I opened this one today – my present for getting my cupboard weight down more than anticipated in March. Let me tell you the dry leaf on this one is amaaazeballs. I made my other half smell this one and he immediately said chocolate., instead of saying “dirt” like he always does. I wish the brewed version of the tea was as chocolatey as the dry leaf – instead it turns into a VERY pleasant more typical yunnan golden bud. That’s not to say it was delicious and thoroughly enjoyable, just lacking the intensity of the chocolate aroma of the dry leaf. :)
Almost through this one, especially if i set aside a little for Terri and Dexter…and that’s a sad thing. I really enjoy this one from Bellocq – though in fairness, i didn’t try it against my other favourite from teavivre, so there’s a chance the other is just as good.
bumping the rating up on this one a little as i think it’s one of my favourites from bellocq. I can’t be bothered remembering prices at the moment, but i think? it’s worth the price if memory serves. Had this earlier in the week as it’s been insane at work these days and i needed a great kick off to the morning. I think work might start slowing down by like december? ugh.
having a bit of a slow day today until my other half gets back from digging in the woods. I figure it was a good morning to just take some time and drink a few cups of this one. Really love it..just wish it wasn’t so expensive. On that note….really super curious about the laoshan black tea yunnan sourcing is now carrying….hoping someone gives it a shot or i can find a sale soon to pick some up.
noms. another comforting tea for a very long day. just one more to go before i get a little bit of RnR (while i work). Thankfully it’ll still be a break since i won’t be home even if i have to work a little next week. This one being delicious makes me want to pull another one of my bellocq teas out to try…maybe hide this one again to save it haha
mmmm pulled this one out today since i’d like a few more straight teas to be opened in my cupboard. Lots of flavoured but not as many straight teas. Also, i had forgotten i had this keemun and might as well compare it someday soon against the one i just picked up from genuine tea (just not today). This is a fabulous tea. Not sure it warrants the price, but man, so delicious this morning. Malty, cocoa, caramel, sweet but in a creamy sort of way…. noms. just yums.
GCTTB5 backlog:
I couldn’t tell whether this was a green or an oolong, because it was rolled up into tiny dark green nuggets like an oolong, but had a rich, nutty taste that reminded me somewhat of a gunpowder green. This was worth it to try, but it didn’t really wow me, as there was a vegetal undertone to it that I wasn’t a fan of.Of all the amazing teas that Sil sent me – this was the one I was most worried about.
There are pieces of pine tree in here. The leaf looks like it’s been picked up off the forest floor. Now I’m sure this would excite some people, but it kind of scared me.
The first cup, I under leafed and under steeped – I was afraid….
That cup was really mild and didn’t really taste like much more than black tea – ok so far so good – not as scary as I had feared.
The second cup I steeped longer and with more leaf. This is a little piney and a little fruity. There is hints of woody and smoke. It’s like being out in the woods.
While I can appreciate how balanced and interesting this is – these flavors are not really to my liking. Not nearly as bad as I had feared, but this still isn’t really to my tastes.
Thanks Sil for this interesting experience – I would never have chosen this to myself and would not have tried it if you hadn’t sent it to me. :))
haha yay for getting out of our comfort zones :) there will be more from Bellocq that i’ll send you as i actually open them
I will try almost anything – I’ve been surprised before – that tea you thought you would hate but didn’t. That’s the amazing thing about sharing – never know what hidden gems you will find. :)
drink drink drink. love work from home days because man, i need a little relaxation in my days. Long weekend coming up so i just need to get through today. Started the morning off with a couple from bellocq since i’ve got a bunch of teas to add to my cupboard from VariaTEA :) Still enjoying this one, though there’s that underlying oolngy note heh
