A bit too sour for my tastes, but it was useful when I had a cold and I just kept drinking cup after cup. Although, I probably won’t buy it again.

drank Chamomile Mango by Bigelow
24 tasting notes

Oh, how I wanted to like this tea. Chamomile tea is never one of my favorites due to its smell, so when I opened up a teabag of this, the strong mango smell was reassuring. However, while the smell is mostly mango, this tea’s taste is a mix of the two. If fruity tea and chamomile tea are your favorites, you’re in luck, but if not, avoid this.

If you don’t like mint tea, you shouldn’t be here – but if you do, you’ll probably like Bigelow’s Plantation Mint. Big minty scent (you can smell the mint even before you open the box that the individually-wrapped tea bags come in), but the minty flavour doesn’t overwhelm. A characteristically well-done Bigelow blend.

drank Ginger Snappish by Bigelow
79 tasting notes

When i first saw this I thought, ginger and lemon……ok strange. However the tea is a delicious mix. Kinda reminds me of those ricolla herb and lemon cough drops. Very lemony with a slight herbal quality too it. Personally would have preferred more ginger. But overall not a bad tea.

Started the day here, tradition, history, culture, and a near perfect mix of spices.
I have loved this tea for years…

Constant Comment was a staple in my house growing up – and now in mine! :)

teawing

It was in mine too, but like certain recipes and foods, it only appeared during the holidays and winter months. Needless to say, it is always around now, sometimes even iced!

This surprised me by being pretty good. It had a nice green tea/mint flavor, and 2 minutes of brewing was just right for me. It was a nice switch from the usual herbal mint tea, and the mint flavor was pleasant without being too overpowering.

drank Perfect Peach by Bigelow

This is a nice, mellow peach herbal tea. I like that it doesn’t have any added spice flavors, and it’s definitely at its best with a bit of honey to liven up the peachiness. Very soothing in the evening.

drank Mint Medley by Bigelow
35 tasting notes

This is a very gentle mint tea – a nice combo of peppermint and spearmint. It’s my go-to when I have a tummy ache, and it’s nice in the evening when I want something with a fresh taste, but that isn’t too invigoratingly minty.

I didn’t notice that it had hibiscus until after I read the box recently – I don’t notice it much in the taste. I usually add a small amount of honey to it.

My tummy and I are still at odds, and I needed some caffeine, so I went with this tea.

I drank it hot and I steeped it for 5 minutes – it says 1-2 minutes on the box, but that’s always too weak for me. I added a few drops of honey (although it’s just fine without too). The refreshing spearmint/black tea taste is helping me perk back up a bit. :)

This tea is a nice mint tea. I like that it is spearmint, instead of peppermint – it’s a nice change! I too, love to sniff the bag/packet – this tea smells fantastic! It’s good for when I want mint tea with some caffeine.

While this tea is good hot, it is EXCELLENT iced. I follow the directions on the box to make it as iced tea (pour 1 cup of boiling water over 6 bags, steep 10 minutes, add to pitcher with 3 additional cups cold water). I’m not a big iced tea fan, but this makes minty refreshing iced tea that doesn’t need to be sweetened, thanks to the natural sweetness of the mint. Good stuff!

Hey thanks for the review…did you know that Rachel Ray just rated this the best tea in the black tea/herb category?

Thanks for the review.

Glad to hear it – it’s definitely a good one in my book, and very popular in my house – my boyfriend drinks about a gallon of it iced a week! :D

drank Apple Cider by Bigelow

Ooh, I really like this one. It’s more appley than spicy, but in a good way. It tastes like real apple cider. If I had more, I would definitely let it steep longer, however. It’s good like this, but I bet it would be amazing at six minutes. There is no odd “herbal” aftertaste to this, so don’t let the name fool you. Mmm.

drank Vanilla Caramel by Bigelow

Yum! The caramel flavor is strong and reminds me of the really buttery taste of caramel corn. It is almost a butterscotch type taste, but not quite (I normally hate butterscotch). The vanilla flavor isn’t overly strong. This tea is great when I’m feeling really lazy and just want something warm and comforting. I don’t think it’s possible to screw this tea up, I’ve oversteeped it many times and it has still tasted fine. Prepared with almond milk and stevia.

You know what? I really like this tea. It’s sweet, it’s yummy, it’s tea. Goes a little bitter sometimes, but I find it really sweet otherwise. Nothing leaps out at me though…

I’ve been thinking very seriously about my changing tea tastes recently and realized that I am ready to enjoy plain black teas. I have none, so now I need to buy tea (oh, what a chore!) to test them out. I think I don’t have the energy to go through the hassle of shipping, so I’ll be sticking local on this quest…likely to hurt my chances, but more convenient. David’s Tea has a couple I will try, and I am hoping that Sawadee or The Tea Brewery will have some good ones. I have no idea what I’m looking for, but it should be a good adventure. Maybe I will even become brave enough to try Lapsang!

KeenTeaThyme

Careful on the Lapsang! ;) But enjoy the adventure into to the Land of Black Teas. I still really enjoy Irish Breakfast and English Breakfast teas, especially when I need a wake-up call akin to a slap in the face. lol

Michelle Butler Hallett

DavidsTea has some lovely dependable black teas, including their Organic Breakfast, Lover’s Leap (a Ceylon), and WIld Black Yunnan.

Uniquity

I was interested in most of them…Though I am discouraged by the cost of them, compared to some of their other teas/prices I’ve seen elsewhere. I’m considering an Upton order, but $9.20 shipping to Canada is pretty steep (to me, at least) especially for teas I haven’t tried. Looking forward to trying out DT black teas though! : )

Michelle Butler Hallett

I find Yunnans and Keemuns re-steep well for black teas. Assams, not so much.

Wayne

I’ve been going through the DavidsTea black teas lately and I find personally my favourites are in the following order:
Black Needles (if you can your hands on some of this, do it NOW, it’s worth every penny :)
Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling
Himalayan Traveller’s Tea (Organic)
David’s Organic Breakfast
Keemun
Assam Banaspaty
Organic Lapsang Souchong Star (like KiTT said, be careful.. or do what I did, go out on a limb and buy a whole tin so you can develop a full appreciation for it.. I’m still working on that..)

Now the problem with that list is that most of these, including my top 3, have been discontinued, BUT the company still has some in stock, and your local store might, too. What I did was I emailed the company about Black Needles and they said they could have some sent to my local store for me to pick up! I got 100g which was sent in a bag and they also gave me a free tin at the store. Best. Tea. Purchase. EVAR! :)

Uniquity

I really wanted to try the DT Keemun, but both the stores in my area sent their stock back to the warehouse and it’s not available online anymore, so I guess I’m outta luck on that one. : ( I’ll have to give the rest of them a go. At least the organic breakfast has some keemun in it.

Michelle Butler Hallett

Discon Keemun? Wow. I hope they bring in another one. A good Keemun is very good stuff.

Wayne

Indeed, the Organic Breakfast reminds me a LOT of the DT Keemun – which I still have some of.. I’ve never tried a swap before but I may be willing if you’re interested, Uniquity. :)

Uniquity

I went in over the weekend – Noticed that all of the cheaper (and highest rated!) black teas have been discontinued in store, and several new (much more expensive) ones have been introduced. I’ve noticed this with a number of their teas lately, actually. After the salmonella incident, the $5 for 50 g peppermint amour disappeared, and now they just stock the $6.50 for 50 g spearmint. Not a trend I am impressed with at all. [/Rant about corporate entities taking us for a ride]

@Wayne – Thanks for the offer, but I’ve set up a swap with SimplyJenW to try out a few new black teas and I don’t want to get too bogged down. Trying to show restraint…though that rarely goes well! I’m trying to remember if the Organic Breakfast was one of the ones that got cut… Maybe I’ll need to take another look ’round the store. : )

Wayne

No, the Organic Breakfast is still part of their “permanent collection” as far as I know.

Slightly oversteeped and very cold – Not so much time for tea in the new position as one might have hoped. A nice stand by, and easing the pain in my throat slightly. Being ill stinks.

Continuing on my roll of black teas. I find myself wondering why I rate “plain” or pure teas so low? (Though I suppose my only plain teas tend to be bagged, lol) Only the flavoured teas get in the 90s for me. I think it’s unfair of me to rate additives (in flavouring, content, etc) more generously than pure tea. I know that it’s my general preference for flavoured teas and tisanes, but it still seems harsh. Ah well.

I’ve sourced my new travel mug – seems nearly identical to the old only with a five year warranty. Gonna pick one up for me and one for the beau tonight and we are keeping the receipts for warranty this time!

Anyway, this tea is same as always. I actually find it quite sweet already, so I rarely add anything to it anymore and today is no exception. Nice nice nice.

It’s really interesting to be so aware of one’s tastes changing. As I drink more and more tea I find myself rarely (if ever) turning to any additions. No honey, no milk, nothing. I also find myself turning more to teas I didn’t previously like, largely unvlafoured blacks, or teas with little flavouring. I think it is a counter to all the berry flavoured teas I so regularly consume. Either way, I turned to this tea largely because nothing else in my tea drawer was appealing to me. I really do need to get a nice bagged chai, I think. The PC one is so-so, but I want a richer one. The thinness of it is extremely confusing. Anyway, A nice cuppa this with no additions was the thing I wanted. Satisfying, though still plan. But hey, that’s what it’s for! : )

I don’t know if this happens to other people but I just really wanted a tea with some cream in it. That means a boring standard black, in my world. I’m tempted to put in some sugar too, not because I need it but because my father always drinks his tea with milk and sugar and it reminds me of childhood. Anyway, this is what I wanted, so huzzah!

Yes, that happens to me all the time! I love an Indian black tea with milk and sugar as a “comfort food” of sorts! And with toast – oh man I’m five years old again!

I only drink this tea at work – and only then because it’s what work provides. However, it’s a decent enough tea, I have no complaints. Sweeter than many others, has taught me to kick my inherited sugar habit, though I still use cream in it occasionally. I like it far more than Tetley (our previously stocked generic tea)

This is my wife’s favorite bedtime tea. For bagged teas, this is probably my favorite bedtime tea as well. It is naturally sweet and even tastes good cold when I finish a cup in the morning.
