So there’s something in this that I just don’t care for. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s also the same flavour I noticed in Butiki’s Raspberry Truffle, and that I think was also in her Rhubarb Vanilla Ale or Ruby Pie. (one of them). It’s dark, a little bitter and … salty, for lack of a better word.

If I can ignore it, this tea is fine. If I can’t, it’s not so great. I’ll resort to a dash of milk then.

Still. I wish I could figure out what it is. Am I just sensitive to some random flavour? :P

This is an interesting tea that I probably would never have tried on my own, but am happy to have had stumble into my path.

I remember having genmaicha over a year ago and enjoying it, but not enough to drink it over my favourite black teas. I don’t know what it is about this one that makes it different, but I really enjoyed this one. The soft buttery notes and the strong toastiness are such a great combo. I immediately re-steeped this after I drank it, and then gave 1/3 of that cup to my demanding daughter who walked around with it in her bottle for a bit before she drank it all.

I’ll have to check out Sara’s Tea Caddie in the spring once I feel even more like drinking green teas!

Nina’s Japon is a really tasty genmaicha because it is a vanilla, caramel genmaicha and it is both a green and black base. I can send you some if you would like to try it. I also liked Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha because the marshmallow adds a nice sweetness to make the flavor more rounded. I can send you some of that as well :)

Cavocorax

Oooh, thanks for the offer, but I think I’m ok. I’ve actually had both of those. I do remember liking Nina’s Japon. Thanks for reminding me it’s out there!

And I did like the Marshmallow Genmaicha sample, but the last time I ordered flavoured Genmaicha from 52 Teas it was lacking somehow and not worth the price of shipping etc. :\ I’m nervous about trying again.

IDK what it was with this but this Genmai Hojicha, but it was good. And so simple too. Although I wouldn’t say no to some vanilla and caramel…

VariaTEA

haha I have actually been craving the Nina’s Japon since I had it. Luckily I bought a large tin of it so I have lots for me and enough to share. Perhaps I will have some tomorrow now that my taste has seemingly returned :)

Cavocorax

Yay for being able to enjoy your tea! And dud you order it from Amazon?

VariaTEA

I actually got to go to their office in Miami. They made me a cup there and I ended up buying a large tin from them directly. They also made me a cup of The de Vendome and I bought a tin of that too.

Cavocorax

That’s right! I remember Siemens idea that, but…umm…. forgot who. :p That’s so awesome!

VariaTEA

Hopefully I will be able to visit again the next time I am in Florida. It was nice meeting them all and I would love to just go and pick up the teas I liked from them directly. So much easier than having to order online.

Thanks MissB for this one!
You know, it’s not bad! It does have a fairly strong rooibos flavour, but that works well with the raspberry. I don’t get enough chocolate flavours but to be fair I NEVER get enough chocolate in tea.

Overall: This is good!

Also, my cupboard is up to 160, with about 20 more on the way. :O I’m bringing all my sipdown sized teas to the office! I bought paper tea filters to steep in instead of my timolino’s and that’s MUCH BETTER. I don’t have time to clean my filter baskets out at the shop so this allows me to get through 6 cups in a shift! :D

__Morgana__

Good idea on taking the sip downs to the office. I may have to borrow it!

Fjellrev

I agree about the filters! I did that when I had to stay in a dorm last summer and it was so much easier than fiddling with the basket in the Timolino.

MissB

Oops. My bad about the additions to your cupboard. ;) Glad you liked this one!

Cavocorax

Haha. I’m never actually that upset about my cupboard expanding, especially when it’s all stuff from my shopping list! :D

This was one of the ones I bought from MissB! I’ve heard so much about S&V teas but haven’t made the jump to an order because I was afraid of the shipping costs (which are actually cheaper than listed to Canada if you just email and ask, or phone to place your order!)

Anyway, I was slightly disappointed with this, as I steeped it for 4.5 minutes and it was a little bitter. So perhaps I just need to steep it less. I’ll try it again tomorrow! (I’m not that disappointed. It smells really good and I fell it just needs a little tweaking to pop!)

Sil

…I miss tea….

Cavocorax

Awww. You couldn’t bring any with you?

Fjellrev

Yeah, I was an ignoramus and absorbed the $33+ shipping they threw at me at checkout.

Poor Sil. :(

Cavocorax

I know it’s been a while, but maybe if you email them and mention that the catalog says shipping to Canada is $9 there, they would refund the difference? Can’t hurt to ask!

MissB

Oh, yes… I found steeping this 2-3 minutes is what works best. I would email them, they’ve been great with me about shipping. Wait… pam at svtea dot com is who I spoke with just the other day.

Sil

the hotel i was in had no kettle. the office? no kettle…. my pass? didn’t work so i didn’t want to beg someone to take me out for tea…

Cavocorax

Oh, that makes sense! I hope you’re better set up for your next city!

OMGsrsly

Sil, that’s terrible! :( (And I’m being serious here.)

I brought this tea with me for my commute home to keep me warm and happy. It’s so good. I wish I could buy more.

I only have 1 cup left. Sad! But every tea I sipdown at work means another one adds to the rotation!

VariaTEA

I would buy a pound of this if I could. Luckily I got the duplicate packages so I have a second bag of this that I am hoarding :P

Cavocorax

Haha -sneaky!
Hopefully they check back on our reviews and resurrect some of these.

VariaTEA

I hope so. Like I said, I would buy A LOT of this one if they made it available.

MissB

I sent in a note when I received their tea blending package announcement; I’m hoping we can do a large (group?) re-order of this. Stay tuned…

VariaTEA

Oh MissB, you wonderful enabler!

Not bad. It’s more herbal than puerh at a time I wanted puerh.

It was also a sipdown!

Backlog: woke up with this one this morning and it was good. Not particularly memorable though. Sorry Breakfast tea!

Busy, busy weekend is over, and our guests are all gone, and the dishes are washed and now I’m enjoying some quiet time with J and the munchkin, both of whom I feel I barely saw at all since Thursday!

This is a great cup to relax with, even though it turns my cup a sickly green.

Really sickly. Just drink it in a dark cup so you don’t see it.

(I have 216 notices to catch up on/read! :O)

VariaTEA

When you make it as a latte, that also cuts down on some of the grossness and oil. Happy relaxing btw!

Cavocorax

Oh, good tip! Thanks!

We had friends visiting all weekend and it was great, but we basically ate out for every meal or ordered in and all my dishes are dirty and there’s lot to clean up.

I’m going to drink this instead. :) I’m allowed to relax. People tire me out. Tea doesn’t. A dash of sugar and a splash of milk don’t hurt either!

Courtney

I was just contemplating what to have next, and this reminded me I also have this tasty tea.

Cavocorax

Hee! I love when that happens!

OMGsrsly

Tea is infinitely easier to socialize with. ;)

Cavocorax

Yes! Tea wins!

VariaTEA

Ever since I got into teas, my friends and I now have “tea parties” in which I always bring the tea to share. My friends from back home had a party when I was in Florida and were all sad to go without the wonderful options I bring for them.

I’m waiting outside for a bus that isn’t coming after all, so now waiting for J to rescue me. But it’s ok. I have this tea.

It’s warm, and bright and sweet and comforting and it helps me forget the snow falling on my face and the lack of gloves.

I love it.

(our car didn’t have enough room for all our guests so I volunteered to bus to the breakfast place, except the Sunday bis schedule meant my by and turned before picking me up! Whoop s Good thing J can come back easily)

OMGsrsly

Oh no! Glad you have tea. :)

Profile

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Yet.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a baby girl and a devoted bf, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!
