Another sample to thank *Stacy*for. I have been tempted to drink this one at night but I managed to remember about it this morning. Last night I went to bingo with my aunty Ann which is a regular thing on a Monday night and we were chatting and having a couple of drinks whilst playing. We were far from the mark and had no chance of winning until we got to a special Christmas game, one by one my aunty marked off the numbers and she was saying she would never win it but she did. My wonderful aunty won £185 (around $300)! I had such a busy night that I need something to perk me up this morning.
Then comes this tea which smells of sweet lemongrass and is golden brown in colour. The lemongrass tastes creamy and sweet but also light (the last thing I want in the morning is something stodgy). The guayusa is not very noticeable and is suitable for those of us who are not too keen on the taste. A few sips is all it takes to notice the rocket fuelled energy that comes with guayusa and already I feel a little perked up. It reminds me a little of Gooey Butter Cake – 52 Teas as both are creamy and lemony.
I’m glad I got to try this tea but I don’t think I would buy it but only because I prefer the Cider Guayusa – Butiki Teas for the morning. The energy has kicked in now so I’m off to play Sims 3 :)
Preparation
Bumping the rating on this one since it’s growing on me :) It’s in my sipdown pile for the week and I may just need to pick up a bit more once it’s all gone. Even cold the flavours are nicely balanced. Not a hueg fan of chamomile blends, but since it’s nice to have at least one in the house, this will be my go too since it’s the best one i’ve found so far!
Backlog I had this the other night to try and help me get to sleep. Work’s been a little crazy these days and I discovered that this tea makes me sleeeepy! I’m ok with that as it’s a really tasty tea that is fantastic. Nice to have a great cup of tea before drifting off to bed.
this was one of those random purchases from Stacy where I was trying to do something with the dollar value and needed another tea to balance things out. Since i have a ton of teas with lots of caffeine i picked this one for when i have people over who don’t want any. This is pretty nice. It’s nothing with a WOW factor but then i wasn’t expecting that. It’s a nice, calming evening tea for relaxing with. If you like chamomile tea – this is a nicer version that your generic type brand from most places :)
Haha, when I’m making an order where dollar amounts matter, I chuck everything I want into a big pile and rearrange it until it fits the way I want it. I did have to add a couple things this time (but I’m not unhappy that Taiwanese Assam made it in there!)
I agree, I’m just not a big herbal person and I doubt I will ever be wowed by one. This is my favorite of the herbal blends but probably only something I drink once a year.
Kittenna-I think you will be happy with the Premium Taiwanese Assam. Its so good. That’s one of the first teas I recommend.
Pulled this one out of the cupboard today – figured it’s not the weekend but i can still have some puerh today. Did 3 steeps of this one today but that’s about all i want of this one for now. It’s nice o revisit some of these – this one has got a bold flavour profile that’s fairly unique to other things in my cupboard. Still lots left though!
I had this tonight when i finally got home. I’m getting a little cranky from these 12+ hr days with no lunch and too much talking, not enough time to do work sort of times. What i HAVE discovered is that it’s a good thing i wear glasses – it hides how tired i am from ppl…so only i have to see that in the mirror when i’m getting ready in the morning lol I’ve also discovered that have fun alcoholic drinks as soon as i get in the door + a nice black cup of tea…best relaxing time ever!
Sooo tonight it was this tea + a pineapple, mango, alcoholic drink with dinner. It was a great time, and once again i was reminded that i really do enjoy this puerh quite a bit, as long as i spend more than 1 cup with it. this is one of those rare instances where i generally prefer the second steeping of this. It’s just a little less intense, because these days, i’ve got all the intensity i need at work lol
Totally forgot to log this last night. I had some with dinner and it was fantastic. That perfect contrast to the amazing steak my other half made with a wine sauce and roasted potatoes and beans. We opted for bike ride Monday instead of Sunday given the holiday so yesterday was liquor store and food store lol so that today we can go for a long ride and enjoy 4-6 hours of outdoors….and have lunch while doing it! Anyway this tea? Love it…. More to write later but I’m glad I picked up a little more again.
Sipdown!
I really enjoyed this yesterday so i opted to drink it throughout the morning as my morning tea today since i get to work from home today and can pop up to resteep anytime i want! This plus a mini cinnamon roll = breakfast of champions! lol Ok maybe not, but i have one last day to enjoy myself with the holiday excuse before it’s back to eating healthy and properly again. :)
I’d forgotten how delicious this one is. It’s not the kind of tea i’d drink every day but once a week or something like that would be awesome. It’s like a flavourful coffee…only not. My favourite part of this one is how teh flavours change through the steepings. I will need to pick up a bit more of this once i get through my little bag.
Bumped the rating up on this one because it is making me happy today! Maybe it’s because I’m still sick but I’m getting a lot more out of it today. Only on my first steeping but man it’s tasty and delicious and full of love. Yeaaaa……ok so maybe I’m a bit loopy today. My other half is off and we’ve gotten to spend a very low key morning/afternoon together. :)
So i think I’ve had maybe one puerh to date and it wasn’t that impressive. I ordered this one on a whim to give it a try and see if i could get into it or if it was a type of tea to cross off my list.
The aroma off this tea while steeping is one i can’t quite place. If my other half was here tonight i’m sure he could tell me but I can’t figure it out. It’s an aroma that left me a bit worried as to the taste. I should know by now that Stacy hasn’t steered me wrong yet- even if i don’t LOVE it, i won’t hate it.
I’m going to have to have more of this… There’s a bit of fruitiness but it’s almost like the taste of the texture prunes have. yeah this doesn’t taste like prunes..but like dried prune’s textures…when they’re all mushy in your mouth. It’s…really good but it’s different. there will be more tastings to come, perhaps on the weekend when i can give this it’s full attention. :)
I wouldn’t count this puerh as a puerh experience. It doesn’t taste like any other puerhs I’ve tasted. The main note I get from this is roasted chestnuts but others have said acorn which I think might be a better description, not that I’ve tasted acorn.
what you don’t go licking squirrel food? :P
This is still my baby step in the world of pureh heh. Kinda like oolongs… gotta take it slow…eaaaaase into things
Thank you so much Azzrian for sharing this blend with me.
I really enjoy it, I find the green tea base very subtle without any astringency nor bitterness even if I over-steeped it a little.
This is my second Butiki teas only and I am really impressed with this brand.
The pistachio flavour is the leading role – it is clearly creamy but cannot really say I get an iced cream flavour, much more a creamy pistachio (which is perfect to me)
As my mug is cooling, the flavours become more interesting : the pistachio is more & more present and the creamy note totally invades the aftertaste. I imagine it could be a very nice iced tea as well.
I really loved it – thanks again Azzrian
Preparation
Ysaurella – butiki has wonderful flavoured teas! Stacy has some serious magic in the way that she blends things. If you like grapefruit…try her grapefruit dragon well.
All of that being said, she also has some mighty fine unflavoured teas too!
Azzrian was so generous to me …she sent me several Butiki teas to taste these fantastic blends. Now I feel I won’t be long to place order !
If there are more you want to try that I have in my cupboard let me know in January! I’m happy to send among a few more for you to try!
If you like black straight teas….try her premium Taiwanese Assam. Soooo good.
And you also sent me SO many WONDERFUL teas!!! Thank you so much I have enjoyed many – now that I can make tasting notes I am too sick to drink tea :( Hope to make some notes very soon!
Ooh looking forward to see the reviews from both of you :)
Tis also makes me want to try this tea again….as luck would have it, I do have a bag of it haha
Backlog:
Another tea from the W-O-D.
I am so glad that I decided to order this tea. It is so good. I often mentioned in my grapefruit green tea tasting notes that I was on a quest to find the right grapefruit green to rival my experience at Tohono Chul Park in Tucson, I had actually found that ACTUAL tea but somehow it just didn’t taste the same when I got it home. Maybe it’s the water temperature, maybe it’s the water itself … or the amount of leaf they used in the teapot … Who knows? All I know is that somehow, that grapefruit green tasted amazing at Tohono Chul Park but only tasted good, even really good, but not amazing when I brewed it at home.
A couple of months ago, I found a grapefruit tea that finally satisfied me enough to declare the search for the grapefruit green over, but, as I tasted this tea, I realized that it may have been premature to declare the search over … or at least, that I had found another grapefruit tea that was just as good if not BETTER than the grapefruit green – and yes, I think that this one IS better than the grapefruit green – at Tohono Chul Park.
The grapefruit flavor is so true to the fruit, but it has a sweeter flavor. There is definitely the tangy bitterness from the grapefruit too. After I sip this tea, the flavor that is left, tingling in my mouth in the aftertaste, is similar to the sensation I’d experience if I were to have taken a bite of real grapefruit. Amazing!
The Dragon Well works great with the flavor of the grapefruit, it imparts a slight sweetness and vegetative tone that works quite harmoniously with the flavor. Very enjoyable, this is one I’m really glad that I have in my stash now.
i am SOOO glad you enjoyed this! If Helena gets GMS, this might just be my tea after harassing stacy about it for months. It’s a good thing she’s forgiving! I really think this captures grapefruit pretty damn fantastically!
So glad you are enjoying this tea!
Sil-This is definitely your tea. Hahaha. I pushed it to the top of the list after your friendly reminders. :)
Edit: SIPDOWN! lol since the rest is going to kittenna haha
YAY for organizing my tea cupboard this weekend. I’ve managed to pull out all the tea that’s nearly at the end of their package so that I can focus on drinking those over the next two weeks as well as trying out a few of the teas in my cupboard that i haven’t yet tried.
This tea falls into the first category – there’s only about enough for another cup of this (well one of MY cups…so that’s like 2). So I had some tonight to get that down a bit more. I’ll likely reorder this at a later date from Stacy as it’s a pretty enjoyable blueberry tea and it has decent re-steeps as well which is always nice.
I should have stolen some of this one, too! I received a sample from Stacy at one point but it was terrible, I think it must have gotten a bit mashed up at some point, and perhaps I steeped it incorrectly. Boo-urns.
Such a delicious tea. I’m really happy that I picked this one up on a whim a while ago. The way that the blueberry runs through the tea very subtly is wonderful. There’s a richness to the tea that i quite enjoy without sweetner. Adding a bit of sweetner merely enhances the flavour of the blueberries and makes them pop just slightly before being embraced once more by the purple tea.
So because this was so delicious hot, I wanted to try this cold. Well guess what folks? This is super yummy cold too! I added a bit of sweetner to this and BOOM! blueberry delicious. While i think currently, i prefer this hot, i am so looking forward to having this cold in the heat of summer. That tangy refreshing blueberry goodness. mmmmm
Preparation
mmmmmmmmm! Another winner from Stacy! I am totally digging this today as well. I’m a little sad that I don’t have any sweetner here at work as I think that this would be that much better with just a hint of sweet added. This is not a sweet tea…it’s blueberry…that kind of blueberry that is both sweet and sour. I am really digging this as a blueberry tea.
Yay, glad you like it! That one is made up of either 12% or 15% (can’t quite remember which one it was) of crushed freeze-dried blueberries. I think it tastes like blueberry muffins with a touch of sweetener.
VariaTEA reminded me that i had just enough of this left in my cupboard for a nice cup of tea today with it. So i pulled it out and drank it up! noms. Thank you Keychange for giving me more of this to tie me over until i place another butiki order :)
after my failure with irish cream cheesecake, i pulled this one out to have a cup of. Keychange was awesome enough to send this my way which was great since i was out! I still really enjoy this cup of tea. It was one of the first taiwanese teas that i had and it remains one that i love. I didn’t manage to get through ALL my butiki teas today, but it was fun revisiting as many as i could to try them all out again. It also brings me one step closer to a few sipdowns, which means i can place another order soon! haha Lemon macaron and hello sweetie..you will be mine!
Woohoo! Sipdown while on a vacation lol I’m hoping for at least one more since I maya have purchased two tins of tears atthe grocery store since we don’t have republic of Tea at home. That being said, I’m sad to see this one go but I know there’s another order in store soon so not to worry. I have the house to myself atthe moment. My parents are off to a tennis lesson and Ian is still asleep. So I’m watching the golfers on the course and enjoying the sun.
congrats to your Auntie !
That’s great, congrats to your aunt!
