full reviews that can be found at http://sororiteasisters.com/
Posted every evening at 6 EST.
I usually try to post the exact date that the full reviews will post however sometimes post dates need changed so it may not always be correct. Generally the dates are correct however.

About Me:

Most of my reviews, although not all, will be quite favorable of the tea. This is not because all tea is excellent, but more so because I generally will not waste my time on an inferior tea. If I do not care for a tea I won’t continue to drink it let alone spend time reviewing it. If you see a review by me you basically know it is a quality tea. Granted it may not suit your specific taste buds, we all like different things, but as for a tea on the whole it is a good one, from a good company.

I am a spiritual advisor by profession.
I have two “young adult” children.
Four cats and three dogs.

Some of my hobbies include gardening, essential oil therapy, natural perfumery with essential oils, and cooking.

I look for complexity overall in any tea, dimensions to the flavors.

I believe tea should evoke a feeling, thought, emotion, or attitude.

I enjoy most all oolongs, blacks, whites, and greens.

I always love to try a good yellow tea.

I favor unadulterated teas but I do have my longings for a good flavored tea now and then so I don’t rule them out by any means!

I enjoy green rooibos don not like red rooibos.
