Spiced Apple Chai from Adagio Teas
87

I’ve found lately that most cider is too sweet for me. This tea offers a great alternative, having the wonderful aroma of cider without being so overwhelmingly sweet. This is exactly what I wanted out of this tea. I’ve found that both the flavor of the apple and the spices is quite clear, but doesn’t overpower the tea flavor either. Perhaps I got an abnormally well mixed batch?

It drives me crazy that all the hard ciders readily available on the US market today are so sweet. 15 years ago you could get a really good, dry, hard cider but not anymore. So gross with all that sugar.

I was actually referring to the hot spicy apply drink (should have specified), but that does not stop you from being totally right. You get really spoiled for cider as soon as you leave the US

Ah, that kind of cider, I make my own spices and heat it myself and just don’t add sweetener. Sadly, the cider press I worked at when I was a teen no longer exists - they didn’t pasteurize which meant you could also make your own -hard cider, complete with spices.

Best thing I ever had, a friend tried to make hard cider at home using a beer kit, and added fresh ginger. Having never used it before, he put in way too much. So instead of apple cider with ginger, he basically made ginger beer. No one but me liked it, so I bought all 20 gallons off him. Amazing.

Bio

I’m a Pole who grew up in Texas, is currently a graduate student in California studying Japan. How’s THAT for random?

Being Polish, my family has always drunk a lot of tea, and I am no different. I may drink more tea than water. On the other hand, I can’t say that I’m very particular about it; I’m generally pretty careless with steeping times and water temperature and I don’t even have a proper teapot (mostly because the lid broke during the move to California ;_;).

I always drink my tea unsweetened and I only add milk in the case of the most egregiously chai-ish of chais. (not really a big fan of milk in general)

Given that so many of my entries seem to be about my morning tea, I felt I should add something here about me and mornings: I fail at mornings. I fail at them a LOT. Therefore I often also fail at proper tea making in the mornings.
