I could only drink half of that DT Cold 911. I imagine it’s one to drink when your sinuses are so full that that would be the only tea you’d still taste.

It was too strong for me.

I like this one though. It’s one of my top picks from the Herbal Infusions set. That minty coolness at the end of each sip is quite nice!

Tuscanteal

I’m so done with cold teas now that I am feeling better. The whole time I was sick I wanted nothing more than cold teas, but deep down wanted a nice black. Then I’d make one and it would be such a waste. Now that I can have black again… I look at those chamomile/lemon/ginger/whatever blends and scoff.

Must…. resist…. this…. cold.
cough

It’s only a sore throat. And maybe a little bit of light-headedness (although I get that sometimes just bc?). So maybe I can fight this before it becomes an issue? At the very least I hope I can avoid getting the kid sick as I don’t want to miss work at my new job because the daycare doesn’t want her there that day.

First step: drink this tea. Second step: no kisses! Third step: get better. :)

At least I haven’t lost my sense of smell/taste. :D

VariaTEA

Oh no. Feel better Cavo!!

JustJames

believe me, i only say these words in dire circumstances….. oil of oregano.

Pandeme

I’ve been drinking this today too, hopefully it helps. Feel better!! :)

Cavocorax

Thanks guys! Guess I’ll know tomorrow if this is a real cold or not. :)

Cavocorax

Thanks! I guess I’ll know by tomorrow if this is a real cold or not. :)

caile

Hopefully the sore throat doesn’t linger and you feel well soon!

JustJames – how do you use the oil of oregano?

Tuscanteal

I second oil of oregano.

I use it straight under my tongue, or I put it in warm/hot tap water and swish it around in my mouth and let go slowly down my throat to coat it. Usually if I have it right before I feel truly sick, I can kick the cold to the can.

Pandeme

I’m going to have to try that today, hopefully it works for me! My bff is getting married this weekend, and as her maid of honor I definitely don’t want to be sick.

caile

Thanks for that info, Tuscanteal! I’ll have to get some of this as have a lot of oils but not oregano.

Cavocorax

I’d never heard of that with oil of oregano. Interesting!

And good luck Pandeme!!!

JustJames

oil of oregano: proper use: four drops under the tongue straight for two minutes… then dunk your tongue in a shot glass of milk (unless you’re lactose intolerant).

the ’i’m afraid’ method: 4 drops in water and chugged. with much more fluid then chugged.

it is the strongest natural INTERNAL anti microbial to my knowledge.

caile

Thank you, JustJames! I do need to get this – not sure which method I’ll use yet. ;-)

JustJames

the four straight under the tongue works best and fastest….. but you feel it. big time!

Tuscanteal

You learn to love it though…

caile

Lol! Good to know! :-)

So I had another cup of this today, as it was free with my Teavana order. It still had too much sweetener, even after I picked out some of the rock sugar. The first cup was good as a sweet treat, but I couldn’t drink the second.

I made the mistake of steeping DAVIDs’ Chai on Life afterwards and couldn’t taste too much bc my mug/steeper were still contaminated. Yikes!

JustJames

i do love these two together.

Cavocorax

If you buy them (as opposed to getting the free sample) does it come with the rock sugar? BC I’d be all over this if it didn’t!

OMGsrsly

I don’t think it does, but you have to buy 4 oz! 2 oz of each tea…

VariaTEA

I bought 100 g of this and it does not come with the rock sugar. I actually have way more than I need so I am happy to send some your way Cavo. You would actually be doing me a favor :)

Cavocorax

ORLY? :O
Well I think I’d be interested in a trade then VariaTEA! I’ve got more tea then when you last look so let me know if anything catches your eye!

VariaTEA

Will do and feel free to rummage through my cupboard and let me know if anything appeals to you. I will measure how much of this blend I have and let you know, that way you can tell me how much you want me to send your way.

Cavocorax

Sounds good! To the cupboards I go! :O
I think I “owe” you a few samples from last time too as you were extra generous. :P

VariaTEA

Oh no you don’t! I am still working through our first swap because you were insanely generous. It was so lovely getting my little tea box. Alas, my dogs like it too and ate it :(

MissB surprised me with a few cups of this one, so I knew I had to have a cup today. Sadly I over steeped it and it was a little too strong (but still good). American Tea Room has a sale on now where you get 2oz of Brioche for free if you spend $30 but aside from Brioche there’s not much else there that’s tempted me yet. And I’m not spending $40 (w/shipping) on “free” tea. :P I"M NOT FALLING FOR THAT AGAIN.

Also, I have a well stocked cupboard.

MissB

$40? That’s ridiculous. Why so much?

Cavocorax

I just mean I’d be buying $30 of tea that I hadn’t planned on, as well as paying shipping. :)

Sil

…OR joint orders through the tea mule to get free shipping = hitting the mark sooner :P

ifjuly

is it brioche or brioche free? i was thinking it was brioche free, which is an herbal that to me anyway bears little resemblance to brioche (it’s more like david’s forever nuts).

anyway, i’m on hiatus so it’s moot for me. just checkin’.

ifjuly

(brioche free that’s the “free tea” in the promotion, i mean)

Cavocorax

Oh it was Brioche Free! :O Thanks for pointing that out – I’m not as interested in that. (lurks back into hiatus)

Cavocorax

Sil – yes. That’s an excellent point!

So there’s something in this that I just don’t care for. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s also the same flavour I noticed in Butiki’s Raspberry Truffle, and that I think was also in her Rhubarb Vanilla Ale or Ruby Pie. (one of them). It’s dark, a little bitter and … salty, for lack of a better word.

If I can ignore it, this tea is fine. If I can’t, it’s not so great. I’ll resort to a dash of milk then.

Still. I wish I could figure out what it is. Am I just sensitive to some random flavour? :P

This is an interesting tea that I probably would never have tried on my own, but am happy to have had stumble into my path.

I remember having genmaicha over a year ago and enjoying it, but not enough to drink it over my favourite black teas. I don’t know what it is about this one that makes it different, but I really enjoyed this one. The soft buttery notes and the strong toastiness are such a great combo. I immediately re-steeped this after I drank it, and then gave 1/3 of that cup to my demanding daughter who walked around with it in her bottle for a bit before she drank it all.

I’ll have to check out Sara’s Tea Caddie in the spring once I feel even more like drinking green teas!

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 4 min, 0 sec
VariaTEA

Nina’s Japon is a really tasty genmaicha because it is a vanilla, caramel genmaicha and it is both a green and black base. I can send you some if you would like to try it. I also liked Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha because the marshmallow adds a nice sweetness to make the flavor more rounded. I can send you some of that as well :)

Cavocorax

Oooh, thanks for the offer, but I think I’m ok. I’ve actually had both of those. I do remember liking Nina’s Japon. Thanks for reminding me it’s out there!

And I did like the Marshmallow Genmaicha sample, but the last time I ordered flavoured Genmaicha from 52 Teas it was lacking somehow and not worth the price of shipping etc. :\ I’m nervous about trying again.

IDK what it was with this but this Genmai Hojicha, but it was good. And so simple too. Although I wouldn’t say no to some vanilla and caramel…

VariaTEA

haha I have actually been craving the Nina’s Japon since I had it. Luckily I bought a large tin of it so I have lots for me and enough to share. Perhaps I will have some tomorrow now that my taste has seemingly returned :)

Cavocorax

Yay for being able to enjoy your tea! And dud you order it from Amazon?

VariaTEA

I actually got to go to their office in Miami. They made me a cup there and I ended up buying a large tin from them directly. They also made me a cup of The de Vendome and I bought a tin of that too.

Cavocorax

That’s right! I remember Siemens idea that, but…umm…. forgot who. :p That’s so awesome!

VariaTEA

Hopefully I will be able to visit again the next time I am in Florida. It was nice meeting them all and I would love to just go and pick up the teas I liked from them directly. So much easier than having to order online.

Thanks MissB for this one!
You know, it’s not bad! It does have a fairly strong rooibos flavour, but that works well with the raspberry. I don’t get enough chocolate flavours but to be fair I NEVER get enough chocolate in tea.

Overall: This is good!

Also, my cupboard is up to 160, with about 20 more on the way. :O I’m bringing all my sipdown sized teas to the office! I bought paper tea filters to steep in instead of my timolino’s and that’s MUCH BETTER. I don’t have time to clean my filter baskets out at the shop so this allows me to get through 6 cups in a shift! :D

__Morgana__

Good idea on taking the sip downs to the office. I may have to borrow it!

Fjellrev

I agree about the filters! I did that when I had to stay in a dorm last summer and it was so much easier than fiddling with the basket in the Timolino.

MissB

Oops. My bad about the additions to your cupboard. ;) Glad you liked this one!

Cavocorax

Haha. I’m never actually that upset about my cupboard expanding, especially when it’s all stuff from my shopping list! :D

This was one of the ones I bought from MissB! I’ve heard so much about S&V teas but haven’t made the jump to an order because I was afraid of the shipping costs (which are actually cheaper than listed to Canada if you just email and ask, or phone to place your order!)

Anyway, I was slightly disappointed with this, as I steeped it for 4.5 minutes and it was a little bitter. So perhaps I just need to steep it less. I’ll try it again tomorrow! (I’m not that disappointed. It smells really good and I fell it just needs a little tweaking to pop!)

Sil

…I miss tea….

Cavocorax

Awww. You couldn’t bring any with you?

Fjellrev

Yeah, I was an ignoramus and absorbed the $33+ shipping they threw at me at checkout.

Poor Sil. :(

Cavocorax

I know it’s been a while, but maybe if you email them and mention that the catalog says shipping to Canada is $9 there, they would refund the difference? Can’t hurt to ask!

MissB

Oh, yes… I found steeping this 2-3 minutes is what works best. I would email them, they’ve been great with me about shipping. Wait… pam at svtea dot com is who I spoke with just the other day.

Sil

the hotel i was in had no kettle. the office? no kettle…. my pass? didn’t work so i didn’t want to beg someone to take me out for tea…

Cavocorax

Oh, that makes sense! I hope you’re better set up for your next city!

OMGsrsly

Sil, that’s terrible! :( (And I’m being serious here.)

I brought this tea with me for my commute home to keep me warm and happy. It’s so good. I wish I could buy more.

I only have 1 cup left. Sad! But every tea I sipdown at work means another one adds to the rotation!

VariaTEA

I would buy a pound of this if I could. Luckily I got the duplicate packages so I have a second bag of this that I am hoarding :P

Cavocorax

Haha -sneaky!
Hopefully they check back on our reviews and resurrect some of these.

VariaTEA

I hope so. Like I said, I would buy A LOT of this one if they made it available.

MissB

I sent in a note when I received their tea blending package announcement; I’m hoping we can do a large (group?) re-order of this. Stay tuned…

VariaTEA

Oh MissB, you wonderful enabler!

Not bad. It’s more herbal than puerh at a time I wanted puerh.

It was also a sipdown!

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Yet.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a baby girl and a devoted bf, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!
