BIRTHDAY TEA MODE!

It’s my birthday! My Husband gave me one of those papasan chairs, pie bird among other things! Also doing jiu jitsu twice today, gah!!! /dies

I had Butiki Tea’s Grapefruit Dragon for breakfast – very delicious, grapefruity tingle BUT did not go well with my breakfast of cheese jalapeno bagel, cream cheese and lox (smoked salmon), so I had to drink my tea and enjoy my tea after I finished my bagel.

Actually, what tea would go with bagel and lox? I guess a straight green? Oh well – it was all very tasty!

With my last Butiki order, I had to try this tea, sounds delicious! I’ve had onle 1 grapefruit tea (officially) which I enjoy despite it being rooibos (ESP brand passionfruit/grapefruit).

DRY: tarty grapefruit! Big chunky green tea leaves with a pretty spattering of red/pink.
STEEPED: Pale yellow, smells like pink grapefruit.

TASTE: Crisp grapefruit, and I’m talking real grapefruit! Juicy! All that grapefruit taste over a background of mellow green tea. I would almost call the after taste tart, but more of a tingly citrus sensation that tickles my tongue and throat. What kind of magic is this?!?! I was too lazy to try this sweetened.

COMMENTS: Am I weird imagining theres a happy yellow and pink dragon tickling my throat with its back spines while I drink this tea?

I’m thinking iced tea with Grapefruit Dragon. Seriously that would be amazing! However, not sure if the tickle throat effects stays iced, I’m finishing up my cup which as cooled and it is not as tingly. Would be killer with a little sweetener and slices of grapefruit!

On another note, SHAWL OF DOOM is FINISHED! I was blogging about it, why my grapefruit dragon got cold, boo!

Great work on the shawl of doom. That looks awesome!

Haha, I love the idea of imagining a little yellow and pink dragon tickling my throat while drinking this. :)

Thank you Stacy for a sample of this lovely tea. :)

I really admire the aesthetics of these hand tied stars, they are quite beautiful.

I steeped the tea for around 5 minutes or maybe more, at 180f. The flavor of this tea is very mild and light, reminds me a bit of artichoke and has a slight sweetness in the finish. Someone mentioned brothy and I agree with that sentiment. It’s kind of nice for this warm sunny day. I guess when it comes to green teas I am more a fan of the japanese kind, but I’m glad I got to try this. Rating reflects my own personal preference…

Weird, I had a tasting note and then it disappeared. Anyway, I usually love flavored guayusas from Butiki Teas, but I just didn’t get the flavor I was supposed to be getting from this tea. I think I’m not the right audience for it…and it’s going to a great new home. :-)

I believe butiki can do no wrong. This tea is juicy and refreshing. Fruity and sweet. My list of teas to purchase is rapidly growing, I almost don’t want to wait for pistachio ice cream any more!

Apricot Guayusa! My first flavored guayusa. This is definitely better than unflavored guayusa. Nice apricot flavor. It’s not bad. I wish I had more to say about it, but it’s a fairly simple cup of tea. There’s not a lot of dimension to guayusa in my opinion. It’s a unique flavor, just not one of my favorites. It is nice every once in a while for a change of pace. Thanks to Kittenna for the chance to try another Butiki creation!

Not my favourite. I definitely recommend you try Good Morning Sunshine and/or Killer’s Vanilla! Or Tangerine Creamsicle. They’re all far, far better IMO!

CHAroma

I have heard a lot of good things about Good Morning Sunshine.

Stacy sent me this lovely sample with my last order of tea and I thought I would try it today I oversteeped it because I was a moron and wasn’t paying attention. It tasted very much like plain popcorn :) maybe I should’ve added marshmallows….

Bonnie

butter too

Autistic Goblin

good point Bonnie! nothing goes better with popcorn than butter :D

Kittenna

Mmm, I adore plain popcorn..

CHAroma

I adore popcorn so dripping in butter that it stains your shirt. True story. Lots of ruined shirts over the years. ;)

What a beautiful tea! I feel like this is something I have never noticed in another tea. It smelled fantastic to! I sniffed the little packet 4 times before I dumped it into my strainer.
It brewed up the colour of honey and smells like sweet, fresh melon. I’m not a melon fan (texture, not taste) so I felt compelled to try this tea. Cantaloupe is sooo good! It’s so fresh! Required no sweetener, no milk. A perfect tea.

I’ve had this yesterday and today, and it’s really quite lovely. It has a strong vegetative note that is somewhere between “grassy” and “smoked spinach,” leaning slightly more toward the grassy tones than the vegetable tones. Yes, that’s right, I said smoked spinach, rather than steamed. Now, I don’t think I can recall ever tasting smoked spinach, but, if you can imagine what spinach might taste like if it were smoked rather than steamed, you’d have what I’m tasting here. The smoked notes are not heavy flavors, but, they do add a compelling flavor to the cup.

There is also bitter tone that sort of reminds me of dandelion greens. I like the way the vegetative notes are balanced between the sweet tones and the bitter tones.

A very enjoyable cup, it leaves the palate feeling very clean and refreshed.

I can’t believe I’m the first to review this. It seems like most people on Steepster go to Butiki for flavored teas, but their straight teas from what I’ve tasted have been great, and this one is no exception.

This is an excellent tie guan yin. I brewed this one gong fu style in my competetion tasting set, 1 minute each steep. First of all, like the description says, it’s an incredibly silky tea. The thing that struck me most, however, was the incredibly refreshing nature of this tea. I felt as if I was sitting outside in the grass on a comfortably warm day, eating a bowl of vanilla bean Haagen-Dazs while the smells of flowers permeated the air and the sound of a running stream trickled in the background.

But enough poetics… This tea is delightfully silky, floral, sweet, creamy, and posesses a fantastic mineral quality with a vanilla bean aftertaste. Wonderful.

Bonnie

I like their straight tea’s the best too!

Butiki Teas

Fantastic description, very poetic. Your review is enticing me to do a gongfu session with this tea before lunch. :)

@ligongsf

man, this is so poetic…I wonder if all Tie Guan Yin from AnXi tastes the same. I have a friend who had me sip some. I was blown away by its fragrance

So I’m not in love with this tea – but I appreciate how others might really enjoy this. That being said, i’m not sure what I expected. This 100% reminds me of almond extract used in baking. So with that regard, the taste/smell is pretty spot :) I think I was looking for a taste that was less sweet. I don’t get the cinnamon that others have tasted – even in the light version. Stil not a bad cup of tea, but just not up to par with the grapefruit and maple pecan :)

Butiki Teas

We are working on another almond tea which you might be a little more interested in. Its going to be just tea and almond. No flowers, cream flavoring, or cinnamon will be added.

Sil

Good to know! I’ll keep my eyes peeled

mmmmm thanks again keychange for putting this back in my cupboard. I’m always happt to have this one around, though as we move into summer, it will be put on the back burner for more summer/spring like teas. Maple is my go to winter/fall flavour :)

Keychange sent this one my way the other day and i’ve been saving it. It was nice to have this back in my cupboard as i thoroughly enjoy this one. I added a splash of maple syrup to this one to give it just a little more of a kick and it was fantastic…brought out even more of the pecan flavouring for a happy cup of tea while watching a few shows and waiting for my other half to get home from work. :)

Kat_Maria

Yummm… I love this one. I bought it kind of on a whim, but I can see it becoming pretty much a staple for me.

TeaLady441

Mmmm.. I’m happy I grabbed some during the last crazy sale.

cough attention…SIPDOWN! 150! oh yeah baby! that’s right! woot woot! However, this will be short lived as i’m fairly certain there’s a package at the post office my other half is picking up for me today haha. But, i did something i didn’t think was possible and managed to get to 150. Now to see if i can get a little closer to 100 before black friday, just for funsies :)

Sad to see this one go, but i know it’ll be back. I am a fan of this delicious offering from Stacy!

Dexter

Congrats – good job – I’m not going to make 150 for Black Friday much less 100 that I wanted. Oh well it’s all good – Love having choices.

Dinosara

Congrats! You can try to catch me haha.

VariaTEA

Congrats!! However, I think as you decrease your stash I am causing mine to grow rapidly. I just bought 4 more today and something tells me I won’t be able to resist ordering from Butiki much longer given how much everyone raves about this tea and Cantaloupe and Cream.

Sil

Dinosara – yeah probably not lol but we can pretend! I do have a long weekend coming up…

MissB

I’m just waiting for my Bukiti order to arrive VariaTEA so that I can send you some next week. I’m excited to try these all, too!

Apparently today was Butiki day..though it wasn’t planned. I had this with dinner tonight and while it was tasty, it didn’t rock my socks like it has before. Still though, happy to drink it and enjoy it.

I had this yesterday because i need to stop hoarding teas that i enjoy. Now that it’s fall, there are a number of teas that i find myself wanting to drink. This is one of them. I did find yesterday myself wishing yesterday that this was more maple and less pecan. Not that i have anything against pecans but i really enjoy the maple flavouring that stacy uses. Overall though, a great cup as usual!

SIPDOWN! Oh yeah baby! 155 and it’s only tuesday! I still have until saturday to see if i can hustle my ass down to 150 hahaha. I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve to help with this so here’s hoping. Of course i’m also contemplating another order too but you know..what the hell haha

love this one, now i just need to decide whether i want to keep it around all year or savour it and bring it back to my cupboard in the fall. decisions, decisions…

Emily M

Woot for sipdowns!

Courtney

Good job – just flying through them!

mmmmm i really do love this tea. It’s maple, it’s pecan, it’s delicious! Very nearly at the bottom of my bag of this..yes it’s just a coincidence that stacy’s having a sale involving one of my fav straight blacks! I have a crazy amount of butiki teas in my house lol. I need to get drinking some of them asap! Anyway this tea? Still one of my happy teas from stacy. It may take a break from my cupboard over the summer but we’ll see. it’s pretty delicious…even as an oolong! :)

Ysaurella

yes this tea is just incredibly good !

Donna A

I remember liking Maple Pecan Oolong. Today, I’m sipping Pumpkin Creme Brulee, another Butiki tea, and don’t have much left. I may have to get some more even with summer coming cause I love it!

afternoon tea! Enjoying this one since i havne’t had it in a bit. I have two packages waiting for me at home but I have no idea if it’s tea hopehopehopehopehopeit’smyordercomingfromstacy or board games since both are on their way. :) Life is good with tea and board games and anyone who says otherwise is not correct haha.

Drinking this tea always makes me wish for a straight up Maple tea from stacy…one of these days i should combine maple pecan and creamy eggnog for creamy eggnog maple tea haha

Emily M

I never thought if combining the two! I think I’m going to be doing an experiment later…. Haha

Sil

it just occured to me now…might pick a few of the pecans out to see how the two blend together. I do love me some creamy eggnog tea! :) (not to mention the maple…)

Emily M

Neat idea! I liked both, and it seems like it’d be interesting!

Oh man…i accidently took this out of my steepster cupbaord because i’d forgotten i horded an extra bag of this when i placed my last order. So happy i found it this afternoon as it was really what i wanted. Good to the last drop! Drank this while trying to figure out my next butiki order…to wait or not…to get ALL the teas i want to try or just some of them lol

Autumn Hearth

Hehe. I picked this up with the Autumn Comfort sampler, since it was on sale and they all sound good! At first I was going to get all the samplers, but that would have brought me too close to my limit without trying many of the ones I had on my shopping list for so long ;)

Fjellrev

Looove this one.

Sil

You picked up some good ones that I saw, at least in my opinion :)

Crowkettle

I got this as my sample but I almost don’t want to drink it. It smells too good!

Sil

crow – it’s a really nice one i think…and i’m not a fan of oolongs really, though this is a dark one. the maple and pecan balance nicely together.

Donna A

I like this one a lot. Stacy does a good job with flavored teas.

Sil

I agree Donna! She’s spoiled me though as there are now some companies that I can’t drink anymore because i expect their flavourings to be more “true to life.”

Finn88

Does she still have this? I think my mouth watered when I read the title…

Sil

Haha yes Finn…this one and many other delicious wonderful teas!

Donna A

Sil, Stacy has LOTS of teas I love. She has a knack for picking great unflavored teas as well as a talent for blending some excellent flavored concoctions. I always plan Butiki into my tea budget.
