493 Tasting Notes

I got it yesterday from YS US site. It took only 4 days. I’m still awaiting my order fr China which I placed a month ago. Sigh
Anyway this tea is awesome. Never thought, just gave it a shot. The brew is deep red. Wet leaves smell of prunes. The brew tastes like prunes and some leather. It’s smooth and creamy. Yum. I think I should get more of it.

Ha, I got another bag of these this week too (have had them before), love how mellow and smooth they are, with (for me at least) a very relaxing almost narcotic qi.

YS also has a 250g brick made of these same nuggets ( http://www.yunnansourcing.us/store/product.php?id_product=36 ) but the brick’s price has gone way too high. I wonder if their younger cha tou bricks are made from similarly excellent material.

haha, I see you actually got 3 of the same things I did! You’re going to LOVE the Mao Feng!

sansnipple, i have to admit its not a coincidence. I kinda “borrowed” some ideas of your order. And I’m happy i did. Haha, I hope you don’t mind;)

I’ll have to include this with my upcoming YS order of Imperial Mojiang

boychik

You should if you like sweet stone fruit notes. No earthiness . I only recommend to drink it at night. Fell asleep like a baby;)

This is a sample I got some time ago. Never opened. Jasmine just not my thing. I wanted to try to prove myself I’m wrong. The leaves are gorgeous silvery green long and unruly. Brewed in gaiwan 1 tbsp 180 ml 175F. Maybe 5 sec steeps. It is sweet, jasmine is nice and not overdone. While i appreciate the quality of this tea, it is not for me

Flavors: Flowers

I love a good jasmine! This one is superb :)

boychik

It’s yours then;)

wow, we ARE twins. i feel the same way about jasmine, just not into it, and felt the same about this tea when i tried it last spring—i could see how it was a great tea if you like jasmine, but i just don’t.

My recent purchase. I don’t know what to think of this. It has very strong leather flavor. So strong it’s like I made a brew out of new leather boots. It has sweetish aftertaste but very faint. Maybe its supposed to be this way. Wasn’t able to find any review

Flavors: Leather

mrmopar

Yeah a new one I think. I have it but have not tasted it yet.

mrmopar

Yeah I actually bought a small scale to measure the tea. I find it hard to judge weight or i did find it so till I bought the scale. I found the shou weighs more with a lesser amount than sheng seems to.

ifjuly

oh, i’m glad you like milk and sugar sometimes with intensely dark sweet pu erhs too boychik! makes me feel a little less like a heathen, haha.

i love the leather element in some pu erh, so i should check this one out!

This tea came to me from CharlotteZero – thank you!
Dry it is so beautiful. Pure gold buds. i love gold everything! Haha
Seriously gold not a speck of black or silver,or green. used 2 tbsp for 150ml gaiwan
rinse/15/30/45/1min/3min/5min/10min/ etc. this tea is so giving, i still believe there is something left. i might coldbrew it overnight, just to see what happen after so many steeps. it is honey and malt. pretty thick brew. in some steeps i’ve noticed walnuts.
it is complex tea and its hard for me to pin point all the flavors.
Thank you CharlotteZero for giving me a chance to try it. i enjoyed it a lot.

I got this totally unexpected sample from very generous CharlotteZero.
this tea smells absolutely insane – lemons, almonds, cream. dry blend is a very pretty to look at. I brew it according to Butiki : 2tsp 180F 3min 8 oz. OMG, this is unbelievable, its a dessert in a cup. I agree with ifjuly that it tastes like citrus zest. plus almonds, cream on a top. it is like a liquid macaron. this tea would be so helpful when i have sugar cravings just before going to bed. i dont believe it needs any sugar or cream. Its complete.
Thank you so much CharlotteZero for sharing with me!
