Well… the leaves of this tea are no longer green. I assume their brown colour means they’ve oxidized, but this is hardly surprising. Thankfully, although this does mean that the base tea is far from what it used to be, the sweet, creamy flavours are still very present and very delicious. I have quite a bit of this tea; hopefully all the bags are at least this tasty. I’ll probably leave a packet of this in my sipdown basket to drink a bit more frequently.
(Also, in case it wasn’t obvious, I’m trying to work my way through my Butiki stash to check on things and hopefully manage a few sipdowns. Unfortunately, they are my worst-packaged teas, second only to swap samples, so I’m a little worried about what I may find, though so far I feel I’ve been quite lucky!)
Oh gosh, I really have to revisit my Butiki’s.. especially the greens. I stored them well… so hopefully they’re fine.
Oh good, you made me look it up. haha. I’m going to cry now… it looks like the closure announcement was around October 2014.. so it will be five years this year. WHOA. That is almost as long as they were open (six years). I REALLY need to revisit these teas.
Actually it looks like I received my final order in Feb 2015 so I guess they had a few months after the announcement.
Indulged in favourites last night, this tea included. And it was good. Although I’ll admit that I didn’t find it had the eggnogginess that I was expecting from the previous batch…. however, drinking the resteep today, I have to conclude that my taste buds were a bit wonky, because it’s even better than yesterday. Also forgot that the taste greatly improves once it’s cooled. I do kind of wish this had the nutmeg in it though. I haven’t had the chance to try my Spiced Nog quite yet, but am thinking I may like it even more…. yikes. The rating scale doesn’t go beyond 100, Stacy!
Preparation
Sipdown! 987. Finished off the last of my older bag of this tonight. So good. This is how a flavoured green should be – full of spot-on flavour (ok, it’s not eggnog, it’s creamy deliciousness, close enough for me), no astringency, and a delicious base tea that complements the flavourings. Perfection.
Apparently I had more than a serving’s worth left from my last bag! Excellent! So one more cup before a sipdown and the Final Two Ounces. This is as good as always, so creamy and sweet and glorious.
Delicious, delicious eggnog tea. Haven’t had this in a while, but it was easily available and I was craving it, therefore I made a cup of it tonight to drink while watching the last two episodes of Once Upon a Time.
Preparation
I’m so excited to try this again. I remember last time I had it, my palate was so unrefined that I tasted hot water until I added sugar. I’m going to get this again, and see the difference. :) (I drank the base tea in between then and now and I could definitely taste it no problem)
I sadly only had a sample of this tea. I want a full order but I must drink down some of my stash first :-/
Stephanie – I’ve been hoarding mine too… it has probably been months!
Chizakura – Yep, I’ve had that same sort of change happen to me. I remember thinking that teas were pretty watery, but now that I’m less used to juice (it’s actually a bit overwhelmingly sweet now sometimes!) I can pick up tea flavours much better, and enjoy teas I once thought were not very good.
CheshireEyes – Oh, I hear you. Do I ever. It will be so much more of a reward if you wait!
heh keep in mind it’s out of stock atm…i think stacy maybe hasn’t updated the website? t says to check back May 14th…
I really wanted this one, but it was out of stock when we did the order. Oh well. Next time (because there will totally be a next time!).
Decided to be indulgent tonight, so made up eggnog tea. Delish, as always. Craving the second infusion like crazy right now… enough that I may just go down and make it. I’m nearly out of this one (again), but I think I’ll hold off restocking to give some other teas (e.g. Cantaloupe & Cream) a chance to be sipped down. This one always wins over CC for me, haha.
Preparation
Felt like a treat this morning, so brewed this one up. Since I’ve just had a tea with strong vanilla flavouring, it’s not as tasty as usual, but I’m getting the flavour of the green base, which is still quite nice. This is really a tea to enjoy by itself to maximize flavour.
Preparation
Whoops! I have not been very good about logging teas lately! This is a backlog from Wednesday (actually… I think all four teas I missed are from Wednesday…. I guess the boy is a bit of a distraction!)
Anyhow, made myself a giant mug of this to nearly finish it off in anticipation of the next 0.5 ounce headed my way shortly! I haven’t sipped down too many Butiki teas (Gui Fei and Strawberry Oolong are it, I think), but this one will be added to the list shortly! (Of course, I’ve restocked all three of those, so net progress is still zero, hahaha).
Uh, and as usual, this was delicious, as was the resteep. I lost track of what happened to the leaves after that, but usually I only do 2 or 3 anyhow.
Preparation
Just chugged a cool glass of deliciousness. Definitely going to regret this when I wake up at 4am and have to pee…
(it will be worth it).
Preparation
The worst part about late night tea pees, in contrast to first-thing-in-the-morning pees, is that you know just ignoring it and going back to sleep is not going to work, because you’re probably still processing more liquid so it is just going to get worse, whereas in the morning, your bladder isn’t too likely to get much fuller while lying there unless you drank tea while asleep (ok, or let tea cool by your bed and drank it in the morning because you were thirsty….)
Made a delicious cup of this for my mom tonight. I think she may have finished the whole thing, so I’ll only get the second infusion, but that’s ok. She likes it, but definitely doesn’t think it tastes like eggnog (which is fine!). Just tasty and creamy. I think I’ll get away without leaving the rest of it here though, thankfully! She just really wants that Strawberry Oolong, so I’ll squirrel away a cup for myself, and leave the rest here…
Preparation
:) I’m excited – I bought her a nice infuser and tea timer/thermometer from DavidsTea for Christmas, too!
Mmmmmhhhhh delicious. I think I underleafed a bit today (forgot it was 2 tsp/8 oz, so only used a bit over a tbsp for 2 cups) but it was still pretty tasty. The re-steep did suffer a bit though, being a touch weak.
Preparation
Still have a sample of this to try…I think I’ll be saving it for Christmas :-) But I admit your reviews of it make it hard for me to resist that long!
this just sounds so. good. i mean just the name alone is enticing, but when you go and give it 100 wowsa. >>> added to shopping list
Ahhh, round 2 of this tea does not disappoint. Cake batter, eggnog, best vanilla tea ever… either way, it tastes like it’s absolutely loaded with calories, yet not a heavy tea… so perfect. The creamy green base really works SO well here. You may notice that I’ve now awarded this tea the coveted 100 points. A perfect score. Yes, it’s that good.
I’ve gotta try it with some rock sugar eventually, but I’m down to having 8 cups’ worth left (and I have to save some to let my mom try at Christmas!) I’ve gotta say – there are not many teas that I would be reluctant to sample out to people, but this tea is one of them! I’m dying to give my roomie a sample of it, and I feel super Scroogey because I want it all to myself…. bad bad selfish girl…
Preparation
Not that it needs sugar but I do recommending trying it with some rock sugar. Its really desserty with a little sugar. Not something I go for every time I make it but occasionally it’s really perfect for my sweet tooth mood.
OH man oh man oh man. This is delicious. It smells rich and creamy and like vanilla. It tastes…. rich and creamy and like vanilla. Eggy vanilla (you know what I mean, yes?). The spices, however, are not making themselves known to me as much as I would have expected.
I was originally going to say that I can’t taste the base tea, but as I’m sitting here, I am definitely tasting it coming through all creamy and vegetal and delicious. I actually ordered a bag of this base as well, so I can have some fun identifying flavours later.
Anyways…. this is very, very good. I’m not detecting too much spicing, which tempts me to put in a dash of nutmeg and itty bitty pinch of cinnamon (or whatever the heck spices are in eggnog) next time I brew it, but this is by far the best vanilla tea I’ve tried. The choice of base is absolutely perfect.
Ah… that went down quickly. I guess that means it’s bedtime. Good thing, eyes only half open while writing tasting note….
ETA: The re-steep is amazingly delicious as well, just a bit less intense. I can hardly wait to try the base tea by itself (but not tonight: too tired!)
Preparation
Actually, I had planned to spice it up a bunch but after tasting it this way, I just couldn’t do it. The base definitely adds to the buttery-ness.
Sil – I think you will love this whether or not you hate eggnog. I can definitely get the eggnog reference, but you could definitely also take this as a vanilla custard tea, or somesuch. And it’s blended amazingly. The base was a perfect choice.
Also, yeah. I will likely buy an ounce or two or this plus all the other new holiday teas once they are out…. siiiiigh! Probably a bit more of the Maple Pecan Oolong as well…
Also Stacy – I re-read your tasting note and noticed that you had mentioned opting not to super spice it all up! So I retract my comment about being disappointed about the lack of spicing (it really is quite fabulous as is) and instead will endeavour to make it a bit more eggnoggy with spicing myself, just out of curiousity’s sake. It would be a shame to cover the delicious creaminess though.
Sounds great. I’ve never tried any Butiki teas but it seems I’ll have to correct that in the new year!
Also Kittena – I’ll be placing an order to pick up at the very least, this and the plum pudding one stacy’s working on. We should coordinate later :)
Totally agree! No way I can hit $75 on my own again for a while, but I’m going to want a bunch of the new stuff. Since we have to meet up in January due to Kally Teas & Verdant anyways, we may as well place joint orders until then, haha.
i rarely hit 75 – i just pay for the shipping since it’s damn reasonable from stacy compared to other companies coughthepersimmontreecough
Update: the Chocolate Rocket (mate) from a couple posts ago is definitely not enough to combat the early afternoon intense desire to sleep, because I’m falling asleep writing tasting notes. If only I had put the baby down in her bassinet so she’d be sleeping safely and I could nap too, but no, she’s in a recalled lounger device that’s unsafe for unsupervised sleep and she has a blanket.
Parenting/sleep woes aside, so glad I still have some of this. Maybe 3-4 cups left now? It really hasn’t lost much flavour, despite being one of the packets of tea I found in a very random and unexpected place (i.e. not with my other teas). Still a raisiny, juicy cup of deliciousness. (Speaking of teas in random places, in the last week or so I’ve found two boxes of teas that contained a bunch of teas from companies that I usually have sorted out – i.e. Butiki, 52teas, DavidsTea, Teavivre, Verdant. They were shelved with teas, but I thought the boxes mostly contained samples – I was wrong. Both good and bad news, I think, but I’ve found a few things that I hadn’t realized were missing, ha!
Haven’t had this in eons, and can’t even remember when I drank the cup I’m theoretically writing about. I’m super sad to say, though, that I have not found a replacement for it as I had hoped. One of my TTC teas, Sun Moon Lake Assam (I believe), is similar, but just isn’t the same. I’m dreading running out of this gem :(
Sipdown! … Of one baggie of this. Which essentially means nothing.
Anyhow, it was amazing as usual. I need to step up my game to find a replacement. Nothing has even come close. :’(
