drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

Backlog from when I was at the mall today:

Woo! Good. I still like it! I wasn’t sure because some of the ultra-crazy-sugary blends no longer appeal to me as much now that I’ve discovered the beauty of Butiki and Verdant teas, but THIS is one I still love.

It’s just… fall in a cup. I break all the rules for this one. I love it as a latte with brown sugar, but will settle for some with a dash of milk.

I started this season with 50g. I’ll probably buy more later, but I didn’t need a free tin, and would prefer smaller foil bags right now.

OMGsrsly

My goal is to empty a tin for Pumpkin Chai. :) I had this one iced today. Did they give it to you iced, as well? So different.

Cavocorax

Ummm.. shoot. I can’t remember if my sample was iced or not! But I had a go cup with milk so that erased the sample from my memory. :P

keychange

Hmmm, I’ve never tried ordinary brown sugar in tea. Do you think that’s the kind of sugar they’re talking about? or the special rock variety? and, I’m still playing around with quantities and times and such for this tea myself. I think I’ll use double the leaf next time.

OMGsrsly

Keychange, I’ve used ordinary brown sugar, but brown sugar is different depending where you are in the world. The stuff I use is the kind with molasses added back into it, so it’s really soft and sticky and packs well.

keychange

oh wow omgsrsly, I didn’t know brown sugar wasn’t just the same everywhere. I’d never heard of it having molasses in it—that’s interesting. Maybe i’ll try a bit of the ordinary (non molasses) version in my tea. Their website doesn’t really suggest what kind of brown sugar they’re getting at. I feel as though I always need “permission” to experiment though, as I’ve never actually used brown sugar for anything other than baking LOL.

OMGsrsly

The only reason I know is from cooking shows on YouTube. :) What I see as turbinado here is what’s called brown sugar in other places. It’s a free flowing crystal, that’s brown instead of white. Food names are so weird.

drank Pistachio Cream by DAVIDsTEA
1630 tasting notes

Ok, so tea 3/5 of the new collection!

I really like Mulberry Magic, so I thought I would try this out. It smells divine! I’m not a big pistachio nut (ha! see what I did there?) but I do enjoy the creaminess to this tea. I may even prefer it to Mulberry Magic because of that. It’s very soothing and comforting. I wonder how well it would re-steep?

ETA: I re-steeped it for 6 minutes but it was bland/flat. Most DT’s don’t resteep well so I’m not that surprised.

ah! and this one too?! I want… Hmmm

drank Cocoberry by DAVIDsTEA
1630 tasting notes

So, am I the only DAVIDsTEA fangirl who rushed off to DT today to look at the new stuff? I even popped online last night to see the new stuff in advance!

I ended up trading a brand new perfect mug in for the Heat Sensitive Nordic Mug. (http://www.davidstea.com/leaf-outline-heat-sensitive-nordic-mug?&TF=D36B1B50DFA0&DEID=) I love the shape and feel of the Nordic Mugs more, and… heat sensitive? OH YES. It still doesn’t replace my trees PM from last fall, but this will do. I wanted to get the animal print one, but they didn’t have it in store yet (http://www.davidstea.com/multicolor-animals-mug?&TF=D36B1B50DFA0&DEID=). For $20, maybe I’ll grab one later on – maybe as a reward for finding a job in ON once I get over there. :D

Anyway, on to the tea? This one reminds me of a fruity coffeeish drink. It’s roasty and warm, but the cherries sweeten it up, and there’s a lingering mate taste. I think this would be a great cup for mornings when I need a kick, but don’t actually want coffee. The nice thing about this is I can drink it plain; coffee I always have to add milk and sugar in order to gulp it down. Tea wins!

Well, I guess this tea has sugar cane it in, so it’s cheating a bit, but it’s still probably better than just dumping in a tbsp of sugar, right?

I’ll hold off on rating it until I try it again as right now I’m just squeeing about everything DT. I should know better, but it’s fun being excited. ;P

ETA: This DID re-steep well!

We suck so much for rushing over to grab the new stuff haha.

Stephanie

Glad to see reviews of the new fall stuff so quick! I don’t live near a David’s Tea!

Fuzzy_Peachkin

Lol! I did the same thing! :-)

OMGsrsly

This one smells SO good, I just really wish it didn’t have coffee beans in it. Oh well. :)

Indigobloom

Wow this sounds good! I’m wary of the coffee though lol

MissLena

Youre definitely not alone lol i ran off to there after my appointment today, only picked up sugar and spice and my beloved pumpkin chai, and some redberry tonic, i’m waiting for the TOTM :) then I’ll go back lol, oh and I splurged on the leaf Nordic, i love the shape too!

OMGsrsly

MissLena, the staff in my local store were testing out the tea of the month. They said it’s fantastic. :) My fingers are crossed!

Cavocorax

Eeee! I want to try it!

Amariel

I am gonna try this one in the morning before work. I only got 12g or so of the 3 new ones and I tried the others tonight, but wanted to wait on this one. It looks like it has so much good stuff in it.

CHAroma

What! Heat sensitive leaf cup? How did I miss that?!!! So jealous. What colors do the leaves change to?

Cavocorax

They turn reddish-orange and yellow. Its not as nice as the forest print they had last year but I like it.

Thank you OMGSrsly. This is so good. What the heck does Mom’s Apple Pie taste like, cuz THIS tastes like apple pie to me…. Mmmmm…

The almonds give it a bit of crumbly/crust taste too.

Preparation

Amariel

Mom’s Apple Pie is spicier, I think.

OMGsrsly

:) I’m curious to smell/try Mom’s Apple Pie when it comes out.

Why does this make me think of coffee? I keep emptying my cup before I fully review it. Good thing I stopped for the last few sips!

So I am getting a nice black base, hazelnut and vanilla, and a bit of creaminess which I assume is from the coco bean? It’s very smooth and luxurious, and only a little astringent. I really enjoy this.

I’ve really enjoyed a lot of these flavoured Bayswater teas. Sil and Kittenna – you guys better like them too because I might want to order more and want to split the shipping cost! I split your samples up, double-baggie’d them, and then wrapped them in tin foil for MAXIMUM freshness. :P Now that I’ve done this, I can fit my parts into my travel box and drink them all before I see you guys.

Sil

Haha goose.

OMGsrsly

This one makes me think of coffee too! Heather said it might be the burnt sugar smell. I really want to mix this one with some of the nougat tea tonight.

Amariel

Yeah, I get a very strong coffee vibe from it. I do think it is the burnt sugar giving a roasted/toasted smell reminiscent of coffee.

I steeped this at the lower end of the recommended 10-15 minutes and I won’t be so meek next time. This is enjoyable as it is, but either because of the tea itself, or just because I’m too exhausted, I find it too mild for me at present.

I get a lot of honeybush, a bit of sandalwood, and some orange undercurrents. I like it, but I just want more WHAMMO.

OMGsrsly

I haven’t been brave enough to try this. :)

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

This sounds odd, but also pretty good. Tho I read undercurrents to be “and currants”.

drank Slim and Slender by Tea Desire

Side complaint: Why is it that when I type in the tea I’m searching for, the box that drop down immediately shows the one I want, and then it quickly hides it and replaces it with a bunch of teas – some of which are barely related to my search? :| It’s annoying.

And on to this tea! I tried to give this away for the meet-up, but no one jumped on it. I wasn’t sure if I should keep it, but after steeping it I drank the whole cup, so yes. Yes I should. It’s one that I like but never expect to.

Tea, why are you so complicated?

MissLena

I’ve noticed the search bar is a bit weird still too, maybe it’s still a bug from the update :(

Fjellrev

That’s been driving me insane too. I just started going to the company’s page already.

JustJames

that’s been bugging me…. but here’s a new one, try typing in ‘indian’ as in ‘indian nimbu’ and read what pops up 7th from the top. i was underwhelmed.

OMGsrsly

Fourth from the top for me, James!

Fjellrev

Ha! Tenth from the top for me.

JustJames

should we rewrite the information? offer scathing ratings? i did tattle, but i imagine jason’s been busy debugging stuff lately. seriously unbelievable that they would think to advertise here!

Fjellrev

I like the idea of trolling it. :D

JustJames

heh heh heh….. brb.

drank Cantaloupe & Cream by Butiki Teas
1630 tasting notes

Hmmmm. I thought I’d better drink this up because everyone is talking about autumn this, and pumpkin that and cantaloupes don’t really fit in there, do they?

I am completely ready to embrace the new fall teas, but I should maybe drink more of the spring ones I bought. Oh well. I drank Pumpkin Chai in March, I can drink grassy greens in November.

This one is nearly done though. :(

infused1

I have a Pumpkin spice tea from Tealux that I swear tastes like cantaloupe. I think I actually compared it to Butiki’s Cantaloupe and Cream.

Fjellrev

I must be a freak but I loved drinking this during the winter.

JustJames

i had the traditional plum pudding in summer…. christmas in july!

Dexter

I agree with infused1 Pumpkin spice from Tealux is more cantaloupe than pumpkin but really good.

Cavocorax

Interesting! Maybe I’ll try it.

ifjuly

yeah, sometimes it’s actually more fun to drink teas off season as an escape/getaway. like. “it’s dark all the time and i thought i’d only be able to dream about fresh fruit for another 4 months, but!”

This is another one I picked up from the Steepster Meet-Up! I’m setting a bit aside for Sil and Kittenna as it’s pretty good, and I’m certain my 25g will not last long.

It’s Earl Grey, but not overwhelmingly so, and the grapefruit balances it out nicely. I… well, I guess I drank my cup too quickly to properly review it, but that’s not a bad sign is it?

I snagged this and the Mint Julep pitcher packs just because I have no willpower when I see things on sale sometimes. I don’t regret it though – this pitcher will last me we move, and then I’ll make the Mint Julep in Vernon so I have something chilled there as well.

Gotta load the truck up Friday morning. I’m going to have to pack my tea survival kit soon. I don’t want to pack my tea up, but… well, I’m going to have to at some point! Maybe on Wednesday after I check out the new Fall Stuff at DavidsTea! (Then buy more than I should and hide it away in the box so no one notices it! Bwahahah)

caile

I liked those pitcher packs.
Haha- hopefully no ones notices the packing box for your tea keeps getting heavier..or bigger!

Cavocorax

Hehehe. That’s the plan. (I’m so awful!)

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Yet.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a baby girl and a devoted bf, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!
