402 Tasting Notes

Autumn Harvest Laoshan Green from Verdant Tea
92

I’ve been too busy to log all my tea, but this was a sipdown. A fantastic tea too! As soon as I get my coupon from Verdant I’m placing an order for 1oz! :O

I’m getting apple butter from this one. Wow. I didn’t have that before, but I brewed this western style. Gawd, this is so good.

Premium Taiwanese Assam from Butiki Teas
96

This was the tea that I drank the most of today, but today was my daughter’s first birthday and she was getting over a cold so basically between that and the ongoing crowd of people, I wasn’t able to let go of her the whole day. So, I couldn’t really make a lot of tea. :| I’ll live – it was a great day overall, and the baby felt better during the evening so she could visit everyone else.

I can drink all the other teas later!

Lord Petersham from The Devotea
90

This was in my Amoda box! I finally got around to reviewing it after packing half of it up for TerriHarpLady.

Now I almost wish I wasn’t sharing it!! Bahahahahah. (Not really though – I have some excellent samples coming my way).

I was surprised by this. It’s smooth, yet astringent in a good way, bold, and a touch smoky! I should have had this in the morning, but I’ll resteep it and stay up instead. It’s almost a little creamy too? Wow. I’m happy I gave the Amoda box a try!

400th note!

Christmas from Murchie's Tea & Coffee
79

It’s not Christmas (obvs), and it’s not a really great morning tea (in my head it’s more for afternoons or evenings), but I like it, and I want to have it now. I only have about 2-3 cups left! :O

Strawberry Lemonade from Compass Teas
38

No. Just, no. This isn’t for me.
Maybe it’s the green rooibos? There’s some notes running underneath that I don’t like at all.

Strawberry Cream from Zen Tea
62

Office sipdown!
21 to go and I’m at 100 teas again!

Silky (Classic) Earl Grey from Teajo Teas
74

So this is the Earl Grey! And it’s a sipdown! (Much needed too, I gotta say. My samples from Courtney came in yesterday and now I’m over 230, with a Butiki order coming in the next few weeks, and some more samples from Sil! Haha. BEST problems to have).

This is a pretty decent Earl Grey. It’s really not that strong but there is a tangy astringency at the end of each sip. It’s enjoyable, but I think I prefer EGC over regular EG’s. And yes, I know I could just ADD cream, but… I’m lazy? Also I guess I’m just used to drinking it plain.

Malted ChocoMaté from 52teas
79

I think this must be the chocomate. It HAS to be because the other tumbler has Teajo’s Earl Grey in it and those are different animals.

I don’t know anything about this tea as I’m reviewing it ninja style at work, writing the text in a draft email that I’ll copy/paste from when I can pop online. It really reminds me of coffee. It’s dark and strong, and there are a few cocoa notes in there, as well as something like bark. It makes me feel like I should wake up! I haven’t hard much to eat/drink this morning besides tea so I’ll slow down on finishing this until I get some lunch, otherwise I have a feeling this will make me feel heady and dizzy.

Thank you Sil for the sample!

Oh and I can’t wait until next week when I get set up in my new office with my own computer and I won’t have to worry about people walking by and looking at me on the internet. Don’t get me wrong guys, I do work really hard. But I do it so that I can take mental breaks whenever I want them. 

Vanilla Comoro from Harney & Sons
83

Thank you Courtney! This is pretty nice! It’s sooooo creamy and sweet, and I love the vanilla contrasted with the malty notes. It really doesn’t taste like a decaf tea at all! I think I will add this to my shopping list because it’d make an excellent evening tea when I don’t really want another rooibos or honeybush tea. I’m so happy I was able to try it.

I don’t really have a lot of knowledge about H&S’s, but it seems to me that they’re a high quality tea company so maybe I should look at placing an order some day. $6 for 20 tea bags seems pretty reasonable.

Pineberry Honeybush from 52teas
80

Yum! It sorta reminds me of bubblegum, but not that super fake bubblegum flavouring. Does that make sense? I think it’s the marshmallow!

It’s sweet and fruity like strawberry and a touch creamy with the marshmallows while the pineapple does something that packages the whole thing up as its own kind of fruit. It’s rather fun and enjoyable for summer, although I don’t think that I’ll be terribly upset once it’s gone.

Also, I finally realized that when I ship these teas to Canada, I’m basically paying $12 for 2oz, and.. that’s pretty damn expensive!

I’ll package some up for Sil and TerriHarpLady as soon as I get a chance!

Blood Orange Pu'erh (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
41

I bought this tea for work and the last two times I had it were enough to show me that I’m not a big fan of it. You think I would be with licorice and orange, but… guess not? It’s my least favourite flavoured pu’erh.

Gold Rush (organic) from DAVIDsTEA
82

I’ve totally taken this tea for granted. :| I grabbed a bag when it was $2/5 at Davids, along with a few spring teas I hadn’t even tried, and 2 days later it’s gone.

It’s pretty good, but OMG is it expensive. $11.50 for 50g? And this is a heavy tea with all those mulberries. Are mulberries rare? Because there’s really not a lot of white tea in here. The 4-7 minute steep time sorta gives it away – it’s basically a fruit herbal with a dash of white.

It’s so creamy and sweet and a touch fruity. I would never buy 100g, but I DID send my bf to Brentwood to see if he could grab me two more little bags. I’ll cross my fingers.

Fengqing Dragon Pearl Black Tea from Teavivre
92

Thank you CrowKettle for the sample! (Or wait. Was is Sil? /0\ I’ll start labeling from now on I promise, but I know this one showed up with my matcha samples!!!)

I think Dragon Pearls are one of my favourite types of teas! This is just so smooth, and I love the malt and cocoa notes. Honey too! I steeped it for two minutes and that makes it nice and strong, without being overwhelming, and I’ll probably get a few more steeps out of this before I call it quits. I love how much flavour is in this black.

I believe this is nicer than the one from Zen Tea, and the tea itself is so pretty to look at. I love those little balls! It’s hard to say what makes this one “better” but it seems like there are a lot of things going on, and if I steeped it for less time and more often I would probably pick up on all sorts of things!

I guess I’ll have to keep my eyes open for a Teavivre sale because I’d like to stock up on this one. Moar please!

Pineberry Honeybush from 52teas
80

I’m so exhausted with the baby being sick and keeping me up all night that my brain is broken. I made Blueberry Afternoon from DT and Blood Orange Puerh from Davids, and I wasn’t certain which was which. Wow. Just… wow. (They were muted bc they were in travel mugs but still!!!)

So, with the above in mind, I will skip reviewing this tea. It’s nice, but I don’t trust my senses atm.

Slim and Slender from Tea Desire
73

So far being back to work hasn’t interfered too much with my tea drinking. It has interfered with checking Steepster, but next week I’ll be in a new office and hopefully I can position my monitor away from the very busy hallway behind me.

Laoshan Black from Verdant Tea
94

Finished up the last of it yesterday and re-steeped it for my morning cuppa. I’m about 500 points away from a ten dollar gift card to Verdant tea so I’ll be grabbing 2oz for sure!

… in June. I’d better wait until I get my first paycheque!

Aloha Pu'erh from DAVIDsTEA
76

I made this as an after dinner tea, but tonight it’s sorta nasty and dirty. I think I oversteeped it, but that’s the end of that sample anyway.

You know what’s funny? I poked through the tea cupboard at work today and found three little tins. Full tins. They were mine from 2 years ago when I stopped drinking tea (bc I was pregnant). I left them for others to drink and no one went for them. I’ll just take them back and hope thru aren’t stale!

They were Mighty leaf Chocolate Truffle Rooibos, DT Coco Chai, and Saigon Chai. I guess I didn’t realize rooibos was safe while pregnant.

Tiger Assam from Andrews & Dunham Damn Fine Tea
88

Yikes! This is first day of work after a year of mat leave. The company has changed so much they are giving me an orientation today with a new hire.

Because my bf is busy in classes from 8-7 today, I had to get up at 6 so I could get the baby to daycare, and be at work for 9. I’ll have to leave work early (3?) to pick her up as well. I’m going to hate Mondays! (He can drive her the other days). I should really learn to drive his car…

The baby seems to have a cold and Saturday was brutal. She was much happier yesterday but slept fitfully. I hope she’s ok at the daycare (she doesn’t seem to have contagious symptoms) but if I have to, I’ll grab a cab to pick her up if they send her home…

Too much going on today. Good thing I’ve got my Tiger tea!!!

Evening Lights - herb from Zen Tea
34

Ozli was right. This is just an… odd/awful blend. She sent me two cups, but I don’t know if I’ll bother with the second one. Or finishing this one.

Too bad because the ingredients sound interesting.

Pom Tango from DAVIDsTEA
82
Chocolate Mint Rooibos from Zen Tea
90

I lied. I snuck in one last sipdown!

No idea how this compares to other chocolate mint rooibos’, but I will need to replace it. Chocolate mint tea before bedtime is kind of essential you guys!

Irish Cream from Compass Teas
73

Last sipdown for the day. I call this a successful Sipdown Saturday!

Vicky's Sponge Cake from Bluebird Tea Co.
90

Another sipdown! 118 teas! (Down 5 today? Not bad!)

I’ll reorder this next time they have a sale!

Moroccan Mint from Zen Tea
78

Sipdown of this one! I’m trying to convince my bf that this will be tastier than the flavored spearmint water he buys, especially because he likes caffeinated drinks. Will update later with the results.

Profile

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea earlier this year and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. So far it seems that I like simple oolongs, greens and rooibos teas, and that black teas are where I go crazy with fancy flavoured blends.

Me: I’m a geek, animal lover, new mom, and bookworm. I like Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things!

Ratings:
1-50: Bleh.
51-64: It’s ok.
65-75: It’s good.
76-85: It’s very good. (Buy 1oz+)
86-100: Amazing. (ALWAYS re-stock)
