545 Tasting Notes
Well, this reverted back to tasting like a more bitter black tea with perhaps a hint of maple after coming out with maple-y cake-y goodness just the other day. I made it pretty much exactly the same too. I don’t know what happened. I had been looking forward to having it again.
The second steep a bit later came out better. I could taste the pancake-iness some but not really any maple.
2nd steep: 7 mins.
Preparation
I cannot believe I haven’t had this since I decided not to put the massive backlog into Steepster and it’s not in my cupboard on here. [edit: Apparently, I have logged this tisane on Steepster. I just forgot to add it to my cupboard.] This is one of my favorite herbal creations that I’ve had from 52 Teas. I love love love and hearts it.
It tastes like a date nut muffin and is eminently drinkable. I usually finish my first cup before I even notice I have.
2nd steep: 12 mins.
Preparation
From 52 Teas’ 2011 Xmas sampler, the first time I had this tea I remember getting a general sweet that I could think about and maybe get maple. I didn’t see what all the fuss was and didn’t think it tasted like pancake breakfast.
Last night, I decided that I wanted to have this tea again in the morning when I was looking through what I had left still from the Xmas sampler. I woke up this morning and steeped up a cup. Both the dry leaf and the steeped tea smelled of maple syrup, the dry leaf smelling more so. Sipping, I got the maple right away but I had to hunt for any hint of pancake and I’m still not sure I found it. As the tea cool, it hit its sweet spot and I started to enjoy the cup quite a bit. I think I’ll want to drink this one again instead of putting the rest away thinking of it as something I have to finish off at some time. I think I have about 2 servings left.
I had the second steep a few hours later and it was lightly maple and lightly tea but still drinkable.
2nd steep: 6 min 30 sec.
Preparation
Yesterday I woke up not hungry enough for breakfast yet and just made myself a cup of this tea. I made it the same way as I did the previous day with the same results – a bit more leaf and a bit longer steep. I enjoyed the cup of tea; it’s definitely better made this way.
I had the second steep while online that afternoon. Light, but I think drinkable.
2nd steep: 7 mins
Preparation
Skipping over a backlog of tasting notes numbering in the mid 30s. I had hoped doing that the first time was a one time thing; now I’m just hoping this doesn’t become a habit.
This tea had been pretty meh and generic to me. Nice, but not something I find myself reaching for. It isn’t very strong so I don’t find myself drinking it in the morning when I can’t decide what I want either.
So I have started to tinker with it. I’ve really only had a it few times so far. I increased the steeping time and the amount of leaf I used a little.
Now it seems like a more solid version of its former self, if that makes any sense, and I do like it more this way. I don’t know how much more I could increase the steeping time or leaf amount without it veering into too bitter or too strong tasting.
It paired well with a mango and some strawberries and made for a tasty breakfast.

Even after the raspberry black tea, I still needed some more caffeine and I was still very much on my Boston kick of early on after trying it. I did not get the wonderful that I got off the possibly increased steeping time and increased amount of leaves by steeping it 5 minutes. But it was still every bit at lovely as it had been the first two times.
Resteeped after a 5 minutes first steep, the second steep comes out too watery to really be enjoyed. If I end up preferring it with a longer steeping time on the first steep, I think this will end up being a single steep tea. But I’m not sure I’ve going to notice much of a different between a 4 and a 5 minute steep.
2nd steep: 11 mins.
Preparation
Backlog. 14 days ago – Sunday morning. (And yes, my backlog of jotted down tasting notes has grown. But it’s not that long.)
I was fishing a tea I was going to drink out of the tea annex the other day and I saw this and thought I really like that tea and I haven’t drank it in awhile.
2nd steep: 9 mins.

I remember that there was a special reason for having Jackee that morning, but I do not remember what. Quite probably my day was already off to a crappy start and I needed some very good tea. I’m rationing somewhat, but I will miss this one so much when it’s gone.
2nd steep: 8 mins.

I like the Boston black tea so much I couldn’t wait to have it again. And it was every bit as enjoyable as the first time I had it. I think I maybe have used a bit more leaf and steeped it a bit longer. It tasted very good this way tho. I may increase the steeping time to the full five minutes next time to see if I prefer it that way.
The second steep was very weak. To the point of being undrinkable as tea. So I think if I end up going with a longer first steep, this is a single steep tea. Which kind of sucks because I’ve wanted a second cup immediately both times I’ve had it.
I am really regretting the small amount of this tea that I have.
