1700 Tasting Notes

The first few sips of this weren’t anything special, but then it subsided and now I’m getting a creamy EG. It’s a little astringent – I should have steeped at 205F instead of 212F. Whoops. Guess I was too busy not staring at the hooded figures to brew this correctly.

It’s good. I wouldn’t restock it though.

Sorry Carlos. You may be perfect, but your tea is not.
I’m not sure what it is? It’s strong, and chocolatey but also slightly astringent? And just… idk. Lacking.

It’s a tea that only Cecil could love.

aisling of tea

I find all of adagio’s black teas to be very astringent, and I end up steeping them at well under boiling to try and avoid it.

I’ll have to use a lower temperature next time!

This tea is sorta a jumbled mess. Much like The Weather? Approach with Caution. (by the way, the weather has become one of the best parts of the show – used for dramatic effect with songs that are either perfectly suited or perfectly ironic to the situation at hand!)

I think I’m mostly tasting the lemongrass and the other components of the thai chai. I get coconut, ginger, lemon, and just a little tiny bit of rose that I might not have even noticed if I didn’t know to expect it. As it cools, the bright thai chai notes subside a bit and the spicier chai notes come through -cardomom & cinnamon/

I’m not generally a big fan of chai’s because I drink my tea without milk & sugar, but this one is muted and nice plain. I can see why it wouldn’t be everyone’s cuppa, but I like it!

And it’s a NV tea without any mate! They’re not all mate! #nowIKnow

I’m on Operation: Welcome to Night Vale! Try all the teas! Figure out which ones taste like what? (Instead of a jumble of mate in my head)

So I’m enjoying this one a bit more. I only made 8 o z of tea this time and I think that helped – better to risk overleafing than under. It doesn’t taste so much like wet dog this time. It’s more earthy darkness with fiery cinnamon. It’s like wandering the streets on a foggy night and spotting the glow of red eyes in the distance.

It’s really actually good! I sear I’m getting a bit of creaminess too. Neat-o!

Whatever happened to the Feral Dogs? They were only in one episode, weren’t they? We really need updated teas for this fandom!

Haha wet dog.

This one isn’t a bad one, but it’s not one of the best of the Night Vale teas. It’s strongish puerh , with a bit o smoky gunpowder and sludge that is probably supposed to be an assam.

I DO miss Management in Night Vale. Sure, they were evil, but NOT AS EVIL as, Strexcorp? :| I have so many feels about the latest episode. And so muh dread for the next.

Oh, wow! This is a yabao I can get behind. It’s really light and sweet and foresty – like wind blowing through the pines. I drank it so fast that I’ll have to resteep it and look at it again!

Quick sipdown! I’ll miss this one, but refuse to buy more, so that’s that I guess! I’ll keep my eye out for alternatives!

This is one I stole from the MTTB because it looked good, only had one cup, and had a fair bit of packaging. C’mon box: close!

This is a nice bready Assam, with notes of honey, and only a little bit of astringency. Just by the smell of it, I felt it would be better with a little milk to tone it down, but I’m doing ok without it. It’s a nice brisk cup to start the morning with!

I love this tea! It’s such a great tea for a really busy but awesome day.

Some of you know I work at a special makeup effects shop. Well they need to make a toddler for a tv show and I volunteered my child as a model to make the mold. So we set up a swimming pool, filled it with toys, and then spread warm goop all over her (arms, legs, whatever we could get a hold of) and then distracted the heck out of her so she wouldn’t move while it set. And it worked! Who know a 23 m.o. could be so still! :D I can’t wait to see how the molds turn out and how the finished toddler looks. :D

(So that’s why I haven’t been logging today. It’s been a long busy day)

Your job sounds super fun :-)

That is so hilarious! Glad she was able to be still. :)

It is! Some days definitely more than others! :D
I just got this picture of the first results: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=488591CF5D9E872AAHSUEl5REszhWP0&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg

Wow, that is awesome! The little hands are so cute! I really wanted to go to special effects school in LA for a while, but I never ended up making it happen. So what worked to distract her so thoroughly? I’m about to fly with my little one and could use any suggestions to distract!

We had a few strategies – new toys, gumky candy, people to talk to her and distract her, and my tablet with Kung Fu Pands. I’m not sure that’d work for your flight, but I wish you the best of luck on your flight!

You work at a special makeup effects shop!? So cool!
Hubby and I are obsessed with watching Face Off, it’s so my dream job!

Just saw the pic, awesome! How did you get into a job like that?

Thanks! And it was mostly luck. I have a lot of history with Admin/Office Manager roles and my sister-in-law works at a shop that needed an Office Manager. So she gave me a recommendation and I was in after a short interview. I don’t do any of the hands-on stuff – I just order supplies, clean-up, make sure we get paid, and I had to create the website (http://www.mindwarpfx.com/)

I think if you’re trying to be a special fx technician you have to go to school for it? There a one-year course in Toronto, but I don’t know the name of the school. Seems like a lot of people do that, then get hired as an intern to get experience, and then it’s’ ALL about reputation and word of mouth to get recommended for other jobs.

It’s really cool what they do, but it’s not at all a lifestyle I’d like. With the Hannibal tv show we had 2 weeks at most to build everything for each episode and that lead to a lot of days where those guys worked 24 hour days, or only had 5 hours sleep total over several days. No thank you! And it’s all contract so you don’t have as much stability as you would elsewhere. But you get to create the best stuff so that is such a huge plus!

You got to see them work on stuff for Hannibal? Awesome!

Yeah I know the reality of it isn’t glamorous but it sure is cool :)
Sounds like you have a good view from your position!

It is always nice to get a reality check on “dream” jobs that never came to fruition, so thanks for that! I don’t think I’d like that schedule or the instability. I have been a body piercer by trade for a long time and the unstable income gets tiring after a while.

It is really cool. :) I even got to go check out the set for Hannibal, although most of it was locked up so I didn’t get any pictures. :| Hopefully we get Season3 and then i will. hahaha.

Yeah, it’s a tricky one. If you’re the type of person that just wants to work until the job is done, then it’s the perfect industry for you. I was very clear that I need to be 9-5 for my role and they were happy with that so it worked out extremely well!

(And I’m so freaking obsessed with Hannibal. Was before I started on the job! haha)

If I move to Toronto can you get me a job as your assistant?
Lol I will make you tea alllll day long ;)

Oh that looks so awesome! I have a friend who’s in specialFX, and it’s a long hard slog for new artists. She’s done a bunch of internships, worked on a few movies, but it’s so hard to find work. Especially if you move cities. It is ALL about networking.

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a baby girl and a devoted bf, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!

1-50: Bleh.
51-64: It’s ok.
65-75: It’s good.
76-85: It’s very good. (Buy 1oz+)
86-100: Amazing. (ALWAYS re-stock)
